Streaming a tad choppy here, too. I just chalk that up to Verizon DSL being throttled while a zillion or so people are grabbing superbowl feeds and such.

One ex-second-in-command had it in for me from day one. Gave me a three-page writeup once for going to lunch without asking (my only writeup in 23 years at that company). When he was out of town the editor above him would come out of his office to work at this guy's desk; when the top boss was gone, this guy would go in that office and close the door. casey:

Oh yes. Too familiar with c-blocking in the work place and organizations. Unfortunately, this kind of scenario seems to be the rule rather than the exception, at least in the circles I travel in. I volunteer with the local chapter of a national non profit environmental organization. I coordinate meetings, membership outreach, and serve as the board secretary. . A colleague of mine on our board supposedly holds similar responsibilities for the state chapter of the organization. He serves on both the state and the local boards. On a couple of occasions I've been called on to fill in for the duties he's not taking care of at the state chapter. In some cases, the colleague I'm speaking of has actually passed these little jobs off to me because isn't familiar with the membership database. So, occasionally, I get emails from the State board asking put together a mailing list or whatever, and I do it. No problem. I'm here for the team, not for my own personal advancement. I'm not competing with him or jockeying for a position at the state level, I'm just doing what I was asked to do as a volunteer and in-kind contributor. . . So long story short, my colleague went to great lengths to take little snipes at me, including overly effusive expressions of gratitude for just doing my job. Not his place to do that really, but I don't see it as any kind of competition, so I just smile confusedly and attempt to accept the compliment or whatever graciously. Later it dawns on me that his behavior is actually quite condescending and spun from competitive instinct that I haven't bought in to. So, now he's expressed interest in co-chairing the membership committee with the local group. I wasn't reading these moves as power-plays until a few weeks ago... long story there, but a few social cues later, and unwarranted assertions of superiority, and I think I've kind of picked up what's going on. So, I've started being a bit cold, and openly shaming him for his incompetence to other members of our board.). He's been a little less cocky lately. Also, he's now serving as the campaign manager for a local politician, and I've approached the candidate, and offered to do the sort of things things I know he can't (or won't) do, and do to it for free, as an in-kind contribution. . . So, thanks, Monica! I needed to vent that, and I relate to your situation. Congrats on the new gig! And, oh yeah. Andrews Sisters! Love 'em!
