You are beautiful.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am Doug Schulkind:

Top of the evening to you, ausmanx! Tonight's show is for the unfulfilled promise in all of us, as in the legendary Drungo LaRue Hazewood, a beloved never-quite-made-it baseballer who just passed away at 53.

Hallo, LJFW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Maggie B.:

doug, what was right before that?
Avatar 9:02am hyde:

@Doug my fondest baseball memory is a game in Fenway in which the Brewers hit 5 home runs and the Red Sox hit 6 and it was ultimately won 14-10 by the sox on a grand slam by the Boomer off a pitch that was about three inches off the ground

How many songs about fishing are actually about fishing outside of the Congos, "Row, Fisherman, Row", and even that's not explicitly about fishing per se......

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:50am listener james from westwood:

my intro to cricket was thru the third "hitchhiker's guide" book. later saw some matches on cable and was thoroughly boggled. i'd definitely need a jungle guide to introduce me to its ways.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:53am Brian in UK:

@james under a car park in Leicester.
No rush to absorb cricket, Test cricket, six hours a day for five days. I know you folks find that wasteful. Buit that is why it is called TEST cricket.

My intro to cricket was CLR James' Beyond a Boundary. "What do they know of cricket who only cricket know?" is a line I'll never forget.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Stanley:

A couple of years ago I was stuck in Delhi due to the Icelandic ash cloud business and spent my time watching Indian cricket non-stop on teevee.
Sort of enjoyable though got sick of seeing Shane Warne on the field, then being interviewed and then advertising beer and god knows what in the ad breaks.
County cricket of warm beer and long shadows it was not.

The WFMU app definitely does not work on the Kindle Fire HD, but the Tune In app does work, in an awkward way. I'm not sure FMU is the kind of thing one would wish to spring on people used to listening to classic rock and urban pop, during the first week on a job.
Avatar 11:28am northguineahills:

Hmmm, Lamin Fofana (WFMU) is from Sierre Leone, and he's in w/ the Dutty Artz crew.
Avatar 11:28am Ike:

Nice sounds!

I was in Baltimore for a couple of brief weekends not long ago. It's lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Jeff Golick:

What'd I miss...?

Hm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Uncle Michael:

Trial by fire, Simon.
Avatar 11:32am ndbob:

@Simon glad you mentioned that..was thinking about getting a Kindle Fire - that's one stroke against it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Doug Schulkind:

The new WFMU iPhone app will DEFINITELY provide access to Drummer Stream archive shows!!

NGH, you are correct about Lamin and Dutty.
Avatar 11:34am ndbob:

Doug - I love the vintage African stuff. I'll never forget the first time. It was in 1983 when I was bumming around Africa. There I was hanging out with some young Azande guys one night in Juba, Southern Sudan when I heard this most amazing amazing music. It was Dr Nico from Zaire. When I asked what the words were about I was told that he could talk to the birds. I believed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Jeff Golick:

@hyde: (going way back for this one) I think I might've also been at that Sox/Brewers game. Was it at Fenway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am pacific standard simon:

I love my Fire, but there are some apps that were designed for Android phones, yet are not compatible with Android tablets.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:37am listener james from westwood:

amazon was sunsetting one of its earlier kindles during the fire ramp-up; i sprinted to get one for my dad because i had a feeling the fire would be too much for him to handle. he barely has a grasp of the plain-jane one i got him, but really it's all he needs.
Avatar 11:38am ndbob:

need to go.. excellent show Doug.. catch what I missed on the archive
Avatar 11:38am Monica:
