Pour yourself a stiff drink and have a soft cushion, ausmanx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am Uncle Michael:

I'm atoning. I'll do the reverse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am AndrewC.:

Stiff drink - I like that idea. Remind me to pick something up on the way home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am Doug Schulkind:

If it ain't stiff, AndrewC, it ain't worth a sip.

Uncle Michael, you are always atonal.

Our opening track is one of two songs in this set from 1906. Not the oldest, though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Doug Schulkind:

Like Mark E. Smith, our playlist idol was prone to flights of high melodrama.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Doug Schulkind:

This dude from Greenland sure sounds like Kurt Schwitters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am davex:

Funny, I was just humming this in the shower...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Stanley:

This is Mark E Smith? He doesn't sound very well. All that smoking I suppose.

Dammit, is the pic Al Jolson?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Parq:

I caught only the tail end of that Jolie, but it sounded brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am KevinfromBayRidge:

So... Can I save the shipping by picking said kewpie doll in PBurg?

Avatar 9:43am northguineahills:

Thanks Drummers! Feeling 60% better. Mostly I now feel bad b/c of the lack of sleep after waking at 2:30 AM to the problems. It's weird b/c all I ate yesterday was quinoa salad, kale salad, and a lentil patty. Not foods I'd associate w/ a risk of getting food poisoning.
Avatar 9:45am northguineahills:

429 Engaños! Que chido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Doug Schulkind:

Things are about to get pumpi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Gary:

This set has made my whole week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Alex In Illinois:

When I see a survey that says: "We'd love to hear your thoughts" I think of saying: "Okay, her ya go!" and playing them music that sounds a lot like that Corazones number by 429 Engaños that you just played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Seven days without prayer makes one week, Gary.
Avatar 9:49am still b/p:

Avatar 9:51am dc patricio:

you are so right stillbp. thanks for the reminder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Alex In Illinois:

I HI Doug,
Oh, I don't mean to saying anything bad about the 429 Engaños music. I really did enjoy it. I am just saying that often my thoughts sound like that.
Avatar 9:51am northguineahills:

Yeah, but most maladies associated w/ veggies are more serious then a 5 hour bout of unfunness. But you are 100% correct, still b/p.
Avatar 9:52am hyde:

@ngh in the US, the Center for science in the Public Interest actually has listed leafy greens as #1 for riskiest foods regulated by the FDA. About a quarter of food related illness outbreaks came from greens the year they compiled stats for this.
Avatar 9:52am dc patricio:

dang, should have also requested los Piranas during that set. Prob my most favorite group right now.
Avatar 9:53am dc patricio:

yeah but is that because leafy greens are generally not cooked?
Avatar 9:54am northguineahills:

There are almost no decent eateries in downtown Brooklyn, so, I tried a vegan cafe on Atlantic Ave (a good 10 minute power walk). Whoops. And I think dc patricio hit the nail on the head.
Avatar 9:56am dc patricio:

been meaning to try Everlasting Life Cafe (vegan) here in dc, they have a truck now too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Uncle Michael:

It would have really been something is PEOPLE had shown up for last night's Bucs/Cubs game. The stands were sparse. pfft.
Avatar 9:58am hyde:

@dc patricio not cooking them is definitely part of the risk. Sometimes simple improper washing is the trouble too.
Avatar 9:59am northguineahills:

I would love to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Chicago Cubs!
Avatar 9:59am still b/p:

Hope you're at 100% for the weekend anyway, NGH.

The Pump vocal being chipmonkish...reminds me of irrelevant trivia bits I happily learned just this week: Ross Bagdasarian had a small nonspeaking role in Rear Window, and wrote Come On-a My House with his cousin, William Saroyan.
Here endeth the irrelevancy.
Avatar 9:59am dc patricio:

I think we've all learned a lesson today.

I love for DCUnited to win one freakin match...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Doug Schulkind:

I got your drift perfectly, Alex. But those guys from 428 Engaños really do suck.

@Uncle Michael
Actually, the Pirates have sold out pretty every game for the last month or so. It was raining, hard, much of the day yesterday. So I'm guessing some people stayed home and dry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

And there were 23,000 at the park, so not so embarrassing, UM.
Avatar 10:03am ausmanx:

speaking of chipmunks... Alvin Curran was at my house ten days ago when we had someone play his five-hour Inner Cities thing. one of my friends was sitting next to Mrs Curran and said "I don't know much about Alvin, just his early work with the Chipmunks". she stared at him in incredulous disgust....

My account from here:

Comments and playlist conked out during Vinko Globokar. Not long after I tuned in, coincidentally.

Comments tripped back in again without a browser refresh and then conked out again. And back in again. Playlist required a manual refresh.

Stream hasn't wavered, though I did check out to reset things on my end. And a bird died.
Avatar 11:39am ndbob:

@Stanley try stopping and restarting your player
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Stanley:

@ndbob - think i worked it out. It was a whole bunch of Mardi Gras stuff, just that the plalist was way delayed.

  11:43am trish:

Doug -- I just downloaded that animated gif. that's been dragging. It's not really 17.5 MB is it??! That's a bigass-boatload for the playlist autorefresh.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:47am Artie:

That is indeed a 17MB gif file. Though your browser should cache and reuse it after the initial download.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Uncle Michael:

Heh. Doug asked me if it worked OK this morning...he didn't tell me it was big. The one time I used a big one, I had to disable it during the show and put it back for the archive, were refreshing isn't an issue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Uncle Michael:

True, Artie.
  11:49am trish:

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure images don't cache the way wfmu has the autorefresh set up.
  11:52am trish:

I was ensnared in dial-up speeds for a bunch of months last winter and wfmu gif-a'plenty playlist pages made things go slow-kablooey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

I don't even know what 17.5 MB means.
  11:54am trish:

Sure you do. It's the file size. 17.5 Megabyes. Or 16.7. Or whatever it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am pacific standard simon:

Wow, everything's borken! I've been trying to get in for an hour and a half, but now all the windows are finally appearing at the same time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:54am Artie:

It's just a meta-refresh tag, backed up by a javascript window.reload() call on a timer. Nothing there that should interfere with the browser's cache behavior. Browsers and mileage may vary, but this should be pretty standard behavior.
