Gauzy skies over the isthmus today. Hello.
Avatar 9:09am Joe McG:

Hey, everybody! Brian, I feel there's an isthmus joke in me somewhere, but I can't find it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Parq:

This week's set follows especially nicely after the Martian intro.
Avatar 9:13am βrian:

Well, thisthmus not be your day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Parq:

Joe, will "Isthmus be the place" do?
Avatar 9:14am Joe McG:

@Brian @ Parq: Thank you, sirs. I knew I could count on you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am braveness23:

I don't know if it counts as spiritual pajamas but I got new long johns yesterday and I am wearing them now.
Avatar 9:18am tidalene:

Is the the studio microphone on?
Avatar 9:18am Joe McG:

Why "long johns" I wonder? Why not "long joes"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am braveness23:

I can definitely hear some "surface noise" in the background
Avatar 9:20am Joe McG:

@tidalene: Does it sound alright out there? We've been having some technical problems this week....

Good morning, Pi Gadget

Switching from stream to airwaves to check. So far so good.
Avatar 9:25am βrian:

We always called them long johnsons.
Avatar 9:25am Joe McG:

@Brian: If they were called that, EVERYONE would buy a pair.
Avatar 9:26am Marcel M:

Haha this is awesome!

Avatar 9:38am Joe McG:

Cheri Pi, are you pulling my leg?
Avatar 9:40am Cheri Pi:

Not in any way! I worship them, have since I was 14.
Avatar 9:41am Joe McG:

Wow, I'm going to call you Anabella now instead of Bailey!
  9:41am paula pc:

I saw Bow Wow Wow live in the mid-late 90s, and it was by far one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am common:

Cheri. I traded a liquid liquid lp for the first bow wow wow record and a missing persons record. Love em!
Avatar 9:42am Cheri Pi:

The last time I saw the Melvins this year Brian Walsby drew me a portrait of Annabella.
Avatar 9:42am Cheri Pi:

So funny common, Missing Persons was the first LP I bought with my own money!
Avatar 9:43am Cheri Pi:

Paula I saw them on that tour too, it was amazing!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am common:

that's a great first lp, cheri.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am braveness23:

jeez, I'm trying to remember what my first album purchase was...
Avatar 9:51am Cecile:

that Boston Incest record is now popular, but you could find it sealed for pennies for a long time
Avatar 9:52am Cecile:

Mine was Straight in a Gay, Gay World by Skyhooks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am braveness23:

One thing I know for sure is that whatever my first LP was, Cheri Pi probably now has it. Maybe The Police Zenyatta Mondatta. Actually it was probably a Beatles record but I'm thinking more along the lines of not mainstream stuff.
Avatar 9:53am Joe McG:

@Cecile: Intriguing first LP! Mine was the second album by the Tubes! No wonder I'm warped.
Avatar 9:54am Cecile:

yeah, exactly.
I listened to other albums, of course, and had my favorites. But that was purchased at an actual record store with my actual money.
Avatar 9:56am herb.nyc:

RUBINOOS! i so regret not going to the gym of my college, 1980(?), to see them, for they opened for ELVIS C & THE ATTRACTIONS. oh well. (offside - i had my stereo on EVAN F.D.'s show but the reception kept going in / out, beginning ~10.09pm. fook! why couldn't it have happened on 7SD instead??? life is so unfair. anyway, anyone have this problem?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am common:

jonathan, quit being so salty!
Avatar 10:00am Cecile:

no comment, jojo.
  10:03am lisa:

I'm really enjoying this set, Joe! It's making me want to listen to my Judys records. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am tim from champaign:

One of the 1st 45s I distinctly remember buying was "The Curly Shuffle". I'm thinking one of the first LPs I bought was Men At Work.
Avatar 10:06am Joe McG:

Cool, lisa! Ha ha ha, Tim! A lot of my friends had "Business As Usual" and "Cargo."
Avatar 10:08am Cecile:

Cargo has that amazingly poignant song "Overkill". I didn't like their earlier stuff, but that is a great pop song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am tim from champaign:

I think it was "Business As Usual" now that you mention the titles. I still wish I had the Curly Shuffle 45. That still gets some yucks amongst my friends when we name drop that side.
Avatar 10:09am Cecile:

I have that Bruce Springstone 45. It's actually has Tommy Keene (printed as Keen or Keane on the cover) and his producer Ted Nicely on it.
Avatar 10:11am Cecile:

nope, no Nicely, just Tommy Keene. good to know.
  10:12am lisa:

I particularly liked that Frozen Concentrate track. I'd never heard it or them before. Now I'm gonna have to track down that single.
  10:16am some other guy:

That El Congreso song sounds a lot like the the Happy End song Dakeshimitai from the same year. Maybe that's just what 1971 sounded like all 'round the world.
Avatar 10:16am Cecile:

some other, yeah, pretty much.
  10:17am earrie:

Gabor Szabo, ah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Parq:

Just seeing the name "Warner Bros-Seven Arts" is dreamily nostalgic. Late 60s pop music on top of it is enough to throw me off work for the whole morning.

Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

Hey, Faye! Thanks! @common/james: Yes, I was having a little Mason Williams rip-off fun.

Early 70s Iran must have been a scene. All of these Persian comps are super groovy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am tim from champaign:

Oops. Turkish. Sorry.... Same goes for the early 7os Turkey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am common:

i really wanted to see kiss of the damned because of the director and the great poster art...then i saw the trailer. P U! too bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am tim from champaign:

Sure, Joe, you read Penthouse just for the Jonathan Richman records.....
Avatar 10:34am Joe McG:

@tim: Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Guido (Cologne):

I've got an absolute marvelous kind of surf-beat-garage-single by the Turkish guy called Alpay. That was among a stack of Arabesque-singles and that on was an exception.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Parq:

Michael, some hippie thing, I take it?

Avatar 10:58am Cecile:

  10:59am KP:

Lovely DVR. Can't wait for the Coen bros movie.
Avatar 10:59am Joe McG:

@tim: You're right on top of it, sir. That's what made me dig this one out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Ike:

On a random note, want to hear about a crazy radio occurrence? This morning, WNYE-91.5 was apparently hijacked by racists for at least a few minutes. Normally they carry WFUV's "Alternate Side" indie music, but just before 7:30, it was a guy talking about how Palestinians are all actually from Jordan and belong there, and that Ariel Sharon is betraying Israel to the left wing (which would be quite a trick given his current condition). Then it abruptly goes back to A.S. in the middle of a song. Bizarre!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Parq:

Dang, Joe, you have SAHB's "Delilah" *and* Van Ronk's Joni cover on 45? You are some astute collector.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Mike Noble:

@quinn: hi Quinn La Monte
Avatar 11:00am Cecile:

this is definitely better than the original, I have to say.
Avatar 11:00am Joe McG:

@Parq: I wish my 45s were a little mintier, but I enjoy 'em! Glad you do, too.
