If you find yourself unable to decide which of these great premiums you want, and you are a person of means, a great thing to do is pledge $3000 - this will get you EVERY dj premium and a Day of Joy at WFMU to boot! :)

G:

"stochastic" is a term widely used in probability theory in math. in comes from Greek _stochos_ meaning target or aim. It means you are moving in the direction of something, not like with strict logic or an absolutely rigorous proof, but instead by trying to move in the approximate direction in order to make a gradual approach to a desired goal.

i'm more of a fan of combinatorics, mathematically :)
Avatar 3:55pm

a little quick to agree there, Skirkie :/

Statistically, nothing is "provable" (ie:100%). Stochastically, everything is nothing but probabilities.

@fred lol well I'm just a serial pledger :) Lots of folks give more. Hopefully all give what they can whether it's in a bunch o'pledges or all in one shot :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
G:

within a close system of fixed terms (e.g., euclidean geometry), things are provable -- but only within that system.

the external world is more complex and multifactorial, and everything is stochastic. otherwise, we'd have all arrived at and agreed on the right answers about everything already, and that is manifestly not the case :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
G:

close s/b closed, duh

The ninth interview (5 weeks ago), came off really positive. But, they said it was up to the HR dept (of the NYC Office of Emergency Management) to draw up the contract, etc. I just got nervous b/c of the wait. (even though my previous gov't jobs had similar waits.)

Cool, Mike, I'll need to get my embouchure back into shape beforehand, but I'd love the chance to play again. Also, once I have a paycheck again, do you know of a good place to get my spit valve fixed?

Working, but here to mention that FWIW a fun progrock fact -- namely, that Prokofiev is Rick Wakeman's role model composer (he wrote about him in college). In recent years, he's taken to playing an Eleanor Rigby/Prokofiev mashup during his solo shows.

I miss the days when I could mix in Bach, Lightning Bolt, Richie Hawtin, Mandarin language tapes, Fairport, Xenakis, and jungle mixtapes in the same dj set, and do better then break even in NYC (and make enough $ to support myself through grad school).
