To judge from her wardrobe, I'd say the gal in the gif is a moll, not a mom. All the same, a tad rough, given the nature of the day and all.
Avatar 7:06pm

Maybe she's a moll mom. Howdy, Monica!

When I or one of my brothers would say "Mom, I'm bored," she had this thing she would always say: "Why don't you go do something nice for somebody else?" She really knew how to make us regret saying anything in the first place.

my mother was a big fan of "jesus, mary, and joseph!" also of "shit, piss, and corruption!" but HER mother used to tell people who exasperated her, "go shit in your hat and punch it!" (wish i had some fcc-friendly examples, but mom's was the "deadwood" side of the family.)

My mom was and remains a doll, but cooking was always a necessary evil in her household. I'd ask what was for dinner and, upon finding a familiar but barely edible item on the menu, would groan, make a face, etc.. After a while, when asked about the evening meal, she'd say "Judy & Ebby & Tea & Baps." Really. And, smiling, she would return to her infernal preparations. This worked, in that it shut me up, if only by virtue of sheer unanswerability.

My mother was a horrendous cook. She could burn water. Meats were turned into charcoal. She'd serve dinner and look at us a la Nurse Ratchet and say, "EAT!" I always thought it was more of a threat, or maybe a dare, than an entreaty.

Avatar 8:17pm
deanland:

As I would stare at my mostly untouched plate in disgust and fear, my mother would offer up that old canard, "Children are starving in China" (although sometimes it was children in India) and I would think, "send them this food and they'd go from starving to dying." But wisely, for self preservation, I never said that aloud. I, too, did the food in a napkin trick, and wished we'd had a dog I could sneak the food to .. although even a dog might have refused such drek.
