Kronos used to do a pretty cool version of that Hendrix tune as an encore
Avatar 👻 3:18pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Great to hear that MAN track. Haven't played that LP in a basket of years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

! - know Kronos' 'PurpleHaze' - they 'get it' more than untold #s of guitarists, of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- is this not the one for which George Clinton told Eddie Hazel to play like his mother had just died?...

Headphone heaven!! ,,, only wish I had my K240's .....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
fred:

@RevRab: I never heard them do that one live, sadly. But the introduction banter for Star Spangled Banner was usually pretty entertaining too. David Harrington is a fine speaker

True 'nuff, Fabio...
I used to visit a good friend in the neighborhood around the Kings Highway bkln train station, mid-80s: July 4th in that 'hood was like goddamned Beirut: kids on the rooftops shooting fireworks down into the street at people. Nuts.

Here in DC, we have the typical tribes of feral kids exploding the sidewalks. But not usually until evening...
Avatar 3:36pm
sFrances from VA:

I enjoyed the July 4th Rock Against Reagan shows in DC circa 1980-1983, and Johnny Cash on the Mall in 1976/Bicentennial. Other than that, feh

- 'technically' Hendrix & the 'Gypsy Suns & Rainbows' @ Woodstock (predating 'Band of Gypsies')...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Sun' singular if I'm gonna be pedantic - might as well be accurate...
Avatar 👻 3:42pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

aye, sFfromVA: RAR shows were a must. Good times.
Avatar 3:46pm
Fabio:

The liner says Hendrix & Mitch Mitchell played on that track, which is basically The Experience minus Noel Redding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - Mitch, & other people w/ whom there was too little rehearsal...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- this is not the 'happy cosmic' Shepp I know him for. Killer!
Avatar 3:52pm

Beersies and whatever fireworks I can see/hear from my balcony here. No mall, no metro, no way.

We can see the 'splodies on the national mall from our back deck, but NO EFFING WAY. The air is nasty. "Summer is a bummer." - Neil

Avatar 3:57pm

There is a small regional race car track near our house and on the 4th you can hear the cars roaring right about now. Then fireworks shoot off from there later.

My 4th started out as a bummer, but then I watched Miyazaki's "The Cat Returns," a delightful flick that cheered me right up. And now Fabio is on, yay!

I'm about 1/3 through Howl's Moving Castle, the work on that one is worth stopping and repeating now and then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
fred:

Polanski showed up at work a few weeks ago, so I guess there will be some weird voices in his next movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Ike:

Fleep, surprisingly, Howl's Moving Castle disappointed me a bit, but the original book by Diana Wynne Jones was a mind-blowing classic from my childhood so maybe it was hard to measure up to that. The ending seems abrupt, too. Other than that, Miyazaki never disappoints.
