I don't like remaking foreign films. makes no sense to me. Why remake Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? Funny Games? Death at a Funeral? Oldboy? These were good movies the first time around and remaking them adds nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
Ike:

In response to the mic break -- I hear that Spike Lee's "Oldboy" was one of the biggest bombs EVER at the box office. Maybe fans of the original hated the idea a remake while others had no idea what to make of it...? "Out of the Furnace" hasn't done very well either.

Great music today!

Call me a corny sentimentalist, but I love this kind of music.
Avatar 5:09pm
steve:

tfc - me too. interestingly enough, he didn't put the "A Spike Lee Joint" sub title on the Oldboy posters or promo materials. people think he's trying to distance his name from it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
Mike East:

@Milson - Yes, which was weird, to me.
@glenn - I liked it, too, but I didn't think it added anything except for the lack of subtitles and a Trent Reznor soundtrack.
Avatar 5:10pm
Milson:

In regards to the "Phoenix" reissues... I think the same thing was said about the Radioactive label... somehow they seem related... maybe if distributors didn't prime the pump and obscure recording gatekeepers didn't beat the drum... this would all be moot... those of us with little spending power would be uninformed... those artist more obscure... the recordings heavily borrowed... but, who knows...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
tim from champaign:

I didn't notice that, steve. Very interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Ike:

There are loads of Spike Lee films I've never seen, but "25th Hour", with Edward Norton, is brilliant.
Avatar 5:14pm
Cecile:

I read somewhere that Lee liked the film, but was angry because the one fight scene he wanted to do in one take like the original, the studio made him put one cut in there.
