the thing about "Starry Eyes" is while it's admittedly "safe" I can't imagine doing a power pop show without including it.

Ending on a very Pidgetastic note with Britny Fox.

And as always, the winner in these throwdowns is: US listeners!
Thanks EFD and Clay! Awesome, euphoric selections of powerful power pop!

The only problem with "Starry Eyes" is that now I have to listen to about 10 other Records songs before I do anything else. There are worse problems to have! Great job guys!

Executive Summary:
CP fancies himself in the same league as EFD, throwdown ensues. 12-string Rickenbackers used often by both sides. Clay stumbles over prog and hair metal heritage, EFD turns in fab survey of Power Pop. Announcer reminds us this was an exhibition, not a competition, and not to try this at home with your father's records.

Holly in NC:

Hm. Clay's definition of power pop ends up being somewhat too fluid, & while efd was mostly far too conservative.. Pastiche. And Shivvers.
Cheap Trick alone not enough to counter.

efd wins this round, a rematch will be excellent!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Clay & efd!

Hmm, love both final tracks, but Fox got me more revved up. Point for Clay. Can't be bothered to tally up my totals, because that's not the point anyway. Just happy this show happened!

Clay's lack of irony is actual kryptonite to bad guys.

It would be interesting to hear efd fill three hours of Power Pop by himself - that might meet both my & Caryn's criteria. Clay is just such a great personality though - makes it interesting...

I like that the power pop you are playing is like it was back in the day - bands dedicated to pure pop, bands accidentally making power pop, and bands who just really liked a hook.

Everyone's definition of pop differs. Viva l'difference. But I think "Talk Dirty to Me" is a great power pop single, so what do I know?

Great show youse guys. And you're both older than me hahahahahha. (not by much)

Hell, I think Devo are power-pop.

I submit that power pop started with Buddy Holly, and Bobby Fuller was the first true power pop artist.

nope, the first Plimsouls came out on Planet Records in 1981. It's actually a little underproduced compared to the one that followed. they had an EP before that, too.
