I thought the aliens were gone, but then they came back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am Andrew Waterloo:

Wow, I just got nostalgic for the first time I brought Pulp Fusion comp home.
Swag For Life Member 12:07am 12539:

Joe, I'm so glad your show is moving to a time when I won't fall asleep after Single File.
Avatar 12:12am Joe McG:

Thanks, 12539. It'll be nice to do a show where I don't fall asleep after Single File myself! I'm not exactly a night owl by nature.
Avatar 12:13am Holly in NC:

Greetings & lamentations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike lucky 12539, I will likely never hear Joe live again :-(
Happy for you Joe, miserable for myself.
Avatar 12:14am Joe McG:

Oh, no, Holly, I'm going to miss you terribly.
Swag For Life Member 12:15am 12539:

Holly, no schedule is permanent, so you never know. But for your sake I hope you can schedule archive listening around the times your housemate isn't hogging the bandwidth.
Avatar 12:17am Joe McG:

12539 makes a very valid point. Who knows where we'll end up? I might not be peppy enough for the mornings. Time will tell.
Avatar 12:18am davex:

Love the set, Joe. Good to hear you'll be in a slot better suited to you!
Avatar 12:19am Holly in NC:

Oh, fortunately I can (& will) download Joe's shows to phone so housemate not an impediment to enjoying Joe's fine musical selections - but still, it's not the same without the interaction. Will miss ALL friends :-)
Avatar 12:20am Joe McG:

Hey, davex! We'll see! I'm used to the laid-back Saturday nights, so we'll see how I adapt to the different vibe of a workday morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am fleep:

Yeah Joe, you'll be the Morning Guy! Traffic and weather, zany phone calls, funny voices ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, if you do it right you'll get a subservient female co-host
Avatar 12:23am Joe McG:

Yeah, I'm totally going to go for the Morning Zoo thing.
Avatar 12:24am Joe McG:

Actually, doing the traffic and weather sounds like a great idea. "And on the BQE, we have a 15 minute delay into the tunnel..."
Avatar 12:24am Holly in NC:

btw Meters are PERFECT right now
Avatar 12:24am davex:

Hey, just keep doing your own thing and you'll be fine.
Avatar 12:26am Joe McG:

Man, listen to Ziggy on the drums!
Avatar 12:28am Joe McG:

@Andrew: I have to find me one!
Avatar 12:31am Holly in NC:

I was hoping someone would feature Ziggy on Dave M's drummer special, but alas, he was not. Featured.
Swag For Life Member 12:32am 12539:

Wasn't there talk of two more drum specials, one on EFD's slot and one on Irwin's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am steve:

yow! that was some serious funk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am fleep:

They plan two more drummer specials so don't alas just yet.
Avatar 12:32am Joe McG:

@Holly: Well, those guys like drummers in their favorite genres, which makes sense. Give me a funky drummer any day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am steve:

am i correct that Brand New Girl has been Fabio's talkover music as of late?
Swag For Life Member 12:37am 12539:

Steve, that sounds right.
Avatar 12:42am Joe McG:

I think you're right, Steve! I didn't make the connection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Ike:

This has always seemed like a 9 a.m. to 12 noon program to me, so this scheduling makes 200% of all of the sense. I have trouble processing this show in this slot. Bryce used to be in this slot a long time ago. It's a very Bryce timing of nighting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Tome:

..love the funk,,,brooklyn memories early 70's,, before disco mostly killed it ,,, beegees had to make it "white" just like Elvis ,,, 20 years before that,,,
  12:47am Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Joe and all the listeners.
Avatar 12:48am Joe McG:

@Ike: I miss Bryce at night myself, but I've gotten used to him on Fridays and now I like him there a lot. Hey, Richard and Tome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Ike:

Yes yes, agreed, Joe re: Bryce on Fri. afternoons. That was just an example. Or something.
Avatar 12:53am Joe McG:

I've had a lot of people tell me this show would sound better in the daytime. I hope they're right, ha ha!
Avatar 12:54am davex:

And for us out here in more "exotic" time zones, you are all on at different times, anyway!
Avatar 12:55am Joe McG:

Where are you, davex?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am fleep:

Single File will be the wake up call here. We'll listen half live, half archive.
Avatar 12:55am davex:

Leipzig, Germany - nearly 7 a.m. here now.
Avatar 12:56am Joe McG:

@davex: Cool! So how DOES this show sound in the morning? @fleep: You must be west coast?
Avatar 12:59am Holly in NC:

Mutter mutter grinch grinch. Trying find personal bright side...there is *one* .. I'll be able to listen to Live from the Admiral, er, live.

Thomas's 6 am show is most misplaced on schedule, I think. For folks in Jersey time zone ;-)
Avatar 12:59am davex:

Great right now with stormy winds and birds chirping outside, actually. But then I've been up all night working, so I'm not sure if it counts.
Avatar 1:00am Holly in NC:

Hey @Steve, I just saw your kitty pics, lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am fleep:

Joe, yes, Los Angeles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am Julie:

oooh i love this...glockenspiel? or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am Matt from Springfield:

Good evening, Joe - among the last times I can say good evening to you in this time zone!

