Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Getting ready for another meta DJ nightmare, eh Parq?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Matt F:

GAAAAAAAAH! Hi everybody. Stanley, next marathon I will be giving away official Matt Fiveash Show adult diapers so you never have to miss another minute of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Stanley:

  2:05pm Andy S.:

In 1999, I saw Rufus Thomas play a free show in Prospect Park. The stage was pretty far from the seating, and at one point Rufus started singing to (what looked to him like) an attractive long-haired gal in one of the front rows: "I looove you, baby, yes I do, you're so fine," etc. In fact -- as was obvious to everyone in the audience -- it was a long-haired guy. Can't remember if Rufus came to a sudden realization of his error...
Avatar 2:06pm Sean B.:

Alright!.GREAT to be here as always.Hope all is well Matt & all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Doug Schulkind:

...not that there's anything wrong with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Matt F:

Andy- Sometime in the 90s he told my friend Bev that she had an ass like a sistah.
Avatar 2:10pm Mailman Tom:

I pledged $75 to WFMU last week, and I'll be getting the tee shirt plus your CD as a premium!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Matt F:

Thanks Tom! Hope you will dig the CD.
Avatar 2:13pm Sean B.:

Anyhoo, before I leave this board, your last show was killer,Matt.Bye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Matt F:

Thanks Sean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Parq:

@Doug, 1:59 -- all I did was wake up this morning. That's *all* I did ...
  2:25pm Lore:

Thanks for this number, Matt. I've just been starting to become aware of the rewards found in Tampa Red's latter-era sides.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Matt F:

Yeah Lore. I think his voice started to sound a little weirdly like Ray Charles with age...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

Lee! Big! Wilco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Stanley:

That's me in the front bashing my head against the bass drum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Uncle Michael:

Matt...that Tornadoes song reminds me of something...like an early Aaron Neville single or something...trying to place it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Matt F:

The voice is Nevilleish, the music reminds me of Castin' My Spell by the Johnny Otis show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm listener james from westwood:

i can get behind this sin city thing right here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Uncle Michael:

The Tornadoes reminds me of Earl King's Trick Bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Uncle Michael:

Powerage is the best AC/DC album and if you disagree, you're wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Matt F:

Goddamn right UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Uncle Michael:

this set is killin' me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Uncle Michael:

Moon tune.
  2:46pm Ralph & Susan (UK):

good selection tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Matt F:

I love that it's "tonight" over there! Hi RSUK...
  2:53pm Andy S.:

I will always thank the J. Geils Band for turning me on to this record ("Ain't Nothin' But A House Party").
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Matt F:

Hell Yes. And "First I Look At The Purse"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Uncle Michael:

I seem to be one whole song behind the playlist today...weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

Hello, Joe. Whatya know?
Avatar 3:00pm hyde:

got here just in time for the WBCN reference. Alright.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Uncle Michael:

I don't know if Joe remembers this but he's filling in for me in four weeks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Uncle Michael:

Hey, I'm excited about it.
Avatar 3:03pm Brian in UK:

Yee Haw
Avatar 3:03pm Brian in UK:

Back to the kitchen
Avatar 3:04pm kat330:

Hi, Matt (waving "bye" to Joe)! If I've been listening all along -- and I have -- is it too late to chime in here how much I've been enjoying your show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Matt F:

Never too late. You can even do so tomorrow if you want, thanks to the magical KenzoDB AccuPlaylist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Matt, I just wanted to chime in and say how much I am already enjoying next week's show.
Avatar 3:08pm kat330:

OK then, chiming in: I've really been enjoying your show, Mr. 5-ash.
Avatar 3:09pm kat330:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Matt F:

Diane Kamikaze and I have a weely custom when we run into each other in the record library where we tell each other how much we enjoyed next week's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Uncle Michael:

Jesus, Matt...you don't let up.
  3:16pm Andy S.:

Dock Boggs...wow. I remember that Revenant compilation (from '98) and the impact it had on me. Some of his recollections in the liner notes were downright chilling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Matt F:

Yeah, a lot of that first batch of Revenant stuff really turned my head around...
Avatar 3:18pm hyde:

if Uncle Michael's living one song behind and Doug is listening to next week's show, i think this playlist slipped into a wormhole
Avatar 3:18pm kat330:

Jesus has little to do with this show today, from what I've heard.
Avatar 3:20pm hyde:

@Andy S Dock Boggs is crazy good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Matt F:

But it's all gospel music really, when you get down to it.
Avatar 3:20pm kat330:

Yes, of course, but also speaking of your early tracks. To wit, Mr. Hawkins. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Matt F:

That song's about communion wafers, right?
Avatar 3:22pm kat330:

That's the gospel truth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 3:24pm kat330:

I just went to my iTunes to see my track of this but instead landed on Simone's "Go to Hell." Isn't that Breckman's theme song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Matt F:

Avatar 3:29pm kat330:

Oooh, nice transition to that minor-key, spooky line Mr. Booker played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Matt F:

Lest we forget, here's the link to pledge to my show for the Oct. fundraiser: www.wfmu.org...
  3:31pm jH:

Mr. Booker just put a spring in my step. It scared the cat.
Thanks, Matt.
Avatar 3:32pm kat330:

Maybe it was the spring in your step that scared the cat?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Uncle Michael:

I love Elephant's Gerald.
Avatar 3:39pm kat330:

You can sure hear where Keith Richards got his sounds from in this. Early Stones exactly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Matt F:

Oh yeah. They were basically a Jimmy Reed/Chuck Berry cover band. A really good one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Uncle Michael:

I didn't even know the James Gang record was a cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Matt F:

Which one UM? "Stop"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Uncle Michael:

  3:46pm Andy S.:

"Minimalism has a certain charm. You say, that's a bit monotonous, but by the time it's finished, you're wishing it hadn't. There's nothing bad about monotony; everyone's got to live with it." -- Keith Richards on Jimmy Reed, from his autobiography LIFE.
  3:46pm Lore:

crucial organ solo on this number
Avatar 3:46pm kat330:

I had an email exchange this morning with someone from the UK who thought "House of the Rising Sun" was an Animals original, heh! (The wikipedia entry on that classic is an eye-opener.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Uncle Michael:

vital organ solo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Matt F:

hey Lore, go ahead and plug the RL show here if'n you want...
Avatar 3:53pm kat330:

Bite it, scratch it, chicken and booze -- ayep, gospel indeed.
Avatar 3:56pm kat330:

Thanks muchly for this Thursday afternoon service, Matt F.! Ta-t'all!
Avatar 3:57pm duke:

You can't beat going out with Impressions
Avatar 3:57pm duke:

Thanks for a fine show Mr 5.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Uncle Michael:

I am unhappy that this will come to an end. I am happy to hear Curtis and Jerry.
  3:58pm Zev:

Another great show! Also re: J Geils Band, before I spent a lot fo my my spare time hunting down the originals of Barrence Whitfield's covers, Chesterfield Kings's covers and the Zantees' covers, I learned a LOT from hunting down JGB covers (eg "Pack Fair & Square")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm listener james from westwood:

agreed in full. muchas gracias, matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Stanley:

Loved the show. Thanks Matt.
Roll on next week.
  4:00pm ?:

  4:01pm Jack:

That was me, loved the show, again next week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Jeff Golick:
