Hi, Doug! Been a long while, but hopefully our schedule today means Philo and I can be here at 6pm with all the bells and whistles. See ya soonish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Doug Schulkind:

@kat330
Howdy to you and Master P.
Avatar 5:43pm glenn:

oddly enough, i AM in my lazyboy. i tore a couple of rib muscles and it's the only place i'm comfortable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm sorry, glenn, you have to spell it La-Z-Boy, or the company will sue you.

Also, ouch! Feel better soon. I've strained rib muscles coughing. Very painful.
Avatar 5:49pm glenn:

right. for better or worse, i have perfect spell, and i pretty much hate creative misspelling in all it's forms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Doug Schulkind:

He who spelt it, dealt it.
Avatar 5:54pm kat330:

@glenn: And hate incorrect grammar in all ITS forms, too? ;)

Timing meal prep and watching the BBC's "South Pacific-- Ocean of Islands" for show start, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Just threw on some Hawaiian for you, kat330.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Gary:

Don't start without me!!!!!!<-------[infinity]
Avatar 5:57pm kat330:

YIPPEE! The Hawaiian segment was all about fruit flies and their mating habits. Whassup (<-- creative spelling) with that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
Quick, put on these safety goggles!
Avatar 5:58pm glenn:

ooops. i also hate the fact that i should be a better editor.
Avatar 5:59pm Philo Gristle:

Hello hello hello! Sounds Hawaiian allright.
Avatar 5:59pm kat330:

Aloha, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Doug Schulkind:

No worries, glenn, the Comments section is a no-worries-about-spelling-grammar-and-syntax zone.
Avatar 6:00pm ndbob:

heya Doug! Kat! Philo! Glenn!
Avatar 6:01pm kat330:

Just saw a ukulele on the VERY remote island of Anuta, as well as a housecat. Something tells me these items didn't evolve there.
Avatar 6:01pm kat330:

Hi, Bob! YOU brought this winter to these parts south, eh? ;)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm listener james from westwood:

love these side a/side b reunion shows!
Avatar 6:02pm ndbob:

@kat 'fraid so - though ND has been much colder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Doug Schulkind:

The best-known artist in this group is cornetist Mugsy Spanier.

Evening, ndbob! Howdy Listener James!
Avatar 6:04pm ndbob:

I never thought it would hit minus 10 in southern Indiana - weather I'm used to but....
Avatar 6:05pm glenn:

another thing i like about c.d.s is the repeat a-b function on some players. it makes learning a guitar part easier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

It's actually 22°F right now in Pittsburgh. Practically tropical. We got to -11 two weeks ago. (Yes, I am desperately trying to show off.)
Avatar 6:06pm Philo Gristle:

Kat's off in the kitchen, bringing in some supperb Chicken Tagine, with quinoa and other oodles of q-oodies.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm listener james from westwood:

the ipod touch sez 27 here in westwood, but i think that's high. supposed to hit 5 above just before dawn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Doug Schulkind:

'Allo Doctor Gristle!
Avatar 6:08pm ndbob:

I could show off in ND but not here:)
Avatar 6:09pm Philo Gristle:

Bas as the weather's been (-15, lowest), we've still been spared the worst. And of course, business as usual in the land of the Finns. Which is why tales of the South Seas are always appealing.
Avatar 6:09pm Philo Gristle:

'Hullo, Doug, sounding fabulous today.
Avatar 6:10pm kat330:

Fruit fly??? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Doug Schulkind:

I've got my eye on our poor friends across the drink. Awful flooding happening.
Avatar 6:12pm kat330:

NC liquor? Where's Holly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Gary:

Haaawwwwwwww-leeeeeeeeee ....
Avatar 6:13pm ndbob:

definitely not the time to be in parts of NC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Doug Schulkind:

I'll save her some in a Mason jar, kat330.
Avatar 6:14pm Aurélie E:

@Doug what do you mean by "pratically tropical"?
Avatar 6:15pm ndbob:

Heya Aurelie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Doug Schulkind:

@Aurélie
Oops, you caught me!
Avatar 6:17pm kat330:

