Freddie Fender  Secret Love   Favoriting La Musica De Baldemar Huerta  Back Porch  2001  Lovely offering from Freddie Fender, featuring 10 Spanish ballads and 2 new versions of his biggest hits.

Claudine Longet  Snow   Favoriting Love Is Blue  A & M  197?  Deceptively sweet tune from this French pistol packin' momma. Written by Randy Newman. 
 
Cloudboy  Daydreamland   Favoriting Down At The End Of The Garden  Arc  2001  Demarnia Lloyd leads this incredible New Zealand band; their debut cd I couldn't reccomend higher (if you like lyrical, psychedelic and trance inducing pop) and can be found at http://coffee.co.nz/cloudboy 
Leanna Hieber  You Who Never Arrived   Favoriting Home Recorded Cassette  TDK  2002  Truly brilliant actress and singer, currently starring in Hayfever (Noel Coward) and Dracula at The Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro MN (www.commonwealtheatre.org) reciting poem by Rainer Maria Rilke with the start cut off (my fault). 
Other Peoples Children  Skywave   Favoriting MIcroindie Sampler #2  ?  2001  This is from a free sampler from Microindie mailorder (www.microindie.com) because I've been too lazy to buy the full cd yet. 
Transistor Six  Always Mock Tutor   Favoriting Will There Be Time For Tea?  Morgan Leah  1999?  Indie pop electronica from 26 song comp featuring Laura Watling, The Foots, Tara Emelye, many more. (www.morganleahrecords.com) 
Velocity Star  Warm Leatherette   Favoriting Final Solstice II  Piski Disk  1999  A match made in some alternate, perverse heaven- Rose Mcdowall (Strawberry Switchblade, Spell, Sorrow, Current 93) having a go at The Normal classic. From a collection of various (at the time) forthcoming Rose projects, Velocity Star is her home recorded music. 
Johnny Cash  Onie   Favoriting ?      Classic Cash storytelling song, often heard on the radio in MN. Taken from the record library at the station, and I can't recall the name of the cd I picked. 
 
Stina Nordenstam  The Diver   Favoriting This Is Stina Nordenstam  Independiente  2001  Swedish singer who emerges somewhat unsmothered by Mitchell Froom's layered production. 
Antony & The Johnsons  I fell in Love With A Dead Boy   Favoriting Mix CDR  Phillips  2000?  OK, my friend Raffe put this on a mix cdr and I love it- I'm pretty sure it is on a single with a Twin Peaks cover version as well. 
Nina Nastasia  In The Graveyard   Favoriting The Blackened Air  Touch And Go  2001  Dark indie country folk song from this NYC singer songwriter. 
Jackson Code  Who Cares Anyway?   Favoriting The Things You Need  Ra  1997?  Much missed Australian band with a tune featuring Kathryn Wemyss on the vocals. 
Sammi Smith  This Room For Rent   Favoriting The Fabulous Sammi Smith  Buckboard  1973?  Depressing and soulful country from this singers early (& finest) recordings. 
Margo Guryan  The Hum   Favoriting 25 Demos  Franklin Castle  2001  Watergate inspired tune from great 60's/70's singer songwriter. "The Hum" refers to the silent section of the tapes. 
 
Diane Cluck  Macy's Day Bird   Favoriting Macy's Day Bird  self released cd  2001  Unique, strange and beautiful music from the NY area- if you live there, I highly reccommend going to her live shows. There's also two amazing cds available; contact cluckfemme@aol.com.

Jonathan Lemon / Jesus Couldn't Drum  Da Da Da   Favoriting Lemonworld Oddities  Self Released    Jonathan was half of the core of Jesus Couldn't Drum, a quirky strange fun and tuneful band that were well loved by the FMU of the 80's/90's. This is from a 37 song cd of odds n' ends that feels like a rollercoaster, and is as much fun. Write to: tropicola@hotmail.com. Oh, & it's the Trio song. 
Simon Cropp  MTA   Favoriting Home Recorded Cassette    2002  Simon is a 5 year old singer from my new hometown of Lanesboro, MN. I've always enjoyed his rendition of this Kingston Trio tune, and with a subway fare increase brewing, it seemed topical. 
Wilders  Robinson County   Favoriting Cornbread, Molasses and Sassafras Tea  Rural Grit  1999  I was running out of time, but I at least had to put in a sample of this amazing bluegrass group. If you like very alive sounding fiddle, old time & honky-tonk, write to bewilder@kc.net. And they absolutely rock beyond belief live!
