Favoriting Seven Second Delay with Andy and Ken: Playlist from August 21, 2013 Favoriting

The program formerly known as Dinner at Andy's, The Fuzzy Glove Hour, Whores, and The Happiness Hut. Ken and Andy, also known as The Enema Boys, further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards on a weekly basis. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw. (Visit homepage.)

Hi Matt! Irwin and I are in here getting nervous over the dead air chicken. This just torments board ops!

Hello, Matt and live and virtual personages.

Amy Winehouse would be a good recent candidate for a beyond grave-PSA. Particularly because everyone could've seen that coming. But it would seem so not-genuine, and only become a joke, seeming like one of those court-ordered PSAs for celebrities (like David Crosby there).

Fredericks:

Did Johnny Thunders ever make one of those?

Hi Fred'rix! Hi Andrea and Irwin!

hey Matt!

@Andrea just saw another funny playlist of Andy's from that link www.wfmu.org...

@Burger -- my fave from that list is Paul MONKartney "Live (Me) and Let Die (Ken)"

"By the time you hear this, I'll be dead, from forgetting to breathe. Many of us are stressed out from work and life, and forget to even inhale, but there's another side to that coin: relaxing too deeply. I enjoyed a foot massage so much, my body relaxed and forgot to breathe. It was very awkward for the qualified, skilled masseuse to explain. Please, don't stress out too much, but don't relax too much either. This is a public service announcement from the Damned-if-you-do-or-don't Foundation."

Mixtape CD? Where, where!

@M_f_S it was a marathon prize for Meghan's show -- her prizes are mix-cds sent in by listeners :)

@Danne: Do the CDs have to have a theme?
Avatar 6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

"First time liver, last time dier. Can't believe I got through!"
Avatar 6:28pm
Danne D:

I believe not - I would check in with Meghan as she can give you all of the particulars :)

Mine happened to have a theme, though.
Avatar 6:30pm
Danne D:

Um, dare I ask if Ken has an idea of how many of these callers actually, have you know...
Avatar 6:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Pshaw! Any dying thing can go with a trend - it takes a living dying thing to go against it...
Avatar 6:31pm
Andrea Silenzi:

"By the time you hear this, I'll have passed on. Don't make the same mistake that I did and drink to many diet cokes after lunch. Just because you're tired and they are only $0.75 at the deli downstairs. Drink some water or get some more sleep, and you won't need the bubbly poison drink. This message was brought to you by the Better Beverage Bureau."
Avatar 6:31pm
Danne D:

This banter foreshadows the episode where they look for the caller with the longest internet delay.
Avatar 6:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: You know, that's bound to happen sometime; watching an SNL from the 90s, it's astounding when you realize how many people shown have died since then.
Avatar 6:32pm
Andrea:

@Danne -- that's a great idea! If you make it as a mix on the FMA, I'd love top feature it on our homepage. It also means you can offer a download link to interested parties who don't get the CD.
  6:33pm
Robert:

Yesterday I was mean to Scott on the comments line, basically because I treated his show in the spirit of 7SD. I should apologize to him. Scott is not Ken, and his daughter is not Andy, so it's not fair to make fun of their on air relationship.
Avatar 6:33pm
Danne D:

cool :) I'll tweet you a DM with some of the particulars of my plan :)
Avatar 6:33pm
Andrea:

What did you say, Robert???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Laila is at the top of her game when she treats WFMU as the thing that gets more of dad's attention than her.
Avatar 6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Andrea: For now I'm good, as long as they don't campaign against too much *caffeine* at work in general.
@Danne: That was a good one! The type of stream selected was almost more influential than the distance from server, by 2012/3.
  6:35pm
Robert:

You know how vulnerable you are to your kids when you're in a public place? Imagine if that's not just a restaurant, but on the air.
  6:37pm
Robert:

So I rubbed it in. It doesn't help that his is a program I practically never comment on otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
whiteslice:

Ahhhh, the golden years of SSD.
Avatar 6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Robert: If you're sorry and don't want to do it again, send Scott an email to apologize.

And if he's under the impression that you're only on his board to throw cheapshots at him, drop an encouraging or nice word there every so often.
Avatar 6:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@whiteslice: Ahh, such golden years, so much failure to look forward to, so many concepts to bomb out instead of failing to bomb out on them...
Avatar 6:41pm
Danne D:

"Fatal Flaw" on this show - any callers who may have died have been pretty bad about following up with Ken and Andy telling them how they died.

I nearly died from embarrassment when I realized that Andrea's contest entry played on her fill-in on Monday was based on a true story. One that oddly fits the topic.
  6:42pm
Robert:

I was planning to, thanks.