However bad it's been here and there, we count our lucky stars we're in this strip right abutting the Ohio River that isn't quite as severe, either in temps or snowfall or ice.
Avatar 6:17pm ndbob:

what a great song
Avatar 6:18pm kat330:

Yep!
Avatar 6:18pm ndbob:

@kat we have had a bit more snow and ice then you have
Avatar 6:18pm Aurélie E:

@ndbob amen to that
Avatar 6:20pm hyde:

yikes, i need to go back and listen to that elder charles beck song. all i caught was that last blistering ten seconds
Avatar 6:20pm kat330:

@ndbob: About everyone did. Not minimizing it's been a helluva winter, but always trying to find the silver lining. (I'm sure it won't arrive in our next gas bill.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Gary:

I thought the rock & roll sermon couldn't be topped tonight. I am now being proven wrong
Avatar 6:24pm Aurélie E:

@doug such a gorgeous song thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Right up yer alley, Gary.

You're very welcome, Aurélie!
Avatar 6:25pm hyde:

the internets tell me that My Morning Jacket used a sample of this current song for a tune?!
Avatar 6:25pm Philo Gristle:

The Charles Beck song reminded me of that great tune, 'Wrapped Up & Tangled in Jesus' by....... Rev. Charles something.... I forget.
Avatar 6:26pm kat330:

@hyde: Really? MMJ's local to us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Reverend Charlie Jackson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Hy hyde!
Avatar 6:28pm Philo Gristle:

Ah, yes! Thanks, Doug.
Avatar 6:28pm ndbob:

@kat definitely didn't arrive in mine - made me glad that I'm used to ND winters, so that today seemed just fine - even tho it wads nine below this morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Doug Schulkind:

The wonderful Adam Lore of 50 Miles of Elbow Room has been resurrecting Rev. Jackson's music most lovingly: www.50milesofelbowroom.com...
Avatar 6:30pm kat330:

I think I heard our was +7, but they always include windchill which made it -3 purportedly. We are encouraged by bunny tracks in our remaining backyard snow, and we are feeding our feathered friends very well.
Avatar 6:31pm hyde:

@Doug hi. this show kills tonight!
Avatar 6:31pm Monica:

hola, doug! you're melting the icy intersections over here in sunnyside!
  6:31pm Slim_Pickin's:

Last song was a real mind blower... brrrrr, it felt good !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Gary:

Kung few :)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:32pm listener james from westwood:

i've used more heat this winter than in many recent ones. my neighbors pump theirs up starting in october, so usually i don't have a problem. but last january was out of control. layering up on the bedclothes is one thing, but the morning shuffle was an exercise in cryonics.
Avatar 6:32pm Philo Gristle:

Oh wow, I thought there were only a few singles ever recorded. That one and "God's Got It" -- but VERY glad to be proven wrong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of kung fu, I am most proud of my amazing daughter. She passed her latest "belt test," and is now a Blue Belt in kung fu. She is excited for the next level when they get to start defending against attackers with knives.

Hey Sunny M O N I C A!

And greetings, Slim_
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Gary:

I just paid $178 for a month of heat in a 400-sq-foot 1-bd apt
Avatar 6:33pm kat330:

We have always kept our thermostat at 66 or even less, even in more temperate winters, but I really dread our first bill from this freeze.
Avatar 6:35pm kat330:

@Gary: OUCH! Our highest bill ever -- for a house -- was around $130. And I do a lot of cooking with gas.
Avatar 6:35pm ndbob:

@Doug wow how great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Technically, this is Lee Perry on Part 2, but it is the flip side.
Avatar 6:35pm Holly in NC:

Holly in NC:
Hi Doug & all -
I will be quietly listening as I am waiting for my left eardrum to get it over with & rupture already, meantime I am stuck whimpering into this heating pad :-( Fucking ear infections. Ice pick is tempting....
Avatar 6:36pm ndbob:

@gary mine was a little more then that but my apartment is bigger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Gary:

@Holly :( ouch
Avatar 6:36pm ndbob:

wwo hello and sorry Holly
Avatar 6:37pm Holly in NC:

Oh hey huge congrats to Lincoln!
Avatar 6:37pm kat330:

