So is MBV playing Nassau Coliseum?
Avatar 12:21am
Therese:

The Nassau Coliseum still exists?
Avatar 12:24am
BadGuyZero:

MBV is playing six cities in the US: Austin, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I'm going to 66.6% of those shows. *hee!*
Avatar 12:24am
Droll:

I've never heard sexy talk like this. Your butt is the dice? What's a "99"?
Avatar 12:28am
_crazyandy_______________________________:

What's MBV got against the east? Or did they do a leg already?
Avatar 12:36am
BadGuyZero:

MBV's touring pattern the past few years has been to play a bunch of international festivals, play a handful of shows in the US, play some headlining shows in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand then head back to the US for a handful of shows.

They had previously announced that they would be closing out Fuck Yeah Fest in LA so that's likely why they're hitting the West Coast and the Southern Midwest. I'm sure they'll be visiting the East Coast early next year.

They're very stringent about backline and PA specs. Plus they play venues where they can play at ear-shattering volume without the likelihood of people filing noise complaints against them/the venue. All that limits the number of venues they could potentially play.

whoa I started two players by mistake and was hearing some really cool double-voiced therese, I highly recommend it
Avatar 12:38am
Julie:

with a special appearance by Amedeo?
Avatar 12:39am
BadGuyZero:

I've done that before, Julie. It makes it sound like they're using Wolfman Jack levels of reverb.
Avatar 12:39am
_crazyandy_______________________________:

Ah, that would make sense then. Seems like they'd play an amazing show.

next year?? Who knows when that's going to be

Come down to Austin, Julie. We can meet up at the show then have fun yelling at each other afterwards.

@bob in dc/va who saw the bats: that's awesome! going to have to look and see about midwest shows...
  1:08am
KP:

Therese, did you mention the sun ra show previous to announcement?
Avatar 1:09am
Therese:

I did, which was a complete coincidence.
  1:10am
KP:

Or ESPN!
Avatar 1:11am
BadGuyZero:

Later on when we're going to the archives so we can hear Francoise pronounce "oranges" again we'll have to revisit the October 1, 2012 show [live set from The Everymen!].

I think from what I saw on Wikipedia there were some worse things that happened in the GOT book than in the show and vice / versa. As sad as I was to hear about Maxwell's, it's awesome to see Todd in the main stream media. He's got a good perspective... always good to go out on top.

"Mah Nà Mah Nà" was written by Piero Umiliani... Giorgio Moroder released a version in 1968, as part of the album Giorgio. - Wikipedia

I just had to look that up, it was too good to be true!

The Portland duo (also very good band) spells it Menomena.

Looks like they only released one 7-inch [a song called "Theta" is on the b-side]. "Morning Bird" appears on a 2003 compilation of "junk shop glam ravers" called Velvet Tinmine. Hmm...guess I'll have to check out some of the other acts on that comp.

Does Kenzo have a suggestion box?
Avatar 2:25am

There's a great Nilsson boxed set coming out next month. I'll probably break my moratorium on buying new CDs to get it since I don't already have Nilsson's stuff on CD.

Avatar 2:33am

Gleason was also the great one
Avatar 2:34am

The Nilsson box looks worth it just for the 3 outtake discs. 5 Monkees demos!

All this Amedo gatecrashing is really great radio.
Avatar 2:39am
BadGuyZero:

The Monkees demos are great! I acquired a bootleg of them a few years ago.
Avatar 2:43am
BadGuyZero:

That demo session is noted in Andrew Sandoval's book about The Monkees:

After this crew clears out, Harry Nilsson enters the studio to record a private demo session for Chip Douglas. In 1965, Nilsson wrote "This Could Be The Night" for Douglas's group MFQ [Modern Folk Quartet]. Though they recorded it with producer Phil Spector, who featured it in the 1966 movie The Big T.N.T. Show, the song remains unissued on record and Nilsson's songwriting prowess is still relatively unknown.

At Douglas's behest, Nilsson today tapes more than ten potential songs for The Monkees to record, including "This Could Be The Night," "Cuddly Toy," "The Story Of Rock And Roll," and "Good Times." The composer just happens to be at RCA studios today to begin recording sessions for his own album, Pandemonium Shadow Show. As it turns out, Nilsson will have a long and varied association with The Monkees.

Have a great week, Therese! Congrats again for holding down this slot on the summer schedule. See you here next time.
