Hi Therese! How's my favorite nighttime DJ doing? =)

...KoSL is *not* some kewl song by X I never heard

Hey, Therese!
Avatar 12:25am

@RRN63: I too thought the vocals sounded a lot like John and Exene.

...dammit - kewl trax - but I know if I try 'n' listen in my sleep - I'll prob. wake up ~3A.M. & wonder 'wtf'?!?...

I can't think of a single Scottish band that I haven't liked. I'm sure there's one or two out there, but overall that country produces some fine bands.

Bay City Rollers?
  12:36am

An album title referencing Henry V, nice
Avatar 12:41am

this is very interesting.
Avatar 12:43am
Therese:

Yup. It's the Pet Shop Boys covering Springsteen.
Avatar 12:45am
Droll:

BGZ, Interesting -- I'm not able to think of a crap Scotch band either. Normally Oz is my example for "land that does not produce lame bands".
Avatar 12:45am

i like the springsteen cd where him and other musicians play old folk music with the original non electric music.
Avatar 12:47am
Julie:

ooh great song
Avatar 12:47am

i mean early 19th century folk music .songs like john henry.
Avatar 12:51am

For the record I have no misgivings about Bay City Rollers.
Avatar 12:54am

Love this. There's a great vid of them doing Make Me Smile at a festival. Emotive. THanks.
Avatar 1:00am
BadGuyZero:

Ok...I thought I was the only one who didn't think "Velvet Goldmine" was very good. I thought it was going to be the glam rock Goodfellas or Boogie Nights, and it just wasn't in the same league. A former roommate thought it was the greatest thing ever which is why I thought I was alone in not like it so much.
Avatar 1:01am
Julie:

it's all about the soundtrack
Avatar 1:06am

Belieber?? it's not Belieber is it??
Avatar 1:07am

Holy hell! How old is he???
Avatar 1:11am
BadGuyZero:

Is he building it in Puerto Nasa?
Avatar 1:14am
Julie:

she reminds me of nanci griffith
Avatar 1:22am

In that Steve Harley fest clip i had seen, the electric guitar player uses an acoustic on a stand to play the signature solo. That part of song isnt on this version.
Avatar 1:26am

Can you follow with Nick Drake's mother, Therese?
Avatar 1:26am

Nick!!!

We want Molly Drake! Wonder if his actress sister also sang.

Your knowledge is deep, KP. Never knew about Nick's mom until I Googled it.

I love Nick Drake. That album has been played here quite a bit. She sounds like him in voice and approach. Too sad, even for me.

What I love about WFMU is always learning something new, whether from the DJ, or an astute listener. Thx, KP!

For record, so to speak, his sister Gabrielle does sing on one track on a Nick Drake ablum called Family Tree. Just looked that up. Never heard of the release, have to confess.
Avatar 1:44am

Who is having the two drinks? Him or us?
Avatar 1:45am
Julie:

Will there be Nick/Therese crossover chat?
Avatar 1:46am
Therese:

We'll see, Julie!
Avatar 1:48am
Julie:

You said that in your mom voice, didn't you
Avatar 1:49am
Therese:

Well, not in MY mom's voice...
Avatar 1:49am
BadGuyZero:

At least she didn't tell you to go ask Nick.
Avatar 1:50am
Nick the Bard:

WE'll see if I can get far enough along with the comic to do anything.

Although, I could jsut cheat a bit and use an older one I forgot I had on this card. That's a better one. Even if it'd have to get retconned a bit :/
Avatar 1:52am
BadGuyZero:

@Nick: Lots of pog references?
Avatar 1:54am
Nick the Bard:

Not until I can get a figure of Steve Allen (I have ALF toys around my house somewhere, but Steve Allen is needed far more)
Avatar 1:55am
Nick the Bard:

I did go to a garage sale two years ago where some woman tried to sell me a sandwich bag of POGs for like six bucks. I couldn't put the bag down fast enough and managed to talk her down to a buck each for a Dino Riders VHS tape and a two color liquid filled pyramid thing.
Avatar 1:57am
BadGuyZero:

I liked at the end of the POG fad when they actually started releasing POGs that appealed to me. Star Wars, Earthworm Jim and Universal Monsters.
Avatar 2:00am
BadGuyZero:

Are you playing this on a Gameboy?
Avatar 2:02am
Nick the Bard:

I still have all of mine (kept in the first mailer tube I ever got too. I got it when the Sci-fi Book Club sent me a replacement jacket for messed one my copy of The Princess Bride had), as well as the POG maker with a bunch of blanks still. THe POG maker's blades still work too 20 years in.

Now I feel all old. Dammit :/

I love this Glitz song.

LPB, that was new to me but pretty cool/funny. Sounded current and dated at same time!

This Jeffrey Novak track sounds like Robyn Hitchcock crossed with Ian Hunter.

Destruction Unit! A band that actually lives up to their name live. I hadn't seen fireworks, instruments and garbage flying through the air like that since some Crash Worship show I went to circa 1993.
