I shot Mr Lee is the same tune w different lyrics, right? I heard it a couple years ago. Strange, but cool that they would parody their own song. Pent up studio frustration.

The Impressions are a fantastic name, though high-fives hadn't really developed at that point. Low-fives were well established (see: Flip Wilson), so they almost certainly gave each other some low.

...soo - probably the Physics meant you could engineer Bass easier on a 45 ??...George Martin recalling the Beatles asking him how American R&B & others got that bass on records w/out the needle jumping, & he admitted he was stumped - & there were LPs that wouldn't even play on my crap player sometimes: if album too long or too heavy...or something - I remember knowing by looking @ them...I'm still getting off on Black Sabbath on CD!...

Avatar 2:13am
BadGuyZero:

There was a whole run of LCD Soundsystem's "Losing My Edge" 12-inch single that was pretty much guaranteed to make needles jump because of the bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another thing!: I think the 60s Renaissance demonstrates that if you make the Medium affordable - great music will be made & great sales figures too (unlike keeping CDs @ $17 & wondering why you didn't sell music) - granted the Economy was great then, if all the rest of Society was in turmoil in the 1960s...
Avatar 2:14am
Desert Lagoon Party:

Rabbit. I remember scotch-taping nickels or quarters on the needle arm, (depending on the level of bass or degree of warp on vinyl records)
No better memory in my life that sitting in the Pontiac Tempest listening to Black Sabbath on the 8-track with cheap Mexican weed smoke reducing visibility to near zero.

Recently found isolated tracks of instruments including guitar and bass tracks of Black Sabbath "Into the Void" very interesting.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am

- oh yeah! - curlicues of vinyl behind a weighted needle...
Avatar 2:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@KP: The early cut-off "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" that Joe McG played. My family's jukebox used to have a Steely Dan "Deacon Blues" 45, that also cut out early to fit the time length.
Avatar 2:22am
Whooda Hellameye:

Matt that is obscene to fade out early for time limit... but then again there were those horrible fade in and outs in 8-track and cassette that spanned track and side changes. Really pathetic.
Avatar 2:22am
BadGuyZero:

I had a few 8-tracks that had a song on it twice so that there wasn't minutes of silence at the end of one of the tracks. I hated when 8-tracks had a song split across two tracks.
