Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

Any joy division julie? I need cheering up..!
Avatar 🦇 4:36am
Julie:

HA! Yeah Ian Curtis is quite the pick me up!
  4:40am
fred von helsing:

I was intrigued by Ken's description of sturmtime WFMU as an island off the shore of the Jersey mainland. It conjures a mental image of the 60s pirate radio station that was stationed in the WW2 sea fortress off the coast of the UK. Freeform on enormous stilts. Echos of War of the Worlds. A T-shirt design beckons. The salt spray gets in your nose. Prepare to be boarded and/or assimilated !
Avatar 🦇 4:42am
Julie:

I don't know if we even have money for another t-shirt :/
Avatar 🦇 4:48am
Julie:

I love how trippy this is..such a good band
  4:49am
fred von helsing:

Yeah he said that as things stand at the moment, even two weeks is pushing it. The worst cash situation in the history of the station. Doubleplus ouch.
Avatar 🦇 4:52am
Julie:

And my little widget isn't moving
Avatar 🦇 4:58am
Julie:

Amazon has just sent me a notice there's a new Susan Boyle album. Is that what I get for buying the last Tori album from them?
  5:03am
Dark Knight Dan:

How does the building leak so much water? Does the insurance company not cover anything?
Avatar 🦇 5:04am
Julie:

I don't really know. We didn't have any leaks this time around, it was all power surges
  5:07am
fred von helsing:

Yeah check out Ken's thang. He says no roof leaks or water at all, the damage all came from brownouts and/or overvoltages, that in prior episodes the power has always gone off cleanly.
  5:07am
fred von helsing:

He discusses insurance too. Pretty hairy situation.

Ahhh. Indeed WFMU.

An oasis of strangeness in a desert of normalcy. Or something like that.

audiolog:

Hi, Julie! Greetings from St. Petersburg (Russia). I Listen to your best romantic show very often! Unfortunately off-line.
It would be nice to hear on your show artists such: David Silvian (or/and Japan), Roxy Music, Stina Nordenstam (excellent swedish singer-songwrighter) or something from norwegian tiny wave group (like The White Birch). I think many of these would be good for such mood.
How about artists from the fine label Crepuscule (interesting compilation Les Filles Du Crepuscule) such Gabrielle Lazure, Virna Lindt (especially) and others?

Best wishes and health for you and favorite station.
  12:12pm
Van in DC:

Oooh, audiolog, totally agree on David Sylvian! Brilliant Trees & especially the double LP Gone To Earth are both just...well...brilliant.
