Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi Irwin, hello one and all
  3:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

I say Goddess ATHENA!
  3:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sean in Bristol! Hello good sir, and to all those joining this party today!
  3:03pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Greetings, Irwin, all!
  3:04pm
Mike East:

@Caryn - if you're out there, I loved your last costume suggestion!
  3:05pm
Listening Out There:

..."goddess," "godless"...what's the difference, anywho...
  3:09pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hey Matt,
  3:09pm
Caryn:

Hello all! And thanks, Mike! Can't take all the credit for it. It's a Joss Whedon idea.
  3:13pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Irwin, I am new to your show, love what you are playing
  3:13pm
Alison Porchnik:

Dismiss Minerva at your own risk, Irwin. She has an owl and she's not afraid to use it.
  3:14pm
G:

More scenic than Alexandria, Egypt.
  3:15pm
Hegel:

Wrong daypart. The owl of Minerva flies at dusk, not midafternoon.
  3:17pm
Caryn:

@Hegel: hey, it's dusk somewhere right now. By the time the owl reaches Irwin, it can also be dusk.
  3:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Ricardo! LOT! Caryn!

And hey Mike! Any updates on the birth? :)
  3:19pm
Hegel:

Aha, a philosopher.
  3:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, Go2HELL Robert in Seattle!!!

Who's Robert in Seattle?
  3:20pm
Mike East:

@m_f_s - Luciana Rain East, born 10/21/12 at 12:46pm. Mother and child are healthy. My little girl is perfect. Now I just have to keep the world from screwing her up.
  3:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

Commenter "Robert" I believe is from NJ, so surely he's not the offender?
  3:21pm
Alison Porchnik:

Can my donation be earmarked for the Codger? I want to get him a clean union suit.
  3:21pm
The World:

Good luck widdat. I aint sayin, Im just sayin.
  3:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

CONGRATS to you and family! Beautiful name!

Anyway to blow cigar smoke through the playlist? ;)
  3:21pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Hello!
  3:21pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

@ Mike, congratulations to you and your family
  3:22pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Congrats Mike! Glad to hear that all are doing well.
  3:23pm
Alison Porchnik:

Congrats Mike. Fresh from the spirit world.
  3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@AP: The Codger would only buy a new suit when all the threads come off his old one, and even then it would be an old one at an antique store, so he can still have a suit older than your grandpa.
  3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

YLT is always good. I like this arrangement in particular, it reminds me of "Norwegian Wood".
  3:24pm
Alison Porchnik:

I have a "Slicko" union suit that he can have. With a brand name like Slicko, it's got to be old.
  3:25pm
G:

Whatever kinda suit, it's gotta cover up that unsightly birthday suit.
  3:27pm
Mike East:

Thanks all for your kind words!
  3:30pm
common:

man, i want a marimba!
  3:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@common: Now's a good time to buy one--buy 4 mallets, get the other 2 free!
  3:32pm
Gino Benigni:

toom a toom - Pumpkins. Warm, soft, damp, with seeds inside, so round - ta ta toom
  3:32pm
common:

Ha!
  3:39pm
Parq:

Mike East, way to go. Hope you got your sleep during the pregnancy, because you can forget about it for the next six weeks. Alison P, I'm not sure the Old C would want anything to do with unions.
  3:43pm
Mike East:

@Parq- last night was her first night home. She seems to have her night/day confused. The funny thing is that my wife had been thinking of giving up caffeine for good since she cut it out during the pregnancy. A nice thought, but it didn't last long.
  3:45pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Love this track, I love the diversity of the last track and this,
  3:45pm
Caffeine:

Mother's Little 2AM Helper
  3:46pm
Alison Porchnik:

Mike - here's a neat trick: Your wife drinks a glass of wine or a beer and then nurses. Your daughter will sleep well. And so will your wife. Conversely, caffeine will have the opposite effect unless she times the coffee drinking carefully.
  3:46pm
Caffeine:

Stick around, Sean -- we'll try to get to something that will test the breadth of your tolerance.
  3:47pm
hamburger:

just momentarily loitering - I don't know you mike east - but best of luck with the babeh! godspeed with those sleepless nights to come :)
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

And Matt's Little 3PM Helper here!
  3:48pm
Alison Porchnik:

Babies get drunk on milk, too, but it's a sugar rush. They just get wacky.
  3:48pm
Parq:

'Scuse the banal comment, but "Don't Mess With the Girls" is really cool.
  3:48pm
GY!SN:

Godspeed You! Sleepless Nights
  3:49pm
Irwin:

@Parq: The WAUE is an offshoot of Angil & Hiddentracks
  3:50pm
BDR:

Toomey! Sometime play Baby Would it Matter please off the same album.
  3:50pm
Caryn:

Apparently, breastmilk has an umami taste.
  3:50pm
Irwin:

SOMEONE HIT THE WIDGET! We're in the home stretch of the silent fundraiser. Pease hep.
  3:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

LOVE how the title and hook of this song pays tribute to a Patsy Cline line! :)
  3:50pm
Caffeine:

An oooh mommy taste???
  3:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey, Jenny's from the DC aea! Shout out!
  3:53pm
Caryn:

@Caffeine: I was wondering how long it would take for someone to do that joke. Less than a minute, apparently. Nice work.
  3:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

"area", even
  3:53pm
Irwin:

Matt: Tell them to hit the widget. You can convince them better than I can.
  3:55pm

great song on a great album
  3:57pm
BDR:

Tsunami was Toomey's DC band.
  3:57pm
Caffeine:

@Caryn:

  3:58pm
Hit the Widget:

That's what she said.

