Good afternoon Diane, Luna, Jim, Coe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm fred:

Hello Cecile!
I wish I could star Diane's intro and bed music

Avatar 12:10pm SiHV:

Love that Psychic Ills track.
  12:10pm Luna:

Afternoon fred
  12:11pm Jim:

afternoon y'all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm fred:

Is that a new Art Brut?
  12:14pm dinatekno:

Bush Tetras were sounding very like Siouxie! Loved it!!!
  12:14pm seang:

  12:14pm Jim:

I want more BEER!!
Avatar 12:15pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hey All! Thanks for tuning in!!

The Art Brut is from 2011...

Spit Stix of FEAR and now Nasalrod on at 1pm. Hand over any questions you might have!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coe:

was just turned on to Art Brut the other day by EFD and I have adopted his song DC Comics and Chocolate Milkshakes as my theme song. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm tim from champaign:

Hey all. Has anyone watched the recent Bones Brigade documentary? I was really blown away with the Rodney Mullen interviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm coe:

@Tim just watched it yesterday. Had the same reaction. Rodney and Lance were the two most intriguing to me.
  12:19pm andymorphic:

chANNEL 3....saw then in like 84....one of the best bands from that era
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm tim from champaign:

Yeah, the Lance interviews were great too. I forgot that he was a young father. What a humble guy.
Avatar 12:21pm Bad Ronald:

Hello Diane et al. Can you ask Spit for any tales of the infamous SNL appearance and or recollections of working with the RHCP please? Love your show. Thanks!
Avatar 12:21pm glenn:

i like art brut a lot. they're like the fall, if they practised instead of drinking.
Avatar 12:22pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

I think I'm obligated to star any song about soccer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm laura spike:

ch3. makes me feel 15 again. miserably 15.
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

well, since about three people have mentioned the Fear appearance on SNL, we could ask about that.

No Beer really felt like an afterthought to me - did it do better or worse than the first album?
Avatar 12:23pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

OH CRAP, Spit Stix is there!! Duh! I second Bad Ron's question.
Avatar 12:25pm BSI:

Maybe not 15, but I suspect much of this show will make me feel 18 again. Miserably (awesomely) 18.
Avatar 12:26pm glenn:

dc pat. - sports.nationalpost.com...
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

more ?
What band does he think was really underrated from that period?

What was Fear's message? I got the sardonic humor - but was the humor out of anger or cynicism?
Avatar 12:27pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

well the SNL appearance was one of the greatest tv moments ever, that's all.
Avatar 12:28pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

Yeah I saw that glenn, what the hell caused him to attack the ball boy??
Avatar 12:29pm BSI:

ah, it was early Bad Religion, which explains why I could stand it. shew.
Avatar 12:29pm Cheri Pi:

Back from Lunch! Delicious, delicious falafel today.
Avatar 12:29pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

I guess the real question is what was he thinking? Maybe the Swansea suit pissed him off...
Avatar 12:30pm glenn:

playing for chelsea, maybe? or maybe his inner zinedine zidane just came out.
Avatar 12:31pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm coe:

Avatar 12:32pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

"playing for chelsea" funny... speaking of footie, BSI: did you happen to catch that Gunners match the other day? ike 4 goals in 10 minutes? My boy was flipping!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm coe:

@DC & Glenn wonder if he thought it was someone who jumped the wall.
Avatar 12:33pm Cecile:

I'm half asleep, hopped up on benadryls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm coe:

This is such a great album. Could have been released right after Nothingface.
Avatar 12:34pm glenn:

maybe, but still. kicking somebody?
Avatar 12:34pm BSI:

DCP: I couldn't get that match, but I did ample out-flippage when I read the highlights. Chronic gooner here. The dog gets concerned whenever there's a match on the TV.
Avatar 12:34pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

still, totally deserved red.
Avatar 12:34pm BSI:

@Cecile: I want to be hopped-up on sleep. Is that possible?
Avatar 12:35pm Cecile:

this sunscreen for babies I was using because I was out of moisturizer gave me 2 egg-sized puffs under my eyes. The benadryl is helping to bring the swelling down, but now I'm zonjked.
Avatar 12:35pm spidermank:

This Voivod track shudda woke you a bit
Avatar 12:35pm Cheri Pi:

Good job Cecile :) Feel better, I hope it's not the flu. DAMN this new Voivod! is awesome!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm jmd:

