Max Branigan  Miss You Lady Bug   Favoriting   Max Branigan  2013  WAV  Upon hearing about the call for songs I hopped in the car and tried to record some big bug sounds in the south orange reservation, not that far from Jersey City. Sadly, all I could really find was an absence of noise, most of the lil guys are dead near me. So I recorded my attempts to hear them and subsequent failure to do so. During the process I was moved by all the cicadas squashed on the road, so I went back home and recorded this love song from one deceased cicada to another. I sing about pharaoh in it because I heard on some radio show that one species of cicada makes a distinctive "pharrrraooooh" sound.  1:02:35 (Pop-up)
Francisco López  Cicada Cambodia   Favoriting   Francisco López  2013  WAV    1:04:45 (Pop-up)
Heather McIntosh and bugs  Taiwanese Bug Party with Bass   Favoriting   Heather McIntosh  2013  WAV  I recently went to China and Taiwan with a band called Azure Ray and had the chance to ride around on scooters from Hualien through the Taroko National Park. Wow. Fun. I try to bring my trusty field recorder on most of my trips. These are some bug friends I recorded while we were on our adventure. These little guys were making such a racket, I knew I was going to want to do something with them. I decided to add a little bass to the bugs  1:06:50 (Pop-up)

Henry Lowengard  Cicada's Truth   Favoriting   Henry Lowengard  2013  WAV  I more of less forgot about your call for cicadas until I was surrounded by them this afternoon in Sojourner Truth Park in my hometown, Kingston NY. Since I'm big on spectral music, I took the sample I recorded and ran it through Spear, cleaned it out, and started pulling the top, broad band of noise down (at about 5200Hz+/-1750Hz) and leaving the lower band (1350Hz+/-350Hz) alone and then I stretched and thinned it out, and added a few hand drawn partials. Then I turned it into stereo and eq'ed the channels with different curves. A peek at the spectrum shows how I cleaned up the sound in Spear and pulled and slimmed the top band (which I have a hard time hearing, but I know it's there), and pulled out the bottom band. I was going to do something with the slow pulses of wideband high frequency noise, but maybe some other time.  1:27:28 (Pop-up)

Just spilled some naga jolokia sauce on my leg, in my attempt to prepare a snack of crackers and garlic herbal goat cheese and aforementioned sauce.

NGH-I had NJ sauce in my eye at 10:40 am this morning in a similar potato chip incident.

Yeegods, Cheri Pi, that's gotta keep ya busy for a good half hour. My eyes have gained some tolerance to other chilies ( I don't wear gloves any more when cutting chilies), but naga jolokia sauce in the eye, one would prefer death!

My eye was already irritated from sunscreen so it only burnt like tabasco, not pleasant-but not unknown. 30 minutes was about right.

@Rev Rabbit: No, it didn't burn, but it was perilously close to a mosquito bit, which would have been unpleasant.

well, I just got bit by a mosquito, the hell!

Since the restaurant closed downstairs, they left some buckets that have become breeding grounds for mosquitos. I need to enlist my neighbor to help me go down the fire escape so I can turn over the buckets, and lower the ladder so I can get back up.

Have 2 mosquito bites on the sole of my foot. Fine now, but itch like hell when I put shoes and socks on. Not as bad as the bite on my arm, though. A few days ago, that bite was big and covered in vesicles. Now it's crusted over. Ugh.

Same here, I have one on my Achilles, and one on my heel. I usually don't swell, but these bites are very swollen (and I don't scratch). I usually don't get bitten in NYC, as mosquitoes find me less palatable then those around me.
