There's something almost other-worldly about the sound of Mauritanian modern music. It's a swirling, shimmering blend of electric guitar and traditional instruments and singing. This captivating music is rarely heard in New York. So when we heard that acclaimed singer Noura Mint Seymali & Jeiche Ould Chighaly and their band were coming to town, there was no choice but to bring them to WFMU for a live session too!
The band has one more gig on their current US tour, Tropicalia in Washington DC tomorrow (Sunday) night - but they will return to New York and possibly other cities in January 2014.
Massive thanks to our illustrious mix engineer Gil Shuster and assistant Jason Sigal!

And thank you Rob! I love to come home and listen to this radio station and always be astonished by the musical diversity. I've meet Kenny G in Lisbon a couple months ago, he made a great live performance in "Oporto", and that's how I got to know WFMU (thank God!!). He made us an hour of pain live:http://oportolisboa.blogspot.pt Thank you, best, AT! :) | |