NmN? Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm coe:

I also find that Snake channels Jaz Coleman more so on this album then ever before.
  12:36pm Luna:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm laura spike:

so, so great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm coe:

Ladies and gentlemen I give you NomeansNo. One of the greatest bands to ever exist
Is ths a Canadian set DK? :)
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

spiderm, it is a little.
Avatar 12:39pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm joe:

@glenn Oh I totally a footballer kicking someone is not diffrent than a hockey player taking his stick to someones head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm coe:

Ah DK you really know how to make a guy smile
Avatar 12:41pm glenn:

actually, i'd rather have a broken rib than a concussion, and having had a few sticks swung at my head, i've had a couple.
  12:42pm SteveL:

A punker friend of mine says he went to an IHOP with FEAR following an 82-83 show in Madison Wisconsin. Mentioned something about the inevitable collision between the band and the dozen or so bottles of pancake syrup on the table.

Any memory of that?
Avatar 12:43pm spidermank:

is benadryls a bit like benalyn? if so this killing joke track might have dropped you under again a bit, in a soothing way i'd imagine
Avatar 12:48pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

ugh. concussions happen in soccer too--2 heads going after the same sweet spot on a ball. Not looking forward to when the boy is allowed to do headers..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm tim from champaign:

I'm a dope about dope. Does benadryl make you speedy or dopey? And is benadryl related to benzedrine?
Avatar 12:52pm BSI:

Saccharine Trust: always a good decision.
and DCP: at least he's onto the One True Football.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm coe:

@dc it gives me that special nauseas feeling when I even see that happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm DCE:

my kid played touch rugby last year and liked it, but I guess they're going full-contact this year. Don't know whether I'll let him do that or not.
Avatar 12:55pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

@BSI: yeah maybe too much--he's obsessed. I've been considering showing him how to throw an American football (a throwball).
Avatar 12:57pm spidermank:

i remember involuntarilly heading the ball with my nose after my mate toe 'obbed it full tonk in my mush on a freezing cold day and the smell of gas and flashing lights accompying the disolving conciousness...i deffo prefer the broken ribs
  12:57pm seang:

Avatar 12:57pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

I would not be able to deal with watching my kid play rugby or throwball. Just too much.
Avatar 12:57pm Cecile:

benadryl is an OTC allergry medication. It either makes you hyper or drowsy depeding on how you react to anti histamines. I'm practially falling asleep writing this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Stevel:

Benadryl generally makes people sleepy. Some even use it (with doctor support) as a sleep aid.
Avatar 12:59pm Droll:

Hopelessness is the heaviest use of the Bo Diddly beat I've ever heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Stevel:

Hoping all this medical talk brings up "I Am A Doctor" by FEAR.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm fred:

I like the pairs of titles in this set: Turn To Red/Join, We Became Snakes/We Destroy the Family, Shameless Premonition/Hopelessness
Well played Diane!
Avatar 1:01pm BSI:

Yeh I was going to invoke Rugby as well. Might as well have him get into competitive wood-chipper diving. All things considered, footy isn't bad. He could end up a star at Arsenal and will set us all up for life. Yes, I get a percentage. Because please?
Avatar 1:04pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

well that's the plan. I actually looked up the DC Academy last night to see when he can get in there. He's pretty talented at 6. When he get's an Arsenal contract, I'll look you up..
Avatar 1:06pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

"DC United Academy" that is.
Avatar 1:08pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

nice cover there by Rezillos
Avatar 1:10pm BSI:

I could die happy if Nina Hagen would put an arm around me & call me SPITTY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm coe:

Did you think the Chili Peppers would last? Any stories about working with them.
Avatar 1:20pm BSI:

Billy Cobham! Nice one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Stevel:

Wow. I did seven years in drum corps as a horn player. It was an alternative existence. Who knew?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Stevel:

FEAR was always funny, if not nice. They walked that edge between humor and, well, being assholes. Even Lee Ving's count off style had to be a riff on the increasing speed in punk and HC.
Avatar 1:23pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

great interview!
Avatar 1:23pm Cheri Pi:

I love it when musicians blow your mind with their experiences.
Avatar 1:23pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

New Wave Theater RULED!
Avatar 1:24pm BSI:

Ah, thanks to cable in the '80s, got to see all those New Wave Theater shows in DC. Brilliant stuff.
  1:24pm Juan Carlo:

Did Fear really record a soundtrack for "Neighbors" with John Belushi?
  1:24pm Jim:

New Wave Theater..they played a song called Mangle
Avatar 1:27pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

They also played Fuck Christmas.
  1:27pm Jim:

Didn't John Belushi also want BLACK FLAG?
Avatar 1:29pm Cecile:

Juan Carlo, they recorded some demos, I believe.
The music supervisor nearly had a heart attack, so they wre out.

It's depicted hilariously (unintentionally) by Bob Woodward in his Belushi book.
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

that's such a bad book but hysterical in its hysteria.
Avatar 1:32pm glenn:

oh oh. all the carpenters fans are having a meltdown.
  1:35pm Jim:

Karen Carpenter is an amazing drummer
Avatar 1:35pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

the assigned producer from EMI was Andy Gill?? Didn't know that...
Avatar 1:37pm Cecile:

I liked their first album. Listening to Spit Stix, I see why I liked their album.
Avatar 1:38pm jdelz:

No need for a guest playlist today. This interview can just run the whole show!
Avatar 1:42pm glenn:

yes she is. so's phil collins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm coe:

@dc yeah supposedly was not a positive experience.
Avatar 1:46pm Cecile:

he was gay.
And I've heard he was a real sweetheart offstage.
Avatar 1:47pm BSI:

Thanks to BT, finally got turned on to Screamers just last year. Talk about being late to the party. But jeezus, what brilliant stuff.
  1:48pm Jim:

I saw the Dwarves/Elvis Hitler and FEAR..show was amazing
Avatar 1:49pm Cecile:

those dangerhouse records were tight.
Avatar 1:49pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

yeah this is quality stuff. Leave it to the drummer to give us the straight story--just like Hugo Burnham.
Avatar 1:51pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

JEEZE! I'm not getting ANYthing done today..
Avatar 1:51pm Jim Devoid:

Nice to hear the Dills!
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

I taped my friend's Dangerhouse singles years ago and WORE that tape out.
Swag For Life Member 1:53pm phat:

Yes. I'm definitely in the mood for some hardcore. Nice. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm tim from champaign:

I listened to the Dangerhouse comp that was issued in the early 90s on Frontier earlier this week. I loooove Howard Wuerth's "Obsolete".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm tim from champaign:

Who did Tim say was a mellow dude off stage? I didn't catch the name.
  1:54pm Juan Carlo:

I took time off work to listen to this.
So glad I did.
Avatar 1:54pm Cecile:

I have that, and the boot that came out before that (me want breakfast)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Stevel:

Anything about the Alley Cats? One of the sharpest punk bands ever, in my book.
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

tomata du plenty, tim.

I missed the first part of the interview! Ah well.

Avatar 2:12pm Cecile:

I love "Horses", but that production is way thin.
  2:17pm Nick S:

What a great interview, Diane! He seems like such a nice fella.
  2:20pm Nick S:

I was Nasalrod's 666th "like" on their FB page.
Avatar 2:20pm markdavess:

There's a link to Nasalrod's facebook page at the bottom of the intro page of their site. Bandcamp, MySpace and Soundcloud links too. nasalrod.com
Swag For Life Member 2:22pm phat:

This is great.
Avatar 2:22pm markdavess:

I was almost the 666th person to like their page, but someone beat me to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm coe:

I like what I hear.
Swag For Life Member 2:23pm phat:

The singer's voice reminds me of Gary Floyd a bit. Which is definitely a compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm coe:

Oh geez I just turned around at my desk and relized while under my headphones the influenza fear posters have been posted all over my office.
Avatar 2:24pm markdavess:

It was Nick. Old Nick?
Avatar 2:24pm ḑĉ ṗáŧ:

Reminds me a little of Lee Ving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Stevel:

I've been in and out, so this may have come up. This is a very worthwhile video of Spit/Tim and how he became caretaker for an elderly woman. Very cool.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm chris:

Well, this track is effing awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm chris:

So, has it been asked, or does Spit/Tim like programming drum machines as well as playing drums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm chris:

so, that was drumming and *not* drum machine? holy shit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm chris:

ah, ok...

For some reason everytime he mentions them the quality of feed goes to crap. Does he keep refrenceing the Mint Chicks?
Avatar 2:45pm Jennique:

Definitely like this Marmits version of this song. Who sang this originally?
Avatar 2:46pm Cecile:

Sophie B. Hawkins.