HI, HOLLY! er, I mean hi, holly! Ewww, sorry to hear of your ear issue. :/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Gary:

Who's got the party tonight?
Avatar 6:39pm hyde:

bwahahaha i thought "hardy boys" right away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Good evening, Ms Holly!
Avatar 6:40pm kat330:

So I'm presuming no Shirley Temple tribute tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Doug Schulkind:

If these were the Hardy Boys, I would've read all 59 volumes of those hideous books.
Avatar 6:41pm glenn:

hey! the first franklin w. dixon was canadian, you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Doug Schulkind:

If Shirley Temple Black married Tyrone Power, would she have been Shirley Temple Black Power? (not an original)
Avatar 6:42pm Whooda:

@Holly, so sorry to hear about the ear. Ear and teeth ache torture rank second only to having bamboo splinters under fingernails.
Avatar 6:43pm kat330:

Ha! [upward fist thrust]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh my Holly! I just scrolled up to see what all the ouching was about. So sorry about your ear. The last time I had an ear infection like that, it kept me off the air right after 9/11. Get better soon.
Avatar 6:44pm ndbob:

@Doug I read about the first 45
Avatar 6:45pm kat330:

I Drew on Nancy myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Doug Schulkind:

That Party Boys record comes courtesy of the amazing Ana-B and her long dormant :( blog Singing Bones.
Avatar 6:45pm hyde:

@ndbob ditto
Avatar 6:45pm Whooda:

@DJ Doug Schulkind My dad was a Zenith dealer and I don't remember ever seeing that Cobra-matic, that has got to be a rarity.
Avatar 6:46pm kat330:

It's a beaut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Welcome aboard, Whooda! And Whooda's dad!
Avatar 6:46pm ndbob:

ah Singing Bones - great blog for sure
Avatar 6:46pm Aurélie E:

yay roshell anderson!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm listener james from westwood:

holly, hope the ear gets better and the pain abates quickly. those are no picnic.
Avatar 6:47pm Whooda:

Congrats to the daughter' shiny new blue belt, yep, getting darker, yes it is!
Avatar 6:48pm Holly in NC:

I assume everyone knows Shirley Temple's daughter Lori played bass in the Melvins , until her (ex) boyfriend Buzz kicked her out.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, ow.

I miss Ana/Singing Bones so much :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Blue Belt = she could have kicked my ass three belts ago.

@Holly
I invited Ana to do a show on the Drummer Stream, but then she went and had a baby and got busy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Gary:

I did not know that, Holly
Avatar 6:50pm glenn:

i didn't know that, but then, what i don't know about the melvins could fill the delaware water gap.
Avatar 6:51pm Whooda:

@That's interesting ST trivia. I always connect ST to the fact she turned down the part of Dorthy in the Wizard of OZ, I think it was written with her in mind, the movie would have been completely different but she would have been perfect as far as her personality would have allowed.
Avatar 6:51pm kat330:

Nor did I. Thanks for the 411, Holly. }}}}}}}}} warm, healing vibes to your ear.
Avatar 6:51pm ndbob:

wow Doug - what a great show that would have been
Avatar 6:51pm northguineahills:

Been enjoying the last 51 minutes, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Gary:

I just found her blog: desosquichante.blogspot.com ... holy crap ... it looks awesome
Avatar 6:52pm kat330:

Not pleasant info to share, but the news just mentioned that Tom Brokaw's undergoing cancer treatment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

And I think Buddy Ebsen was in line to be the first Tin Man.

@ndbob
I know, right!?!

@northguineahills
(Always) glad to have you on board!
Avatar 6:54pm ndbob:

@kat uhoh
Avatar 6:54pm kat330:

Yep, Ebsen was allergic to the makeup and had to bow out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
Singing Bones blog was one of the best. Ana shared music by expressing what it meant to her, rather than just listing details (not that I don't love details).
Avatar 6:55pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar 6:56pm kat330:

This Jombo IS pure pleasure.

Thanks, Doug, for this and the show.

G'night good folk, and an early H♥ppy V♥lentine's D♥y to you all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Doug Schulkind:
