Well, that was a good first stretch of the program. I hope the final stretch can follow suit.
  9:16pm
sweet cheri:

hi there dave, what kind of show do you have in store for us tonight?
Avatar 9:16pm
Droll:

I most enjoy when he butchers some Eastern European name with lots of accents and no vowels, using his impeccable Brooklyn accent with the jazz DJ upturn at the end.
Avatar 9:17pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey Cheri. No idea.
Avatar 9:18pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Glad I've been able to pull that off successfully!

Why thanks, cheri. Doing pretty well. And you?
  9:30pm
sweet cheri:

dave i'm doing real good myself,,i just love the fall, don't you?
Avatar 9:32pm
Droll:

I hope he does a peaceful show featuring lots of Rock-In-Opposition and maybe some Itallian prog band singing in Latin. But I know there's a 2% rule, so it can never be.
  9:34pm
sweet cheri:

i think fall is a beautiful season with the clear brisk air, what do you think dave?
Avatar 9:36pm
Dave Mandl:

@cheri: Naturally I thought you meant the band. Yeah, I love fall here in NY, though I've got nothing against the band or the novel.
Avatar 9:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Heard this Tawny Night track by F.Bayle for the first time earlier this week (can't remember the FMU show at this point, it's all a blur) -- mind blown permanently. A gorgeous piece.
  9:43pm
sweet cheri:

well dave i got to head out for a while, but i'll be back on the board a little later,, and sorry for the misunderstanding.

@Tome: Thanks. Yes, lovely day today, and I'm sure it's just as lovely out there tonight. This is arguably the best time of year here in NY.
Avatar 9:54pm

G:

Lineup debates about defunct rock bands are specifically enumerated as a right in Madison's earliest draft of the Constitution.
Avatar 9:57pm
Droll:

Now that you mention it, I'm sure Jefferson would agree 81-84 in the studio, 73-74 live.
Avatar 9:58pm
Dave Mandl:

@G: Thank you. At last, we've got a Constitutional scholar here!
Avatar 9:59pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: This is exactly why I have no respect for Jefferson.
Avatar 9:59pm
Droll:

But KC is not defunct, 2014 tour: www.dgmlive.com...
Avatar 10:00pm
The_Use_Music:

Man, Dave Thank you for tonight's show! Was loving it in the car...that more abstract thing in the beginning, followed by that bluesy experimental stuff. Gold
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm
G:

Now that Yes was nominated to the RRHOF, the Yes diehards are back to having the *exact* same drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, etc. debates they were having when I got in the WWW in the early 90s, and who they think should and should not appear on stage. Counting their chickens.
Avatar 10:00pm
MDurek:

Oh So Blue...that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
G:

A band that has had as many cumulative years broken up as KC gets to call themselves defunct, even when they're on tour. :-)
Avatar 10:02pm
Dave Mandl:

@T_U_M: It's our pleasure to serve you.
Avatar 10:02pm
Droll:

G, Then all 73 members of Yes get to perform in the 90 minute song they play for their RRHoF induction.
Avatar 10:03pm
Dave Mandl:

Dead and alive: I guess Crimson can technically be called zombies, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
G:

Exactly, Droll. And KC cant be defunked when they never had any funk in the first place :)
Avatar 10:07pm
Droll:

I believe Yes already has a history of touring with two completely different Yeses on one stage. Prog audiences simply refuse to act confounded. Indeed, this is how we ended up at FMU listening to Mandl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
G:

Speaking of Zombies, they are on the fan poll for induction.

Speaking of non-band zombies, have you seen Howe or Squire recently? The South Amer Spanish-Ports-language Yes list members have been calling Howe Caveira (Skull) for 20 years or more.
Avatar 10:09pm
Mdurek:

Is there a band called "Defunkt Project" ? Cause, there should be
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
G:

Yes, the infamous Union tour, Droll, circa 1990. When Howe supposedly had someone on crew lock Rabin in his dressing room for awhile. I just love those Yes lyrics about universal love, huh?
Avatar 10:11pm

He set the table. :p
Avatar 10:23pm

Howe = Skull is soooo true! Glad it's not just me.

Hey there, Kitty. Thanks for the star.
Avatar 11:15pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Ha. Well, that may be a reasonable way to store the information in a database, but people trying to read liner notes shouldn't have to deal with that mess.
Avatar 11:19pm

Claude Shannon told me to tell you the booklet would be the size of a phone book if they don't encode efficiently.

I hear a sneeze coming on, no wait, it's a fart..no, no..it's a honker!
Avatar 11:24pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Not sure Shannon has to do with it. This isn't about information theory, it's about liner notes on jazz records.
Avatar 11:33pm
Droll:

Hey, I feel your pain, but they can only stuff so much in a CD case, it's not like the online playlist where you can just add 30 blank lines for free. I doubt they did it because it was easier, they made it a puzzle because there wasn't space to it all write out and still fit it inside the CD case.

...or it's a conspiracy.
Avatar 11:35pm
Dave Mandl:

Or they're bad interface designers.
