Good evening, Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am Therese:

Hullo, BGZ!
Avatar 12:06am KP:

Hi, Therese. Great already
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am Therese:

Thanks, KP!
Avatar 12:13am slocker:

Oh yeah. Let's get this party started.
Avatar 12:16am _crazyandy_______________________________:

RAM is great music. Poop to the haters.
Avatar 12:19am KP:

So is MBV playing Nassau Coliseum?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Therese:

The Nassau Coliseum still exists?
Avatar 12:24am BadGuyZero:

MBV is playing six cities in the US: Austin, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I'm going to 66.6% of those shows. *hee!*
Avatar 12:24am Droll:

I've never heard sexy talk like this. Your butt is the dice? What's a "99"?
Avatar 12:28am _crazyandy_______________________________:

What's MBV got against the east? Or did they do a leg already?
Avatar 12:36am BadGuyZero:

MBV's touring pattern the past few years has been to play a bunch of international festivals, play a handful of shows in the US, play some headlining shows in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand then head back to the US for a handful of shows.

They had previously announced that they would be closing out Fuck Yeah Fest in LA so that's likely why they're hitting the West Coast and the Southern Midwest. I'm sure they'll be visiting the East Coast early next year.

They're very stringent about backline and PA specs. Plus they play venues where they can play at ear-shattering volume without the likelihood of people filing noise complaints against them/the venue. All that limits the number of venues they could potentially play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Julie:

whoa I started two players by mistake and was hearing some really cool double-voiced therese, I highly recommend it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Julie:

with a special appearance by Amedeo?
Avatar 12:39am BadGuyZero:

I've done that before, Julie. It makes it sound like they're using Wolfman Jack levels of reverb.
Avatar 12:39am _crazyandy_______________________________:

Ah, that would make sense then. Seems like they'd play an amazing show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am Julie:

next year?? Who knows when that's going to be
Avatar 12:43am BadGuyZero:

Come down to Austin, Julie. We can meet up at the show then have fun yelling at each other afterwards.
  12:45am tinkle bear:

bats bats bats bats!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Julie:

i have a new great-niece in Austin, might be worth the trip
12:51am Bob in DC and/or VA:

The Bats! They did an amazing show in DC the other night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am Julie:

there is something about Francoise singing in english that really pleases me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Julie:

Sophia!! You got the RSD single!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am Therese:

Julie- I love how she pronounces "oranges"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Julie:

speaking of pronouncing: "pastles" don't ask me why (and daniel will confirm this)
Avatar 1:03am listener mark:

Good morning or good evening or good afternoon. Is it officially June 10th, summer schedule?
  1:04am tinkle bear:

@bob in dc/va who saw the bats: that's awesome! going to have to look and see about midwest shows...
  1:08am KP:

Therese, did you mention the sun ra show previous to announcement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Therese:

I did, which was a complete coincidence.
  1:10am KP:

Avatar 1:11am BadGuyZero:

Later on when we're going to the archives so we can hear Francoise pronounce "oranges" again we'll have to revisit the October 1, 2012 show [live set from The Everymen!].
Avatar 1:12am slocker:

I think from what I saw on Wikipedia there were some worse things that happened in the GOT book than in the show and vice / versa. As sad as I was to hear about Maxwell's, it's awesome to see Todd in the main stream media. He's got a good perspective... always good to go out on top.
  1:19am KP:

Was tonight the Red Honeymoon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Tome:

hi Therese , Hi Kiddles Great show ,, and again glad you still here same time same station through the summer and beyond! .......
  1:39am Limahl:

You rang?
Avatar 1:41am Droll:

"Mah Nà Mah Nà" was written by Piero Umiliani... Giorgio Moroder released a version in 1968, as part of the album Giorgio. - Wikipedia

I just had to look that up, it was too good to be true!

The Portland duo (also very good band) spells it Menomena.
  1:43am Tinnitus:

I rang?
Avatar 1:45am BadGuyZero:

Hooray for Therese staying in the 12a-3a ET Sunday slot!
1:47am Bob in DC and/or VA:

So thrilled you're staying, Therese, even though this show is totally responsible for me being a sleepless zombie at work every Monday.
Avatar 2:01am Kurt Gottschalk:

just checking in. everything under control then? ok, very good. goodnight.
Avatar 2:02am Hoboken Jack:

Hmm, maybe the 400th time i see that cheapo "best of the Cowsills" CD, i WILL pick it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am G:

Eastern Nightlight Time, ffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am G:

He's already got Hocus Pocus cued up
Avatar 2:09am BadGuyZero:

Is it just me, or is this very McCartney-esque?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am Therese:

BGZ- amEdeo and I were just discussing that!
Avatar 2:15am BadGuyZero:

Looks like they only released one 7-inch [a song called "Theta" is on the b-side]. "Morning Bird" appears on a 2003 compilation of "junk shop glam ravers" called Velvet Tinmine. Hmm...guess I'll have to check out some of the other acts on that comp.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am G:

Portuguese lyrics with "Made in Brazil" in it. :-) He's having fun -- in Brazil, things say "Industria Brasileira" on them. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Julie:

I love this Emily stuff, this reminds me of Abba
Avatar 2:19am BadGuyZero:

Emily reminds me of Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am G:

Alone Again, Emily
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Therese:

Why doesn't this board have a Like button?
Avatar 2:22am BadGuyZero:

Does Kenzo have a suggestion box?
Avatar 2:25am BadGuyZero:

There's a great Nilsson boxed set coming out next month. I'll probably break my moratorium on buying new CDs to get it since I don't already have Nilsson's stuff on CD.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am G:

@BGZ 2:22: And if he did, could you star it?
Avatar 2:27am BadGuyZero:

@G: That would probably be a prerequisite for leaving a suggestion.
  2:31am GM:

Wayne Gretzky of hockey fame...
Avatar 2:33am BadGuyZero:

Wayne Gretzky was "The Great One,"

Muhammad Ali was "The Greatest."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am G:

that sounds disturbing :p
  2:33am GM:

Gleason was also called the Great One...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am Julie:

Gleason was also the great one
Avatar 2:34am Droll:

The Nilsson box looks worth it just for the 3 outtake discs. 5 Monkees demos!

All this Amedo gatecrashing is really great radio.
Avatar 2:39am BadGuyZero:

The Monkees demos are great! I acquired a bootleg of them a few years ago.
Avatar 2:43am BadGuyZero:

That demo session is noted in Andrew Sandoval's book about The Monkees:

After this crew clears out, Harry Nilsson enters the studio to record a private demo session for Chip Douglas. In 1965, Nilsson wrote "This Could Be The Night" for Douglas's group MFQ [Modern Folk Quartet]. Though they recorded it with producer Phil Spector, who featured it in the 1966 movie The Big T.N.T. Show, the song remains unissued on record and Nilsson's songwriting prowess is still relatively unknown.

At Douglas's behest, Nilsson today tapes more than ten potential songs for The Monkees to record, including "This Could Be The Night," "Cuddly Toy," "The Story Of Rock And Roll," and "Good Times." The composer just happens to be at RCA studios today to begin recording sessions for his own album, Pandemonium Shadow Show. As it turns out, Nilsson will have a long and varied association with The Monkees.
Avatar 2:59am BadGuyZero:

Have a great week, Therese! Congrats again for holding down this slot on the summer schedule. See you here next time.
