dB from Oakland:

Hello Sue P, Hello FMU scientists -- this New Zealand selection is way better than any of the Ring and/or Hobbit movies.
Avatar 12:11am
dB from Oakland:

... and this Tommy James track is similarly awesome.
  12:11am
@joejoejoe_m:

Haha I was expecting some tommy James
Avatar 12:13am
Sue P.:

Glad I did not disappoint, joejoejoe_m!

Live at Leeds! Or Hull, or whatever. It's all good to me. If I was starving, I could probably sustain myself on Keith Moon's drum fills.
  12:15am
KP:

Awaiting the super duper Tommy set.

stray teepee:

@dBMy favorite album of all time (I had to choose one under duress of torture) The Who Live at Leads.

Just tuned in sorry I missed the Who tune. Drat!
  12:18am
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Sue and all the listeners.

KP:

Cool Cronin.

KP:

I would put Tommy itself close to tippy-toppy.

dB from Oakland:

@strayTeepee -- it's a favorite album from my youth that I'm fond of to this day. From what I remember "Live at Leeds" was an inaccurate title, but I'm not an expert on British geography. "Live at Hull" was the more complete version of the same concert. Does that sound right, Sue?

dB from Oakland:

Que Pasa, Junkie Chipmunk??
Avatar 12:25am
stray teapee:

Yeah, Tommy's great. I think dB might swing to Quadraphenia if your talkin' rock operas. The drums in that work is really unbelievably full and symphonic.
Avatar 12:31am
KP:

No Leeds is Leeds and Hull is Hull. They used some bits from the latter to fill in the former. The beginning of John's vocal track on Heaven and Hell for example.
Avatar 12:35am
KP:

Never cared for Quad. Not Who enough for me. Moons greatest accomplishment is the Underture. It really is a solo symphony.
Avatar 12:35am
Sue P.:

The Who's Live at Hull is actually a different concert (the night after Leeds!).
Avatar 12:36am
dB from Oakland:

tonite's google map project is the distance between Leeds and Hull ...
Avatar 12:37am
Sue P.:

Ha! I like it.
Avatar 12:38am
dB from Oakland:

La Machine ... aw man, this is a great "Underwater Bass" sound.
Avatar 12:38am
KP:

I also had the misfortune of attending an unbelievably horrible quad performance in Montreal. The tapes wouldn't work and whole thing was mess. The boys all ended up in jail that night.
Avatar 12:43am
dB from Oakland:

Leeds to Hull ... 61.7 miles (1 hour and 6 minutes) by car. 55.5 miles (18 hours and change) by foot.

I'm really glad I got to see the 21st century, but can I go home now?

SUE amazing show! Goddamn!

@KP That is a cool story, sorry it didn't pan out better.

Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I can't believe I missed The Who's special appearance. Glen Jones seems to have had a Who epiphany this year and nearly always plays a track (seems to usually be Quadrophenia) in the first set. Just this past Sunday I was commenting that "The Rock" from Quad was perhaps The Who's closest drift toward prog.
Avatar 1:26am
Sue P.:

I'm loving all the love for The Who!
Avatar 1:26am
Droll:

Pete, Depends on how you define prog. The Who made many concept albums, did plenty of long-form songs, flirted with sci-fi... not all prog uses Mellotron and has a flute solo.
Avatar 1:28am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I used to spend quite a bit of time poring through abysmal Who bootleg records in the West Village shops. The transcriber of my favorite, "Who Is This," jotted down Daltrey's announced "'s one called 'Relay'" as "Uncle Reely." The art of error...
Avatar 1:32am
glass pan:

@Pete That's a funny translation. I learned a new word today, "reely"

Sue seems to be on quite a tear at the moment.

Hey! Was great hearing the Ash Nav tracks again! Plus, great show as always, love the segue's. And Toiling Midgets live, man.....
Avatar 1:33am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Droll, Quadrophenia was about as concept-heavy as anything Yes or ELP ever did. The weaving of motifs and story through the 88 or so minutes is as rock-dorky (meant as a compliment) as it gets. There's so much layering going on that every time I listen there's something I forgot in there.
Avatar 1:38am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Who aside, Sue, it is a rare treat these days to trick myself awake at this hour to catch a little Solid Gold Hell. Still in my small handful of most enjoyable shows on WFMU.

Been loving all the recent Lee Ranaldo play on the radio.

Goodness! Had to put this on the 'big boy' speakers and to let the neighbors enjoy this Tomma Skallar too.

In my next job, I request Wednesdays off. Until then, my compliments and good night.

I gottta' go to bed, but can't pull away. No choice but to sleep with the music on. Hope I don't have nightmares! Thanks Sue P.