SO gonna miss your laid-back Saturday night freeform-FM show (disagree with Ike! ;) but best of luck during the daytime--pretend that you're Ken, or Trouble, and pick up that kind of vibe!
Avatar 1:13am davex:

...counts as morning for me, that is. That sounded funny before. But it still sounds great...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Julie! Glockenspiel? Maybe. Sounds like a whole variety of percussion, with bells, drums, "pots", synth percussion too.
Avatar 1:14am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! I hope you'll be able to check in on the daytime at least once in awhile!
Avatar 1:17am Holly in NC:

Hi Matt, fellow listener-in-exile to be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Matt from Springfield:

I'll try to at least ship in a comment every Thursday I can! Kenzo's working on my streaming problem at work--hope that can get resolved, and listen to Single Files live!
Avatar 1:18am davex:

This is an amazing cover!
Avatar 1:18am Joe McG:

@Matt: Hope so! Do try!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Holly! At least with my job I have a computer to look at during working hours, as long as I'm at my desk. I'll miss you on the board as well, but Kenzo can probably take this Archive and mail it to wherever you're at! ;)
Avatar 1:19am Holly in NC:

@davex - agreed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Matt from Springfield:

Hi davex! Agree, I love this cover too, I don't have that premium of Scott's, but I've heard someone play it on FMU before--lovely.
Avatar 1:20am davex:

Hey Matt - what is your streaming problem?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Julie:

Joe will be on past my bedtime now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Julie:

this sounds like put a little love in your heart
Avatar 1:24am Joe McG:

It DOES, Julie! Hoyt Axton, that thief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Matt from Springfield:

@davex: It's a really tough case, at my previous workplace I could stay ahead of the network admin people, but here they're smart and locked out outside streams pretty good. My Pop-Up Player opens, but it doesn't play the sound. Whereas the Archive Pop-Ups, which have PHP code in their address, DO open and DO play the sound. Well maybe it's appropriate--since I work on tough cases, a tough case has been presented to me! ;)
Avatar 1:25am Joe McG:

@JUlie: And this song sounds a lot like "Me About You" by the Turtles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am Julie:

I think I only know the one Turtles song
Avatar 1:26am davex:

Matt: I guess it is tough if you have the admin people trying to foil your efforts. And I suppose smart phones, etc. aren't a solution then?

Holly: Are you in a similar situation?
Swag For Life Member 1:30am 12539:

Matt, would they let you bring in an internet radio, or would they block that too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Matt from Springfield:

Dig the name, "Hydro Electric Streetcar"!

@davex: Unfortunately not where I work (also...I would have to own a smartphone first! My phone is pretty dumb! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Matt from Springfield:

@12539: They would probably let me take in that kind of device--but not plug it into their network connections! Also they use "thin client" computer boxes, without such workarounds as QuickTime installed on them.
Swag For Life Member 1:33am Lonely Planet Boy:

Spider sounded sorta like Leon Russell, to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Julie:

You love shoes? you're such a girl, joe
Avatar 1:34am Holly in NC:

@davex - no, my problems are quite different. 9am-noon of day I'm usually working with kids sans media access (very purposeful) - and if not, I'm probably asleep ;-)
My preferrred sleep time = 5am - noon. I'm a self-employed freak!
Avatar 1:37am Joe McG:

@Julie: I have at least four pair. @Holly: Get up at 11:30 on Thursdays and say hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: But he doesn't even have a closet for them! Joe keeps all his Shoes at the foot of his bed, just like all his records! ;)
Power poppish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am fleep:

That must be one huge bed.
Avatar 1:38am davex:

@Holly: That would make it more difficult, of course! I'm currently on a similar self-employed and self-inflicted schedule myself, so I understand that too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Julie:

I didn't like the BCR's when I was little, but I sure do now
Avatar 1:41am Holly in NC:

Nick Lowe is singing to me ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Julie:

actually, not sure I heard them when I was that little, were they around much later?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am fleep:

That's some mad cymbal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Matt from Springfield:

Bay City Rollers, now appearing at your local Queens pub!
@Julie: I didn't like Abba until I was an adult, people grow up! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am Matt from Springfield:

Del-Vikings! Good arrangements and sax on this one!
Avatar 1:46am Joe McG:

@fleep: Nice avatar change! @Matt: Very Coasters-ish, I think!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, it had some edge to it, like a Coasters record!
Swag For Life Member 1:48am 12539:

This is the most Unmachitoish Machito song I have ever heard.
Avatar 1:48am Joe McG:

@12539: You said it! I'm wondering if he's even on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Matt from Springfield:

