Mike suffered a heart attack and collapsed during a Rigor Mortis show commemorating RM vocalist Bruce Corbett's 50th birthday. Paramedics were unable to revive him. Mike was 47. There are some reports that he had a seizure because he had asked for the strobe lights onstage to be shut off, but he was passing along a request for RM drummer Harden Harrison.
