I'm sorry, DJKG, I'm afraid I can't do that.
  3:24pm
DJKG:

just joshing. focusing on boring work and feeling creepy.
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

Daevid Allen is such a trip! All-around beatnik from Australian, moved to the Canterbury Scene. I like him much.
  3:25pm
amEdeo:

Matt-AmeriHuman! Good day! Why thank you, I hope you enjoyed/had a positive experience with it! Messed up my vocal chords a little during the screams.

OH MY WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT.
  3:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey, as long as you read children's stories with a creepy subtext, I'm cool with it! :)
WFMU should receive the National Medal of AmeriHumanities.
  3:31pm
DCE:

hi guys!
  3:31pm
Van in DC:

Drive by Hi Scott!
  3:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Scott: Have you ever heard /of Michael Zentner? He was a onetime of DC group The Muffins, but he did a great solo album Present Time. One track is like jazzy math prog with a peculiar Daevid Allen vocal.
  3:32pm
amEdeo:

I no longer am certain where one WFMU and WFMU and WFMU and WFMU and somewhere there is a show and another and another but then they are all looping. We are humans and make things with mouths and brains. Individual, together, and Nackt Insecten, and here all are.

i think i have become unstuck from

Your show makes me cry

@Bob: Whatever that's about, PERFECT comment timing! :)

Let's make that award a reality! Who has tin-foil and a degree in metallurgy?

This reminds me of Pages from the Book of Boldness. Weird.

Hi to $tanley, G, Van, DCE, NGH, BSI and all other listeners as well!

College art programs often have majors in "jewelrymaking"--perfect place to look for an ambitious, unwitting crafter!

I took the last train to Downersville, and I met you at the station. The radio station.
  3:40pm
amEdeo:

Don't worry $tanley, everyone loves everyone and the world isn't going to end.
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@$tanley: I saw legendary Hollywood "Golden Age" musical "The Bandwagon" this weekend--they rhymed "prince meet" with "mincemeat". Good rhymes are ever-higher layers of icing on a cake, until it gets so heavy it tips over.
  3:41pm
Chris from DC:

Wow I need to hear all of this new Forma. Nice.
  3:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

I have a certain place in mind to celebrate "World Ending" at--stay through midnight and hopefully keep the party going!
  3:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Chris: Is this Forma new new? It has a great 70s Krautrock feel to it!
  3:44pm
amEdeo:

Matt, I'll look through the station's yellow pages for nearby art schools. I'll tell them I'm a representative calling on the behalf of "Mr. Matthew Springfield, Vice-Chancellor of the board of AmeriHumanities".
  3:44pm
$tanley The Meet Lady:

@matt !!!!!!!!!!
  3:45pm
Chris from DC:

@Matt: New new. Or is that neu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

hey Matt, it is new, on Spectrum Spools. Stanley - don't worry, the world won't end. Johnny Ray coming up for you later: you'll feel better if you cry.

Or how bout Dexys: "Poor old Johnny Raaaaay..."!

Thanks Chris, Scott!
  3:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

@amE: Excellent! While we might not be able to pay them a lot of fame upfront, they will receive a cut of all future fame from the medal, once a bedazzled world knows they crafted it!
  3:56pm
bloopy:

scott . u killing it mate

  3:56pm
KP:

Hey Scott!
  3:56pm
Michael Nesmith:

Tragedy pr0n! Lovin' it!
  3:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

First time I really heard Mahler, that was intriguing and beautiful.
Also, seems the "Kindertotenlieder" are a previous set of poems by Friedrich Rückert. Worth reading in their own right.
  3:58pm
KP:

Hey Michael Nesmith, what size wool cap do you wear?
  3:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Poor old Johnnie Ray!
Now you HAVE to play "Come On Eileen"! ;)
  3:59pm
Michael Nesmith:

Too small. It binds something AWWWFULLL

Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Israel,Earth,Milky Way):

What was that little snippet, something like...

How do I know what you're saying is real?
You don't.
How do I know that you're telling the truth?
I'm not.
  4:08pm
Carmichael:

Good day Scotty and yon peoples.

What is the quote from?
" I can't tell when you're telling me the truth."
- I'm not.
"How do I know anything you've told me is..."
- You don't.