Wow, 80s recording of Sandie Shaw. Interesting choice of song too, a Bacharach-David one Dionne originally sang, as Sandie originally sang "Always Something There To Remind Me". Why the British Electric Foundation???
Avatar 1:58am Joe McG:

@Matt: Some kind of collective involving Martin Ware from the Human League! Mighty unfortunate saxophone solo on that record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am Matt from Springfield:

Martin Ware, huh!
Re: sax solo, keep in mind that the success of "Baker Street" launched a slew of token sax solos for the next decade, some of them good, a lot of them not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am G:

that solo was saxual harassment :p
Avatar 2:05am Brian in UK:

Mornin' Joe 'n time travellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Matt from Springfield:

@G: And that's faxual! :p

Mornin' Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am G:

just the sax, maa'am, just the sax
Avatar 2:09am Brian in UK:

Hi Matt. Beautiful sunny day here for a change.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am Julie:

Ajda totally fangirled over Ira Kaplan today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am Matt from Springfield:

Black Fangirl of YLT Opium!
Avatar 2:15am Joe McG:

Hey, Brian! @G: Thanks for making me laugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Julie:

I took two photos of them together and her eyes were closed in both :( fail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am Matt from Springfield:

I think it was a "stand up faint"! :p
Avatar 2:19am Joe McG:

@Julie: Well, you have to admit, he's pretty dreamy.
Avatar 2:20am Holly in NC:

@Matt (& everyone) one of best links ever : 80's sax solos, by year, all playable !! xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am Julie:

wow this is really mellow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am Julie:

oh! it's a Q band :)
Avatar 2:23am Joe McG:

@Holly: Wow, I want to play all of these on a bad saxophone special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Holly! That was the list someone posted earlier! Better start playing and checking off the ones I haven't heard yet! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am Julie:

Joe McGasko's Saxy Show
Avatar 2:25am Holly in NC:

Just for the record, I LOVE Baker Street.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am Julie:

oh man good luck googling a band called "queens"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am Matt from Springfield:

Yes, so mellow, so nighttime, such great New Bin items--do fill in for midnights, at least sometimes, Joe!
Avatar 2:26am Joe McG:

@Julie: ha ha! @Holly: Actually, I do, too. And those Roxy Music songs don't have bad sax, in my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am Julie:

Bad sax is like pizza, it's better than no sax
Avatar 2:28am Joe McG:

@Matt: That's a thought! Two in the morning is made for records like these.
Avatar 2:30am Brian in UK:

ENOs what he's talking about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: It sure is! Thanks for the consideration! :)
Avatar 2:32am Joe McG:

@Brian: Oy!
  2:33am Dunc:

When time overwhelms us at breakneck speed, music rips the fabric of time. A boulder in the river to be amazed at for the complexity of simplicity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am Matt from Springfield:

Beautiful philosophy, Dunc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am Julie:

that's way over my head at 230 am
Avatar 2:37am Joe McG:

The cool thing about what we're listening to now is that the whole thing was completely improvised.
Avatar 2:37am Brian in UK:

Bird noises seem popular on this station. Ever heard a nighingale?
  2:40am Dunc:

In the beginning everything was improvised
Avatar 2:41am Joe McG:

Everything still is!
Avatar 2:42am Brian in UK:

Nice one, Joe. Might 'see' a bit more of you in real time in future.
Avatar 2:44am Joe McG:

@Brian: Ah yes, not quite so break of dawn-ish.
  2:44am Dunc:

Does that mean that everything in the beginning was cool? I think most certainly that the answer is hell yeah!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am fleep:

The "Ring of Fire" earwom lasted two days. Bursting into the chorus out loud at random. This is an excellent change of pace.
Avatar 2:46am Mark:

First time posting, just checking to see if I have a red heart next to my name.
Avatar 2:47am Joe McG:

@fleep: Yes, sorry about that. I couldn't control it once it started.
Avatar 2:47am marksaot:

:_ (
Avatar 2:48am Joe McG:

@Mark: It sometimes takes a bit to show up, don't be discouraged. Drop me an e-mail at jmcgasko@wfmu.org and I'll forward it to the person who gives out the hearts.
Avatar 2:52am marksaot:

This is great (just like the music), just sent the email. I feel like I've found a toy car in a box of cereal. Love the music.
Avatar 2:53am Joe McG:

Cool. It may take a few days, but don't worry, we'll get you one! Glad you found us!
  2:55am Holly in NC:

See you here next week this time, correct, Joe?
Avatar 2:56am Joe McG:

Yes, indeed, Holly! (sniff!) I hope everyone has a great week, and thanks for listening!
Avatar 2:57am marksaot:

Thanks you, I look forward to it. Been a listener to Best Show, Night People, TMI for years, just have never dove in to the site. Night Holly, peace out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks as always for spinning, Joe! Wonderful episode!
Have a great night/morning/rest of weekend, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58am fleep:

Thanks, Joe!
