Hey hey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Andrew Waterloo:

Mornin' been awhile since I made it in early enough for Hipnosis.
  9:07am alan:

This sunday is the birthday of John Tchicai. Unfortunately, he passed away in October. Maybe you can play something by him as a birthday present to us!
Avatar 9:07am Cheri Pi:

heya Scott & Ahdrew!
Avatar 9:08am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the usual: listening while I can...earnin' money is a fulltime job...
Avatar 9:08am braveness23:

<clicks heels> B23 here!
  9:10am common:

that's great! David Grubbs. I always wondered about the lyrics on what I think is the first gastr del sol record. Something about bellows. Good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Andrew Waterloo:

Hello Cheri Pi, RRN63, b23, and common
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am DCE:

hey guys!
Avatar 9:13am Rev. Turnip Druid:

'morning troops.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am fred:

Good morning Scott. Seconding what Alan said. David Grubbs was responsible for one sparkling gig experience: playing outside my fave venue then moving inside. I haven't seen him a lot, but he managed to make it immediately real every single time. And I have the utmost respect for him for that, for him
Avatar 9:13am Cheri Pi:

yeah!!!!!!!! RTD!
  9:13am common:

mornin andrew and all!
Avatar 9:15am Rev. Turnip Druid:

That mention of Bastro took me back... I know I'd seen 'em at least once (25ish years ago?) here in DC. Can't recall the venue. DC Space maybe? I just remember being stupidly happy for a long time.
  9:15am common:

thanks for the june of 44, scott. one of my favorite birthdays was when my band opened for them in Canada in 96.

Hi to all of yous!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am ausmanx:

evening, all. rolling on to midnight in the antipodes, time for a cup of tea before i finish my shift. anyone like a cup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am fred:

@RTD: being stupidly happy for a long time looks like a life plan I should investigate
Avatar 9:17am Rev. Turnip Druid:

@fred: it's good work if you can get it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am fred:

@ausmanx: I'm awfully demanding about tea, but I'll join you, company trumps all when quality is at stake
Avatar 9:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...virtual cuppa:
...reality for me will be decent coffee on the fly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am ausmanx:

the French ARE demanding about tea, Fred (my partner is Parisienne) whereas the English, paradoxically, generally undiscriminating
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am fred:

@ausmanx: don't get me started about the damage the English did to tea. Then again, more of the good stuff for us, so maybe I should thank them instead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am fred:

This (Body/Head) is great
  9:33am dwayneweed:

And now the migraine starts. Thanks to the Long Rally!
Avatar 9:34am Cheri Pi:

what fred said. Fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am fred:

I guess I shouldn't be this assertive, rather be respectful of different opinions, but Body/Head is just great, and fuck you if you disagree
Avatar 9:36am Chris from DC:

What's the background music here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am fred:

Avatar 9:38am Chris from DC:

Yeah that Nate Wooley sounds interesting. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am fred:

@Chris from DC: see him live, he's amazing, really. Meaning maybe it won't work that day, take that chance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am barney.grubbs:

It's always nice to hear Grubbses that actually have musical talent. (I suspect that D Grubbs must be a semi-distant relative. my old man's a Kentucky grubbs, but from the paducah side of the state.)
Avatar 9:47am Chris from DC:

Oh I have Fred, just haven't heard him do anything quite so minimal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am tim from champaign:

Crap, missed the Body/Head. I'm really interested in hearing them.

Howdy all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am fred:

This Grubbs has something more than just talent, he has wisdom. He makes others better, like Joe McPhee does (that's amazing praise from me, Joe McPhee is a deity to me)
Avatar 9:53am Chris from DC:

Seeing Joe McPhee with Brotzmann in a few weeks, which should be amazing.
Avatar 9:53am βrian:

Looks like the 128 audio stream sneakily changed it's address.
Avatar 9:54am Cheri Pi:

splendid, this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Mike East:

just getting dressed, and guess what? I'm wearing a WFMU tshirt. Does everybody else spend more than half their waking hours in fmu tees or do I just have a really small wardrobe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am barney.grubbs:

grubbses with wisdom are also good!
  9:57am bill:

ew, what's that clicking noise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Mike East:

those record pops made me think my turntable was on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am tim from champaign:

Sounds like a good show, Chris. Brotzmann is an intimidating figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Scott McDowell:

Yeah sorry bout that, record noise. Was way louder than I realized when I previewed that piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am fred:

@Mike East: I only have something like 30 WFMU tshirts, but they make people think'm a freak. Enjoy
@Chris from DC: That's the best I've ever seen Brotzmann, Joe McPhee just won't let him skate, and Brotzmann responds, it should be great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Mike East:

@Scott - I thought it sounded great. made me wish I had the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Mike East:

gotta fly your freak flag, fred
Avatar 10:06am braveness23:

Good lord, the amount of clucking going on out in my yard today is staggering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Julie:

ooooh my favorite Emmylou song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am DCE:

very good, carry on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am fred:

I do fly it, Mike. I just wish Islays got out of style, as in less expensive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Mike East:

@fred, I'm still rationing my xmas gift. my wife and I have become connoisseurs of the $10-$15 bottle of wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Mike East:

off to catch a bus. Later!
Avatar 10:18am Cheri Pi:

I live in my FMU shirts, they have their own drawer :)
Avatar 10:20am Cheri Pi:

so is all my booze??? unacceptable!!
Avatar 10:21am john:

Hey Tim, I'm going to be in CU this weekend. Anything interesting going on there that I should know about?
Avatar 10:23am john:

...ahhh, love the sound of scratchy vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am fred:

@Mike East: I just don't like wine, too much sugar. I'm rationing my own birthday gift, though you don't want to know how though that is
Avatar 10:23am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Irene Trudel:

Battle of Evermore! Love this tune. Great show so far Scott! Luckily I have a chance to listen to the whole thing today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am DCE:

well why not, right?
Avatar 10:26am Cheri Pi:

george jones has passed??!! ugh www.huffingtonpost.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Ike:

Bummer, Cheri Pi. I guess he stopped loving whoever today.
Avatar 10:28am holland oats:

what?!? no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am fred:

Irene!!! You're such a big part of why I'm a WFMU freak
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am tim from champaign:

Hey John, there's a gamelan performance on Sunday at 2 pm. cwm.illinois.edu...
I'm going for sure. Will you have wheels? If so, there's a new brewery called Tryptich that's pretty decent. It's located on the south end of town. There's also a running marathon which is fun for people watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am DCE:

aw man, I'm drinking to George tonight then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am maestroso:

Absolutely agree re the LZep folkie stuff, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Irene Trudel:

Aw shucks, Fred! I just do what I do.

Scott, Totally agreed on the folkier side of Led Zeppelin. III is actually my fave of their albums, and parts of VI still hold up for me. It's telling that Robert Plant has now gone mostly to the folky side on recent albums.
Avatar 10:34am john:

@Tim: Oh, right...the marathon. Always a good vibe. I think I will try to make that gamelan show, too. Maybe donning a WFMU shirt if I can remember to pack one. Thanks for the tips!
Avatar 10:35am braveness23:

Ditto on the LedZep folk stuff. Although I am also totally enthralled by early live footage. I heard that Robert Plant covered two Low songs on a recent album. Low was absolutely floored by it. I've been meaning to check that out but haven't gotten around to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Scott McDowell:

Irene! Thanks for checking in. Yeah I love Led Zep III. I can't say I've really kept up with Mr. Plant's career beyond the Allison Kraus record from a few year's ago.
Avatar 10:37am Cheri Pi:

I love when Scott busts out the witchy Led Zep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am tim from champaign:

@john, sounds good. I'll keep an eye out. I'm teetotalling at the moment otherwise you'd probably be able to find me enjoying Saturday afternoon beers at the Esquire.
  10:39am J-Mar:

Please do play some George Jones if you can work it in. Terry Riley and Don Cherry would want you to, I know it.
Avatar 10:41am john:

Right on, I've had good times at the Esquire. Back in the day, as they say. Maybe see you on Sunday then. Thanks again...
  10:41am leech:

This terry riley track just salvaged my day. Thanks.
  10:42am ?:

George Jones has died.
This sucks !
Please play some of his songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Ike:

Ah, yes, βrian@9:53 is correct. The 128k stream has a new address and my old Foobar bookmark didn't work. I was worried for a moment there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am fred:

@Irene: I love snow, but I usually get your premium in August. I save it for the white stuff. I have cherished memories of listening to your premium while crunching snow, to me it's the best way to listen to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Irene Trudel:

Thanks @Fred!That's a nice image to carry with me.
Avatar 10:52am braveness23:

A great set by Dave Grubbs!

  11:36am ginak:

Hey all, I just heard that country music icon George Jones has passed away.
Avatar 11:38am Chris from DC:

Wow, would love to catch that harmonium set.

in looking at the obits page I just saw that Cordell Mosson (longtime p-funk bassist) also died today. RIP Boogie . . .
Avatar 11:47am Roberto:

Instant tribute's gonna get you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Ike:

From the NYT obit: "'White Lightning,' a No. 1 country hit in 1959, required 83 takes because Mr. Jones was drinking through the session."
Avatar 11:49am braveness23:

Oy, nothing like capturing that feeling on the 83rd take
Avatar 11:51am Sean D. Daily:

Just because I hang out in my car in front of her house with the lights off and engine idling every night and there was that one time I broke into her house and sniffed all her lingerie and oh there was that one time I left a dead dog on her front porch, she thinks I still care...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am DCE:

George dirge?
Avatar 11:58am braveness23:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Ike:

That was a great segue from George Jones to a creepy drone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm DCE:

Thanks for playing the possum. What a great station!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm G:

Creepy in a good way!
Avatar 12:02pm Sean D. Daily:

President Obama doesn't think drones are creepy. He used to think drones were creepy. But not any more.