What was the over-under on the rapidity of that comment?
  3:58pm
Listening Out There:

...creative orthography...there's just everything on this program. I mean, everything...
  3:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: I'll give it a try...

So you all know how WFMU is great, and that our shows are so independent and bold. It's YOUR money that does that! Take a listen to NPR, and hear the effect of corporate, government, university and foundation money (and their RULES) that keeps creativity caged and programming "safe". That why you're listening HERE right now instead. So if you haven't pledged this autumn, CLICK THE WIDGET now! Some shows have achieved their October goals, help make Irwin's one of them!
  3:59pm
Alison Porchnik:

Obamney in 1012!
  4:00pm
hamburger:

hmm, just left a passive-aggressive note to my flatmates (I have now become one of -those- people!) but if you leave an unwashed spoon on the counter next to the sink - that isn't just lazy, that's asshole lazy - this after I asked if the dishes left by the side for over a week belonged to them as nicely as possible...
  4:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Regular, or early voting as well?? Then there's in-person or absentee balloting to consider.
  4:00pm
Wed Nov 7th:

All hail Obamnesia!
  4:03pm
G:

Huh, I thought Obamnesia was what he had throughout Debate One.
  4:03pm
Left of the Ballot:

Then there's whether to elect the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party, or the Marcyite Workers World Party? More importantly, do those two factions even believe in electoral politics, or should I start the revolution without you?
  4:03pm
Caryn:

I do love me some Stubby Kaye...
  4:05pm
Judean Socialist Workers' People's Front:

I hate ALL of you! I'm standing off in my corner of the stadium now!
  4:05pm
Laura L:

Somebody told me after he saw the first debate, he changed his mind to NO-bama.

Vote for third parties. NY, NJ, and CT are not in play anyhow.
  4:06pm

@JSWPF: Splitter!
  4:06pm

I'm writing in my vote for a Reaper drone named H-051
  4:07pm

Nostalgia note here; does anyone else remember watching, in the 60s, a Saturday morning stunt-game show called "Shenanigans", hosted by Stubby K? Even had his name in the theme song.
  4:07pm
Heather McCoy:

God an amazing show today......

Caryn:

We actually have local elections this Sunday. Advance voting ended yesterday. At the moment, according to polls, one party has 20 %, 2 parties are tied at about 18.5 %, and another is at around 15 %. And there's about 10 more parties vying for the remaining percentages. Somehow voting is more interesting with more viable parties.
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Vote Stubby Kaye for the "Mayor of Shenanigans"!
  4:10pm
Laura L:

@ Irwin, nah, I'm back from that short L.A. trip, listening on the normal internet from my desk right here in NY.

Irwin:

Thanks to Allison Porchnik for pledging an amount that brought this show's pledge total from 54% to 63%. That makes Allison an official 9-Percenter.
  4:12pm
Caryn:

@Matt: Stubby deserves that vote!
  4:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: That's a good even-split--it would be great if the US had 6/7 major parties into 2 coalitions. You would have to overcome your differences and make alliances if no one has an absolute majority to begin with. And, every party is on the table--coalitions can gain and lose parties based on election results.
  4:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

GO ALLISON P! :D
  4:15pm
"O" R.S.:

I hope she is sending in proper withholding on wherever she got that income from. We don't need freeloaders, folks.
  4:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

That's good for the whole station too. I see the % as a whole has moved from 38% yesterday to 46% now. Move those widgets up! Make those tails wag!
  4:18pm
Caryn:

@Matt: true. Plus, you can have smaller parties get unexpected support if they represent a genuine alternative. Like in the last presidential election, when the candidate of a minor party (usual election support: 6 %) came second with around 40 % of votes because they put up an excellent candidate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Irwin:

Thanks to LAURA L for a nice widget-push.
  4:27pm

I'm really a 99%er but I play a 9%er on TV.

Tabs for me. Two windows (if necessary), and a max of 6 tabs per each.

We actually formed a task force whose purpose is to KEEP Mr. Breckman unemployed. Pretty much all employers are very happy with that program.
  4:31pm

@G: Still prefer Tab to Diet Coke, I take it? :)

Aw man, they had to make a song out of this, instead of leaving it as a great incorrect found sound??
  4:53pm

"GO!"! "Christian Says"! "Rain"!

Matt, au contraire, I think it's pretty brilliant. Nobody else could pull this off. And yes, it is necessary. Someone had to.
