"The Evil Dope"--classic of WFMU and the Blog!

Matt from Springfield:

Shit--that was CONWAY Twitty?!? "Rockin Years" indeed! Never knew he once had the blues rock sound!
  3:23pm
Tom:

Since you're playing Hendrix, could you play 51st Anniversary, a tune that should've been a big hit for him, it had everything going for it, but for some strange reason, never charted!

Ted:

Sorry Tom, I don't have it with me today.

Euclid Joe:

The soundtrack to my afternoon. Thanks Ted!

Euclid Joe:

Chuck Jackson, painfully underrated

That's a very fitting Junior Parker song for all us Redbird fans.

Matt from Springfield:

Alternate mix of "In The Street", interesting to hear.
Is the Liquor Giants a new or older band? I like that power pop sound.
Avatar 4:01pm
Ted:

The Liquor Giants were a band from the 90s

Cool, thanks Ted.

Adam from NC:

keepin' it real ted!

Euclid Joe:

Someone asked me once why St. Louis loves Power Pop so much. I don't think it's a St. Louis thing and I can't explain that, but I think we're all looking to fill that hole left wide open by The Beatles in 1970.

Ted:

Yeah, I don't know either. I certainly don't like the term, but the music is melodious to my ears.

Matt from Springfield:

@Euclid Joe: St. Louis, and bands with a Memphis origin. Something about the figurative middle of the country, the highway for jazz/blues/everything else being spread through the rest of America, good music from there in general.
  4:25pm
Euclid Joe:

hence the reason that used record buying is great in KC, chicago, St. Lou, Detroit etc. Everyone came through going from East to West.
  4:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

Also true Joe!
Do you see records at Euclid with labels/stamps from their stores of origin, and see records from across the country?
  4:43pm
Euclid Joe:

Well, since I'm Midwest, I'm bound to find mostly records purchased from this territory, but record hunting has always been a goldmine in the MW. Just ask all those Japanese fellows that flood the record shows. Matt, we do keep a collection of other stores stickers. I'll post a pic on our FB page.

Teetoller Lightnin'!

Thanks Joe!

Matt from Springfield:

Halloween novelties :)
IS "The Ran-Dells" actually Randy and the Rainbows?? Kinda sounds like them!
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nope, separate group with separate article. Apparently "Martian Hop" was their one hit!
  4:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Ted, good show!
