Night People!

Danne D:

I always take a tattered flag to the local VFW for them to properly dispose of it.
  7:10pm
Snortley:

From PUBLIC LAW 94 - 344:

The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
  7:10pm
Caryn:

So: flag-burning as protest? Noooo. Flag-burning as garbage disposal? Yeeeah! Totally logical...

Danne D:

Flag Code FAQ: http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/faq.htm
  7:11pm
Danne D:

Here's the actual Flag Code itself:
http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm
  7:12pm
Caryn:

So if you bring just tattered old flags to a protest and then burn them, can you say "I was just disposing of them in accordance with the law"?
  7:13pm
Danne D:

basically everyone violates the Flag Code btw.

From the FAQ I linked to:
"Are flags on T-shirts, ties, etc., really flags?"

Yes. According to the Flag Code, a flag is anything "by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag."

Therefore, a flag includes any representation of it of any substance, with stars and stripes of any number. This would include T-shirts and ties.

The USPS is NOT a branch of the US government
  7:19pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

Neither is the Federal Reserve

Chhhh:

The divisions you're seeing are imposed. The "recession" is a sham; an excuse used to destroy social programs, welfare, healthcare, etc. This is the same in Europe as elsewhere. "Austerity packages" vs bank bailouts. Politics is used as a decoy.

?:

Does anyone think the government should be more proactive about regulating radiation, like in iPhones/smartphones? I'm worried about the possibility of getting brain cancer.

georgie girl:

"An overwhelming majority of the European Parliament has voted for a set of
changes based on 'health concerns associated with electromagnetic fields'".
  7:44pm
Pop:

I thought the Weather Underground or whatever they were called accidentally blew up that building.
  7:49pm
georgie girl:

This is relevant to what you guys were saying about the government not wanting us to live long.
  7:50pm
georgie girl:

Protest radiation!
  7:51pm
Joe:

This guy knows the score!
  7:52pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

A lot of odd things going down these days.
  7:54pm
Frank in New York:

Great point about disagreeing. It doesn't make you stupid.
  7:56pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

We are spent.
  7:56pm
Halalcyon:

You're not critical enough guys. You don't notice how much you've internalized the propaganda around you. Seriously; you're basically acting as a tool of the oligarchy.
  7:56pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Oh and morally bankrupt.
  7:57pm
Caryn:

I don't think conservatives are stupid, but I think there has been a disturbing anti-knowledge bent in conservative circles in recent years, where teachers, scientists and knowledge are the enemy, political opponents are badmouthed by calling them "intellectuals" and mocking the fact that they can speak several languages, etc. Conservatives are not stupid, but pro-stupidity, and that's a problem if you want to have a country that does well in a global competitive environment.
  7:59pm
Mike East:

well put, Caryn.
  8:00pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Usually assassination is the sad outcome from real revolutions.
  8:00pm
Frank in New York:

Maritn Luther King lead a non-violent revolution that worked.
  8:02pm
Gordon:

@Caryn What's happening is actually a class issue; you are being presented by your chosen media with the easily refutable bullshit they pass as the conservative position. There are many well-educated conservatives whose media similarly presents them with bullshit that is meant to represent liberal the agenda. It's all a scam.
