Hi all. The homepage slogan that just came up for me is "When reality conflicts with what we believe, reality must be wrong." Funny, I thought that was everybody else *but* WFMU-land.

Chinese sounds good, szechuan peppers to the max.
Avatar 10:46am

tim: it's GOOD Chinese! I think they put opium in it.
Avatar 10:46am

Avatar 10:49am
dc pat:

it's Hunan Gate in Ballston. Pi, they have this bowl of chilli oil with lots of chillis floating in it at the end of the buffet. I just cover everything with it.
Avatar 10:49am
Cheri Pi:

hahahaha/ this track is making my dog's eyebrows go insane.
Avatar 10:50am
dc pat:

kind of hit and miss w/ veggie options though. when the tofu's out, things are good.
Avatar 10:53am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Christ, man, that chili oil sounds fine. I'm still languishing at this temp situation in Rosslyn, where options are scant when one has 30 minutes to score.
Avatar 10:54am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Sudden feral craving for a blackbean tofu with massive chili count.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
tim from champaign:

I had szechuan peppers for the first time last fall. I love that metallic numbing sensation.
Avatar 10:56am
dc pat:

yeah, Rosslyn is weird. Did you ever go into the Louisiana Restaurant they have there?? Like it's right out of the 70's or something. Really odd.
Avatar 10:56am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Really miss working within a 5 minute walk to Great Wall on 14th street (dc), it was the best I've had here in recent years.
Avatar 10:56am
Cheri Pi:

It's awesome innit Tim??? When they sprinkle that crushed Szech pepper on top, it's like opium. Black bean tofu: Drool.y
Avatar 11:01am
dc pat:

so it's settled, Chinese today....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am
barney.grubbs:

I've got the violent change lp and an old needle, so I think that explains it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
tim from champaign:

Yeah, there's a place in town called Golden Harbor that specializes in Taiwanese and Chinese. They have several dishes with a dry spice rub called malo with the crushed szechuan peppers. So good. They also have 1000 Year Old Eggs which are awesome.
Avatar 11:07am
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

We seriously need a "food" tag for playlist comments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Mike East:

speaking of chinese, I watched Kungfu Panda last night. I love that movie. Good morning to all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
tim from champaign:

Oh yeah, it's asparagus season around here so I'll have to hit up Golden Harbor for some Salt and Pepper Asparagus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
barney.grubbs:

dropping a "málà" when ordering the szechuan stuff often helps you get the good stuff (once you get the tones right).
Avatar 11:10am
dc pat:

well that skoal kodiak was sure catchy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am
Mike East:

@Kenzo - a fine idea. the fact that your comment was followed by a food based avatar is a sign. Make it so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
tim from champaign:

I'm only here for the food talk. I can't stand all the weirdo hippy punk crap music.
Avatar 11:14am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Someone email me a pillowcase fulla samosas dignibbit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Mike East:

@Rev. I was thinking this morning about making my own vegetable pakora. I feel like it can't be that hard.
Avatar 11:18am
dc pat:

<< That's what I'm going to be eating in 43 minutes.
Avatar 11:18am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Mike: we do it, not with homemade batter but with the lazy mix we find at the indian markets. And it's awesome. A bit of chili pickle and a mountain of cauliflower etc., good to go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Mike East:

I'm all about mixes. I just got a bucket of falafel mix at the new mideastern market that opened up by me. I'll have to check if they have pakora mix. good call.

@dcpat - just made me hungry.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am
Mike East:

@Carmichael - I had no idea what it was called, but I made that last week (Aloo Gobi, apparently)...just cuz I had some cauliflower and potatoes. I also added tempeh, which I marinated in the curry sauce first

DCE:

kids don't like anything but nuggets and fries. although I did get my 4 year old to try some of my homemade soup, and she even ate the green beans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
Mike East:

@DCE - we are slowly trying to change that...that particular dish was a bit too much of a leap. She's been taking baby steps, though. nuggets and fries are terrible for adults, let alone kids. Society does not make it easy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am

I tuned in during the bed music, and thought I over slept 24+ hours or something, until my brain realized that Jason must be filling in.
Avatar 11:57am
dc pat:

I dunno, I think it depends on what you get them use to. My kids eat tons of stuff but we don't give them any nuggets. No meat, so lots of veggies.