I similarly upset Terre a few years ago in comments when I criticized the photo she took and put up of the band. I felt sorry for them for promotional purposes, but I did it in a sarcastic way. But I think my criticism, however meanly delivered, actually did improve the band publicity photos on her show.
Avatar 6:42pm
Danne D:

Ken was years ahead of the news reports about kids "Pharming" by taking whatever drugs their grandparents had in the medicine cabinet to try and get a cheap high.
Avatar 6:42pm
Caryn:

I wonder if anyone's gotten my mix cds yet... I'm always at work during UWTP, so I can't enquire on the live playlists.

It would be interesting to have a follow-up show and try to find out if any callers had died.
Avatar 6:43pm
Danne D:

@Caryn ya gotta go into the time machine and listen to the archive and see who won :)
Avatar 6:43pm
Danne D:

Pretty sure Fred Von H won the other copy of my CD :)
Avatar 6:44pm
Danne D:

I was tempted to try and win my own CD to get the cool cover art Meghan made but I thought that would be bad form.
Avatar 6:44pm
Caryn:

@Danne: I have the winners written down on the WFMU Marathon form, but I rarely see the winners on other playlists than UWTP, so...
Avatar 6:45pm
Danne D:

Hope ya track 'em down :) Pretty sure most of the swag is out by now as my swagmas happened a couple weeks ago and I'm usually toward the end of the proceedings
  6:46pm
Robert:

BTW, Matt, I'm afraid it wasn't the 1st time with Scott & Leila regarding my comments. I mean, I KNOW I rubbed it in previously. What I'm afraid also MIGHT be true (don't remember) is that Scott told me THEN that he didn't like it.
Avatar 6:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Me too--I bet it's the higher volumes of swag that take the longest to deliver :)
Avatar 6:47pm
Caryn:

Haven't gotten my swag yet, but last year it only arrived near the end of September, so there's still plenty of time. Looking forward to it so much!
Avatar 6:47pm
hamburger:

oddly enough it's kinda fun to have the swag arrive so late - you're aware of the time it takes for processing and then when it does come it's such a neat surprise
Avatar 6:49pm
Danne D:

@M_f_S that's somewhat true, actually - the more complicated the packing the longer, generally. Sometimes it may depend on when the DJ premiums selected arrive as well. I'm always amazed at home efficiently they pack everything when the stuff arrives :)
Avatar 6:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Robert: just remember for the future to keep sarcasm/teasing only on the appropriate kind of shows (like this list), or among those you comment to frequently.
Avatar 6:51pm
Danne D:

(Dan is I'm guessing, Bodah? It's not me though) :)

@Robert I can just echo what M_f_S. Caustic humor is very tricky when applied to a venue like this - especially when it falls into something that treds closer to personal territory. One trick is to put a mental timer on the preview feature before posting.
Avatar 6:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: True, commenters reports of receiving a mouse's worth of swag in Europe and Asia comes weeks or months before mine (all the items gotta be tracked down and packed up). I love the surprise of re-discovering the swag you forgot about, but I still appreciate Liz Berg's kind letters thanking us for our patience! :)
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
cklequ:

I just got my swag a couple weeks ago. Out of the mountain of stuff, for some reason my single favorite thing is that moon night light. And for some crazy reason, the Seven Second Delay premium was on backorder. Wasn't expecting that.
Avatar 6:54pm
Caryn:

Of course, the Scharpling swag usually takes an additional year to arrive. And many of Ken's premiums nowadays does too, if it ever appears. That 7SD porn tape is going to take forever, isn't it?
Avatar 6:54pm
Danne D:

One other thing is the more complicated the piece of swag, the more likely a backorder will occur.

Commemorative plates take time after all :)
Avatar 6:54pm
Danne D:

CDs are a much more straightforward item for FMU to process.
Avatar 6:55pm
Danne D:

They should play "Up on the Roof" in the background of this guy's PSA
  6:56pm
Robert:

Or, Matt, those whose hosts I know wouldn't care, like my ol' pal Irwin's (whether his is "the appropriate kind" or not). BTW, Irwin's been off & on as to whether he's bothered by people using that old moniker.
Avatar 6:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Don't wait up for *that* tape, just put your pajamas on and go to bed ;)
Avatar 6:58pm
Danne D:

Great rebroadcast :)
One day it'll be "20 Questions" I just know it :)
Avatar 6:58pm
Caryn:

@Matt: I've pretty much taken it as read that the tape will appear in a couple of decades time, when I've forgotten all about it. But hey, I got an extra bit of swag to make up for the delay, so yay!
Avatar 6:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: I like that I got a bonus "replacement" swag item as well! :)
@Danne: That's a legendary one, if only for it's relation to current listeners to date! I'm looking forward to the day it's encored! :)

Thanks Ken & Andy DAT and board ops and listeners!
Have a good evening everyone!