  4:10pm
Carmichael:

I would not be able to wash dishes to this music.
  4:11pm
Julie:

this reminds me of some tv theme and it's making me nuts trying to remember what
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Scott W:

Welcome Yair! Good to see you. nihiles, it's actually from the Mothers of Invention album "Uncle Meat"
  4:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: "Doctor Who" on an old VHS about to self-destruct? ;)
  4:13pm
Carmichael:

Cosmos, as the planets whoosh by and Carl Sagan talks about "star stuff"?
  4:15pm
nihiles:

Thanks Scott. I guess the quickness of it and the sound of it had me believing it was from some film noir.
And I wish I was home instead of work because I have dishes that could be washed to this music.
  4:15pm
Julie:

@Matt I didn't watch old Dr Who. But yeah probably something sci-fi
  4:17pm
Carmichael:

In fact, my dishes are probably getting dirtier.
  4:18pm
tom:

Scott: Forma Mecanique is just too good. Made my day. Love that stuff.
  4:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Was it as "manic" as this Tom Cameron? Pretty high energy rhythm for a theme.

@Carm: It's probably more music to "cleanse" dishes by--as in dipping them into a magma flow and watching the mess (and the dish itself) turn to obsidian.
  4:24pm
Carmichael:

Just like not being able to play anything sad on a banjo, you just can't help but be happy with synthesized handclaps.
  4:26pm
still b/p:

If I did dishes to that track, the outcome would be similar to when Mack Sennett took a bit of advice to stop work in the afternoon on the Keystone (as in Cops) movie set and serve tea: "The breakage was awful and several strangers got scalded."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Scott W:

Oooh, Carm, I guess you haven't heard Henry Flynt play the banjo, or Sandy Bull doing Carmina Burana
  4:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: There's that Irwin bed with a banjo that veers towards sadness (though, not *nearly* as sad as its title would suggest. Lemme see if I can find that title...)

As I rediscovered Fraggle Rock (and its music) some years ago, I also noticed for the first time the sheer joy of synth/drum machine handclaps. Followed by Lipps Inc. and other examples, I am now a huge proponent of them.
  4:31pm
Carmichael:

Can't say that I have, Scott. I took for granted the quote I stole from Steve Martin. But I stand by my synthesized handclaps remark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
Scott W:

oh yeah, the synthesized handclaps are incorruptible! for more sad banjo, check out World Standard's "Country Gazette"
  4:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oddly, this is a good follow-up to Arrigo :)

Now how come this song is never on any Karaoke machine *I* come across?!
  4:41pm
steve:

Gary Wilson = genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Scott W:

@steve: hell yeah, Gary's still got it! PBWolf & MadLib been real good for him too
  4:42pm
map:

that was a great song
  4:44pm
Carmichael:

Now I could wash a hell of a lot of dishes to Vice Versa.
  4:44pm
steve:

i heard theyre repressing You Think You Really Know Me !
  4:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Btw, "Perpetual Dolesome Machine" by Bud Melvin is said sad banjo music. Though I still agree that the title sounds sadder than the actual piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Scott W:

@steve: again?! That'll make at least issue #4. but good, they can prolly get gary heard by more ppl
  4:51pm
steve:

yup, the great Feeding Tube Records said they're putting it out next year some time
  4:56pm
Carmichael:

That documentary on Gary Wilson was excellent, BTW. Nice work, WFMU! Was that Brian Turner who was in a piece of it, or am I misremembering someone else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
Scott W:

@carm: naw dude, that was me! Gary was on my show in 2002. DJ Duane was also in the doc
  4:59pm
Carmichael:

Ya know, as soon as I hit enter I thought it may have been you. Sorry for the misrememberance. You are indeed the man.
  5:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

YES! Go FMA!

Finally putting legs on that idea! Challenge "Happy Birthday" supremacists!!!
  5:05pm
Sergeus:

Who play that Bolero version?
  5:11pm
jerame:

if i recollect, relatives: gospel + funk = Can
  5:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Sergeus: It's Kebekelektrik, as in "Quebec electric"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
Scott W:

Ah, got it! Close, jerame - it was "gospel + Funkadelic = Can"
  5:17pm
steve:

that Source of Yellow LP is great
  5:19pm
Carmichael:

Nothing says soulful jazz like serving hard time.
  5:21pm
Sergeus:

@Matt, thanks
  5:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

No prob, Serge!
  5:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nativity of the Lord, Superstar!!
  5:38pm
$ssstamley:

At first I thought it read handicaps and not handclaps @scott
  5:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Back in "The United States Of America"!! Rockin' that fuzz bass and cor anglais! Excellent Nugget!
  5:43pm
tim from champaign:

I love this USA album. It's one of my go to "so you've never heard this before, eh?" records when sitting around with friends drinking beer and listening to records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Scott W:

@tim, same here! I actually keep forgetting how good a few of the trax on there are
  5:52pm

Has Oneida appeared at Primavera? I seem to recall one of their sets somewhere.
  5:53pm

Evening' Scott & chums.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm

@carm: yep! they played in 2009, opposite Neil Young, haha - they still got a good crowd. great set, mostly improv, I got to record it. Archive is in in here somewhere
  5:54pm
BSI:
