'Candy & a Current Bun' was of course originally 'Let's Roll Another One'...which version I think I might have actually heard somewhere...but just as likely hallucinated, of course...Psychedelic Stones...
Avatar 4:00am

"Daily Nightly" was a highlight of recent Monkees tour.

i would be too.

Thank you, Julie!

...anyone can be in a band - but less often you have interesting textures & arrangements & songs like this - & they come across as very much a 'band' - if you know what I mean...not amazing observations on my part maybe, but I likes 'em!...
Avatar 4:39am

Early b-52s, with Ricky Wilson (i saw them like that, BTW).
Avatar 4:40am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...whew - so they wouldn't mind I said Lynch & stuff...
Avatar 4:43am

not familiar with Hal Hartley.

Lynch is ultimate compliment on any level. They might be tuned in, BTW. i would be. I am!

Morning! Damn it I missed the live performance! Grrrr

There are confusingly many theories about Autism. One is that the different parts of the brain are functioning, but not communicating w/ each other. One takeaway from 'This Is Your Brain on Music' by Daniel J. Levitin is music uses more different parts of the brain than maybe any other activity. Just a rumination...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:51am

Meghan! It was really great too :P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am

Oh man, missed a live set - by a Cocteau-ey band too!!
Well there's always the post-interview song :)

Morning Julie and Meghan and everyone!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:52am

Morning, Matt! I wouldn't say they are Cocteau-y really.
Avatar 4:53am

Hi, Matt.

True Matt..... True
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54am

Meghan you need to go see them live, they really are fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: This one for example has super-layered acoustic guitars that remind me of The Church's "Under The Milky Way".

Early morning to ya, KP!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:55am

it's an atypical song for them but it's the first one that grabbed me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Now me too, Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am
Matt from Springfield:

This one is definitely the early 80s 4AD sound.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:57am

Stephen, who produces the albums and plays lead, is a big goth fan, so you can hear that influence along with the surfy twang. Very cramps
Avatar 4:59am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think of this R.E.M. bio I read somewhere - it talks about them as people & their history - then Peter Buck discovering the 12-string Rick - & it's kinda goofy how it was written - like from personal matters to Buck having some profound revelation w/ this guitar - but that's actually kinda how it is!...

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:06am

i was really surprised Emilie didn't have any doll songs, not in the titles anyhow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am
Matt from Springfield:

That's right - first week in October! That was the new fall schedule 3 years ago.

Happy Birthday/Anniversary Dark Night of the Soul, and Children of the Night! And of course the playlist itself, very goth--comments appear white on red of a still-beating heart when it's live, and when it closes the white on black of cold, eternal granite. Long Live Death!!

...the eternal questions :
- Izzat your beer or mine?
- Should I try & sleep more, or just start the day now & stay w/ FMU ?...
- Should I have a problem w/ this song because it 'glamorizes' meth (?) & the only long-term girlfriend I ever had ended up in Serernity Knolls where Jerry Garcia went to did because of it?...
...Yerknow - that stuff...

But, we can always laugh to keep from crying.

This Pre-Madonna is great, liked her older stuff much better anyway!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:19am

yeah that one is really cool, but nothing else on the album that really sounds like that
Avatar 5:21am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Yeah - these little differences can come up between people in relationships - you're a meth addict, I'm not...This show gets a ☆ I believe...
Avatar 5:23am

Toyah! Toyah!

of course we're talking the old days when MTV DID NOT HAVE COMMERCIALS. oh man. jersey days :)
Avatar 5:32am
fred von helsing:

Aha there's a Finnish version of this song I think. Is this a cover ?
Avatar 5:33am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'Like a Prayer' vid interesting - I like her attitudes about some things...but 'music'? It was never about that...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:33am

I don't know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33am
Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: THAT was a different era, entirely!

Maybe this is an older song being covered, so there could be other covers in diff languages.
Avatar 5:36am
fred von helsing:

Then in the late 80s you had USA Night Flight, man that was a frickin' great series.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37am

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37am

oh yeah night flight was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39am

Wooooohooooo!!! My new stereo radio gonna make you feel alright!
The Stripes - Nena auf Englisch!
Avatar 5:42am
fred von helsing:

There was an interwebz group for night flight but it's gone silent. I think most of that stuff never made it to dvd (or bittorrent), which is a damned shame. The best thing I saw on it was kate bush in concert at the hammersmith odeon. Just kate in a body stocking and wireless mike plus a handful of props and some other dancers for some of the numbers. Tremendous. So so tremendous.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:43am

Kate was interviewed on it once, first time I ever saw any of her old vids

"Beelzebub - is achin' in my belly-o / My feet are heavy and they're achin' in my Well-i-os"!! Wellington boots!

What a catchy and liberating Kate song!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44am

did you start talking about Kate before or after I played her :O
Avatar 5:44am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- the young Kate Bush - now, that was fascination...
Avatar 5:45am
fred von helsing:

Before. But I'm a precog, what can I say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: There are NO coincidences! Feeling the same wavelength in different places, this show! :)

@FVH: That was Kate's one '79 tour - logistical nightmare (24 costumes for 20 songs!!), but they say she was the first performer to use those now ubiquitous wireless mics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am

copying my photo in the record library idea..... tsk tsk....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:46am

Meghan I am out of photo ideas
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:47am

She did use the mic first, one of the guys on her tour bent a coat-hanger for her
Avatar 5:47am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but there's a Kate backlash - well, I guess she was always to your taste or not...Kristeen Young sounds a teeny bit like Tori Amos no?? Who...like Kate...&tc. ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am
Matt from Springfield:

&c. indeed, RRN63!

@Julie: Necessity is the mother! :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49am

Kristeen may pre-date Tori, not totally sure. She had a couple bands before her solo stuff. Her voice has Kate moments

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am
Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: A debate for another day...
Avatar 5:54am

So '79 was the advent of wireless mikes eh. I hafta say Kate's new stuff a few years ago did not hit the sweet spot, but that might be cos of changes in me not her :)

- well - that was one meaning of Zappa's 'Mothers'...as players, of course...
