Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:27am Julie:

Good morning, meghan!
  4:27am meghan:

Julie did you see Birthday Massacre play recently? They were advertising for it at Irving Plaza on Sat.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:28am Julie:

I thought they were at Bowery, and no, I hesitated and the actually sold out.
  4:29am Deathasaurus Timothy:

Good morning Julie! This is an awesome live set, perfect for how I'm feeling.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:29am Julie:

Morning deathasaur!
  4:30am meghan:

I was at Irving Plaza. I was there for Rev Horton Heat and X. But they had the screen down advertising other shows. I thought hey! Julie opens with them!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:31am Julie:

Yep..and that's not helping me get them here to play :P I did see them about the same time last year though. How was X? Sounds like a great show
  4:40am Matt from Springfield:

LUXURY! When I was a lad you could wake up a 4:30 and still catch some of a Dark Night live set! ;)

Hi Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:40am Julie:

heya Matt!
  4:41am Matt from Springfield:

Look forward to listening to the whole set, and Soundpool before then! Compare and contrast with Stargazer Lillies.
  4:41am meghan:

They were great. Billy Zoom still creepy as ever at the end of the stage
  4:44am Officer Pupp:

Greetings from the UK. Enjoying the Stargazer Lilies set. They didn't mention it but I see they have some tracks on Bandcamp.
  4:44am fred von helsing:

Just tuned in. LIKING! :-D
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:44am Julie:

Yep that's their output at the moment until the album comes in.
  4:46am Matt from Springfield:

Why Guten Morgen Von Helsing! Yeah, love their shoegazey sound. Or I guess we're staring at the stars while listening? Actually, that works for me very well!
  4:46am fred von helsing:

hyvää itsenäisyyspäivä kaikille !
  4:46am Matt from Springfield:

And hello to Officer Pupp as well!
  4:49am meghan:

Great live set Julie! Need to check more out!
  4:49am Matt from Springfield:

Happy Independence Day für alle [sic]! :)
Wikipedia confirms it, along with all the other national holidays! Kick those Russkies out!
  4:51am Matt from Springfield:

<3 <3 <3 The Kim Jong Il ditypch! Perfect photo for the hall!
  4:52am Matt from Springfield:

meitä ja heitä!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54am Julie:

Matt the hall is lined with all kinds of crazy people, somehow she ended up next to that one, and the other half of that photo is a sleestak (or however you spell that)
  4:56am Matt from Springfield:

It's one of my fave oil paintings I've seen there. And yes, the sleestak in the ditypch is really what makes it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:57am Julie:

That and the johnny muller gallery are always the highlights of the tour
  4:58am Matt from Springfield:

Did listener/caller Johnny Muller put together some paintings for FMU?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:00am Julie:

Oh he sends Frangry a drawing every week
  5:01am Matt from Springfield:

Well I of course would've prefered a fade in to "Any Colour You Like" followed by "Brain Damage", but if you're not playing the next track, I like how you played a few secs, then faded down. It's a better, natural feel then just switching to another song.
  5:01am Matt from Springfield:

Wow, gotta admire Johnny's dedication!
  5:02am sweet cheri:

g'morning & happy holidays julie,i'm listening to the show this morning,,i love it! btw do you have a favorite holiday tune? i really love "silent night"!
  5:06am Matt from Springfield:

Mistle Thrush? This is lovely! This whole set (and before) is quite nice, especially when it's still dark out!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:06am Julie:

Matt they are twisted and really good, they get posted on the Shut up Weirdo Facebook page
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:07am Julie:

I'm in a chill mood these days, matt, life has been too hectic and stressy lately. So I come in with the more tranquil tunes
  5:09am Deathasaurus Timothy:

I live near London and would be happy to give The Stargazer Lilies shelter. I'm in a band playing in London so gig sharing / swapping could be arranged. Just a thought.
  5:10am Matt from Springfield:

Not that *I*, of all people would protest such a tranquil block! :)
Like Robin Guthrie/Harold Budd! Now you're talkin'!

Cool, I'll check out the SUW FB and see.
  5:11am sweet cheri:

well i'll see you next week julie, hopefuly i'll be here a little earlier see you then!
  5:17am Matt from Springfield:

Air!! They're awesome, and this is a rare outright lead vocal from them. Most are instrumental.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:19am Julie:

I thought perhaps it was a different Air? I'm not sure, they're kind of new to me.
  5:24am Matt from Springfield:

Nope, it is the same French band Air! Talkie Walkie has been quite acclaimed. "Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone called the album "excellent" and commented that Air "return to what they do best: elegantly moody soundtrack music for imaginary films." " I love it when bands score for imaginary films!
  5:26am Matt from Springfield:

There's even a Wiki page for "Cherry Blossom Girl"

JM listeners might be tuning in by this point, glad you kept it safe! ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:26am Julie:

Yeah Matt I don't censor too much, but the original version is kinda..laden..
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:26am Julie:

Which is why I didn't go with the Abney Park cover
  5:33am Mugsy:

I think I ran into that Cherry Blossom Girl at a GG Allin show in the 80's, is she from Staten Island?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36am Julie:

I think she is actually. A friend I know from elsewhere went to high school with her. She's very tall.
  5:38am Matt from Springfield:

Cool, it seems you've met Terre long before her "fame" here! And she is a rare DJ who plays (some) GG Allin on the radio today!
  5:39am Matt from Springfield:

Great Casket Girls!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41am Julie:

Yes! They played tonight. I'm trying to get them in, but they aren't local.
  5:41am pierre:

I like Joy Division like my coffee, black
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42am Julie:

Who'd have thought the Joy Division song would be the most uptempo thing all night
  5:45am Matt from Springfield:

Bonjour pierre!
Joy Division ranges from dark, to black hole singularity!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:46am Julie:

Black Hole Singularity, what kind of music do they play?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49am Julie:

Wow time went so fast! Thanks for listening you guys!
  5:52am Matt from Springfield:

Black Hole Singularity would prob play the polar opposite of Soundgarden!

Thanks for the ethereal sets lately, Julie!
  5:54am pierre:

yeah it was fast, see you soon Julie, and thanks
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:55am Julie:

I'm glad you like them, Matt! It gets so quiet around here!
  5:58am Matt from Springfield:

Have a great Thursday everyone!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:58am Meghan:

awwww it's over.... I was happily zoning....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:58am Julie:

  11:20am audiolog:

Julie! What do you think about some stuff of gothic folk like Current, Death in June, Jarboe, In Govan Ring or something else? About playing such things?
  7:56am woj:
