good evening, djelbogen. can't listen for the first bit as i';m finishing the subtitles for a chinese martial arts film. the final showdown has the swordsmen fight inside a sand storm tornado...

It's ok, Aus. Catch you later. [although I've got a couple of jaw-dropping songs to play today--check out the archive]

i should be listening by 6.30. they've now found the entrance to the golden city... however, this subtitle has me stumped... "Two bowls of 'nun noodles'.
Excuse me Vegi may not be vegi." evening, Rabbit

Good morning, JE, Rev Rab and Ausmanx in the Antipodes. Funnily, the local country station doesn't play music from these countries.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...every Music is from *some* Country...just a different Twang from different Hills, I tells 'em...
Avatar 6:25am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Used to call R&B 'Race' Music...
Avatar 6:28am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'race' music: NASCAR ditties for goodol'boys??...
Avatar 6:28am
Jason Elbogen:

right. 'Race' music.
Avatar 6:30am
Jason Elbogen:

'Race' is problematic in the exact same way as 'Ethnic', of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30am
Sem Chumbo:

คนขี้ลืม เพลิน พรมแดน=The forgetful among border. From Google Translate, which spotted a misspelling in the track title, and offered several alternatives for each word.
Avatar 6:33am
Jason Elbogen:

thanks Sem... so it doesn't say the artist name, eh? Here's the song on Youtube (I couldn't figure out the artist on the Youtube 'video' either, though):
www.youtube.com...
Avatar 6:34am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Have heard it said that - technically, accurately - 'race' refers to the DNA situation, while 'ethnicity' refers to the Cultural situation. Obviously, these apply to *everyone*. It's *all* 'World' Music, baby.

damn, those Imperial concubines are pretty cute. but a bit ruthless...

JE the artist and track are identical:)

right, back with the audio now having had my cautionary moral about the evils of craving gold... none of that at FMU, thank god...
Avatar 6:44am

Sem-- I know; I didn't know which to put where, so I put both (so at least the listing is half right!)

speaking of Song Poem companies, you should check this out, done by the legendary Lucas Abela here in Sydney... it's wonderful (as was the launch party!) www.facebook.com...
Avatar 6:59am
Jason Elbogen:

aus--I'll definitely check it out, thanks.

Naive is a French word - so naiveté makes sense to me. Of course, I am partly French by race, if ethnically American : p ...French words ('buffet', for example?) entered English largely thru the Norman Conquests when the French ruled Britain for - *centuries*, no? This enriched & expanded the language - but yes the Upper Class spoke French to act 'superior'...Chaucer is noted as an early landmark example of the English lang. standing proudly on its' own again...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Song Poem Companies - seems to me a lot like Punk - just Punk DIY (DoItYourself) is when people figured out they didn't need them...
Avatar 7:24am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...posit (New Hampshire's own!) The Shaggs in between!...
Avatar 7:41am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you could say it's true 'Folk' music
- & I'm reminded of the story-telling quality of 'Country' music (that's a 'ThunkTank' Program - www.wfmu.org... - theme?)...
- Hell - this SongPoem Co. stuff is certainly more interesting than a misspent drunken evening @ the local karaoke...
Avatar 7:44am
ausmanx:

and this is worth a look... www.youtube.com...

- Thx ausmanx! Will watch that!
- It says something about the nature of Collaboration, too - & certainly a lot about the Music Industry as a Biz...hmm!...

I'm not sure I will be able to listen for long (I may have to listen to less interesting things for work)

ah, here's news, a very good friend of mine has just got the go ahead and funding to start on a feature-length doco about Cambodian Space Project, and he and the director have dug up all this amazing footage of Cambodian bands from the 1960s and 1970s...

Wow ausmanx!
Avatar 8:14am

FYI - it took the entirety of that nine minute Oscar Sulley track to figure out how to get that Cambodian cover up (in all it's unfortunately-oversized glory)!
