Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from June 4, 2013 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Marshall Allen, Danny Ray Thompson, Charles Cohen, Ed Wilcox, Jerry Mayall  Live in the WFMU studio   Favoriting Engineered by Juan Aboites    Two legends of Sun Ra's Arkestra performing today live! A visit to Brian's show from Marshall Allen (alto sax) and Danny Ray Thompson (baritone sax) from the Arkestra, joined by Ed Wilcox on drums and vocals, Jerry Mayall (both longtime members of Temple of Bon Matin) on upright bass, plus electronic music pioneer Charles Cohen. This newly-expanded, active working band has evolved out of Wilcox's five European tours with Allen, and we're severely honored to have them make music in the WFMU studios at last! This is part one of the marathon live session, to be continued next week!    1:22:31 (Pop-up)

I saw the arkestra about a dozen times in the 70's and 80's with Sun Ra and a couple of times more recently with Marshall leading. This concert rates right up there with the best of those. I did not know about Charles Cohen before - man, he's great. Outstanding, all!
