need sleep...sleep sorry Therese...but thanks for playing Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Ken From Hyde Park:

This being Presidents Day, will you be playing something from The Presidents of the United States of America? They had a couple songs out in the early 90's. Evidently, they're still around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Therese:

Hello! There are tigers in Studio B!!
Avatar 12:09am BadGuyZero:

Of course there are!
  12:09am Tigers:

mrow, mrrrrow!
Avatar 12:09am Whooda:

Whatever you do DJ Therese, DON'T grab them by the tail.
  12:10am ted1964:

Thanks for playing orange Juice!! I'm impressed!!! This is awesome....
  12:12am Tigers:

mmmm...roaww? Hmm?
Avatar 12:12am Whooda:

A cougar you CAN grab by the tail. They like that.
  12:13am ted1964:

I'm listening here in Northern California, while working at the office.... love WFMU!!! I'm listening via TuneinRadio app.

grab it Baby, grab it! Faster, faster!
Avatar 12:14am Whooda:

@ted1964 Thanks for that info. didn't know FMU was on Tunein. I listen to WNCW in NC on Tunein with much satisfaction.
Swag For Life Member 12:21am phat:

Um. This Dusty version is ridiculously better than the familiar version. Figures, of course.
Avatar 12:23am egal:

Ridiculously better than Janis?
Swag For Life Member 12:26am phat:

Yes, way better than Janis. But then I had a roommate destroy Janis for me years ago.
  12:29am P-90:

uh, yeah, you know you've made a prominently questionable comment if egal surfaces to check you...
can't we just say Dusty's version is worthy without labelling it "ridiculously better" than BB&HC's original? It's President's Day fer Chrissakes, can't we have a little respect for all that's sacred?
  12:31am JakeGould:

Happy President’s Day Everyone! USA! USA! USA!
  12:31am Tigers:

...meaarwow, mrowww. Me-oww?

Has amEdeo's pink eye gone away? Or will Meredith Vieira be doing a show in his place?
Avatar 12:34am BadGuyZero:

It was 70+ degrees today in the metromess. *ugh*
Avatar 12:35am BadGuyZero:

I would prefer the weather you're having regardless of whether or not the sidewalks were shoveled.
Swag For Life Member 12:35am phat:

I really can't stand Janis.

Swag For Life Member 12:36am phat:

Dusty, on the other hand, I absolutely adore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am fleep:

Greetings Therese from Los Angeles, now home of the World's Longest Continuous Concrete Pour. The excitement here never stops.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Matt from Springfield:

Frozen ice on the sidewalks has gotten really bad around here! And I've run out of ice melt!

Hello Therese and friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Is there a webcam of that I can watch? It's like watching concrete dry!!
  12:39am jeff:

one of the best bands of all time. this record is killer. <3 renderers
  12:39am Tigers:

@phat, now you're just being willfully provocative
I entreat thee: hast thou nothing positive to say?
about anything? Indulge us, and ix-nay on the anus-Jay?
  12:40am Butthead:

heheheh, you said "anus"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am fleep:

@Matt It's a done deal, 80 million pounds in 18 hours. Maybe we should listen to The Cure while we watch it cure.
Avatar 12:42am Whooda:

Wow DJ Therese, you slammed it into high gear right outta the gate. Yeah!
Avatar 12:43am bEavis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am fleep:

It's Pinkeye the DJ Man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Matt from Springfield:

Nothing but listening to The Cure, watching a cure, and eating cured salami. Fitting after having Raced for the Cure.

@DJ Man: Fire good?!
  12:45am P-90:

@fleep: this new hotel, the 21,000 cubic yards of concrete, what used to be there in that part of downtown?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Ken From Hyde Park:

Has seawater-based concrete been invented yet? That would help conserve the scarce California fresh water.
Avatar 12:50am Whooda:

@DJ bEavis been missing ya 'round the old Zenith. Is your experiment with viewing the world with rose tinted eyes over?
  12:52am P-90:

So, Therese, did you have a nice Valentine's Day?
Did amEdeo take you to a dressy-uppy, white tablecloth and candlelight place for dinner, or was it the vintage video-game arcade again?
Avatar 12:52am BadGuyZero:

In case any of you missed it...yesterday's Cherry Blossom Clinic featured a live set by Pampers. Check it out when Therese isn't playing tunes.

Avatar 12:54am BadGuyZero:

This track by Infants reminds me of Brainiac!
  12:54am Lonely Planet Boy:

Thx BGZ. Will do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Therese:

OMG! That set was so good! AND tbey'll be playing our SXSW-adjacent show on 3/15!
Avatar 12:55am Whooda:

@BGZ I tuned into that Pampers set at the very end, had just woken up and the speakers slapped that morning face right off my head.
  12:56am P-90:

@whooda: nothing like getting slapped in the morning-face with dispoable diapers, oh I know
Avatar 12:57am Whooda:

haha :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am fleep:

@P-90 It replaces the Old Wilshire Grand
  12:59am P-90:

sure, "Pampers" and "Wipers" in the same set, what else
Avatar 1:01am BadGuyZero:

Volunteering at WFMU isn't just a good thing to do, it's also lots of fun!
Swag For Life Member 1:03am phat:

I've enjoyed every track in this set so far. is that positive enough?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Matt from Springfield:

Eh puppy, I got some "juice" for you, *guaranteed* to win..
  1:04am P-90:

OK, I see, their building a Wilshire Grand, where th pld one was. The old one wasnt really an important landmark or anything
Avatar 1:05am Whooda:

@fleep that's going to be a pretty swell looking glass tower.

The Koren's who are building it probably aren't very sentimental about old LA.
  1:06am Tigers:

Cheeeeeebo Mmmmmmmmmattoooo, mreaow!
Avatar 1:08am BadGuyZero:

Cibo Matto and Mucca Pazza should form a supergroup because that would be...umm...super!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Matt from Springfield:

Mucca Cibo Matto Pazza, jes like Mamma used to a make!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am Matt from Springfield:

Yay Waitresses, not-well known Waitresses especially!
  1:12am Tigers:

@ fleep: there are some things they should just leave alone, so I get scared when I hear about these projects, but that Wilshire Grand was no Beverly Wilshire or Hollywood Roosevelt. Or even the Bonaventure.
Avatar 1:13am Whooda:

P-90 and considering the new tower will have the worlds highest above ground swimming pool the crushing of everything meaningful seems like a small price to pay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am fleep:

@Whooda The previous hotel was a drab 50s thing, no loss, as Tigers just typed. There's a big Chinese project but that's a parking lot right now, so far no worthy architecture is going down, in fact, some are retrofitting (and gentrifying).
  1:15am Tigers:

I mean, meow meow Mr. Rogers, Mmmpreserving old LA is meaow meow mmmportant, like Huell meow Hauser used to say
  1:16am Sleepless in Montreal:

Tuning in now and this is the exact perfect song... Merci, Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Therese:

I think I may have liked that even more at 45 RPM...
  1:19am JakeGould:

Nice switch from 45 to 33.
Avatar 1:20am Whooda:

@fleep There is no doubt that demolition was a no-brainer in this case especially with the quake risks. Plus America, particularly LA, is about progress and appearances.

When I lived in Sacramento Safeway built a store over the Alhambra movie theater, a local landmark, and many locals refused to shop there.
  1:20am JakeGould:

I thought that was some cool punk girl group at 45.
  1:22am JakeGould:

Why are we talking about L.A. architecture?
Avatar 1:23am Whooda:

Jake, there is civilization west of Connecticut ya know. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am fleep:

Some fishbreath bragged about concrete.
  1:24am P- niner zero, dammnit:

sorry, still trying to get the feel for the "switching personae" feature on the FMU Mobile App, and if you see a lot of typos in my posts, its 'cause of this durn thing too
(Disclaimer: "Tigers" and I is just good friends)

@whoo: like the cetacean says, that particular building and corner downtown did not have a lot of irreplaceable character, that 's why I was relieved. In the future, though, they are gonna wonder why some really unigue things couldn't just be set aside, you know what I mean
Avatar 1:25am Whooda:

I guess the combination of CA drought and the Wiltshire swimming pool, makes the building the worlds tallest water tower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Matt from Springfield:

Pledge your cosmic sand dollars to WFMU this Marathon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am fleep:

The worrisome project is in Hollywood, it will surround and dwarf the Capitol Records building, far too tall and outsize for that neighborhood - and smack on top of an earthquake fault (the developers kind of sort of didn't check).
  1:27am JakeGould:

Talk to me about Chattanooga Tennessee. That’s west of here. And they have a strong tech hub happening. Thinking that might be a place.
Avatar 1:28am Whooda:

Old Comer Records. Classic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like a surf version of "Tusk"!
Avatar 1:29am BadGuyZero:

Therese, did you hear that Jarvis Cocker is giving a lecture about songwriting at SXSW. There's a new Pulp documentary making its world premiere at SXSW as well.
Avatar 1:30am Whooda:

You have a good ear Matt (I didn't say "pretty ear" so don't get any big idears.
  1:33am P-90:

@whoo & fleep: I've been saying this for years, when the long overdue Big One quake hits Southern California, it's water that's going to be the
most critical issue, there'll be all kinds of problems there, but all thr fresh water comes into the LA basin from a single aqueduct, and when that breaks, you'll have this enormous population in crisis, and no way to bring adequate fresh water in to support it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am fleep:

@JakeGould You leave the Pennsylvania Station 'bout a quarter to four, read a magazine and then you're in Baltimore...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Matt from Springfield:

@Whooda: My right ear is pleased at your compliment! It's a fine-tuned listener. Though my left ear is more vain, and just sunk down to sulk and stew...
  1:34am Butthead:

heheheh, you said "Sex Clark"
Avatar 1:35am Whooda:

Yes, P-90 Water rights are a big factor in Northern CA efforts to secede from the South.
  1:35am JakeGould:

Not the choo-choo. The culture. Curious to see of there’s any culture there that I can agree with.
Avatar 1:39am Whooda:

@Jake East Tennessee is real purdy and the Smokey Mountains are heavenly but just over the border from Chatanooga is Ashville, NC. which is already well established for music and arts...plus it's in NC.
  1:40am JakeGould:

Ahhh, okay. I just want to make sure. Since it’s Southish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: It is "South-ish"...Chattanooga's no Nashville, and certainly not an Atlanta, but it's a nice area with low costs of living.
  1:43am Butthead:

@ fleep : what, they're building some behemoth at Hollywood and Vine that will "dwarf and surround the Capitol Records building"? That should be sacred-cow turf, that's just the kind of thing that should be forbidden, I dont even want to Google it, I'll get too pissed off
  1:44am P-90, I mean:

Avatar 1:47am Whooda:

Jake The tri-city area in NC (Chapel Hill area I think) is already a high-technology corridor too it's in the Piedmont, the geographical area between the mountains and sand dunes of the Atlantic coast. Ashville is in multicultural in the Blue Ridge Mountains, GORGEOUS, but quickly becoming over populated an gentrified, too much for my tastes. Though plenty of open space all around everywhere out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am Matt from Springfield:

Tarzan...followed by JANE!!! I see what you did there!! I see, I see!!!

But seriously, what a pretty vocal, and a cappella too!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am Therese:

Serendipity, Matt!
Avatar 1:51am BadGuyZero:

Are there now cheetahs in Studio B?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am fleep:

@Butthead It's called the Millenium Project, it's pissing off many mammals la.curbed.com...
Avatar 1:52am Whooda:

@Jake I had a house in Kings Mountain, NC, near Charlotte and loved nothing more that day trips on my motorbike into the mountains between NC and TN. Check out the Dragons Tail at Deals Gap.
  1:52am JakeGould:

No disrespect to Los Angeles, but it’s already a spread of a mess. So who cares? They don’t.
  1:54am JakeGould:

Cool stuff, Whooda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Matt from Springfield:

L. Cohen!
Sincerely, from the Isle of Wight festival, this is one of my all time fave live performances. So minimal, yet magical--this is Leonard as he should be heard.
  1:57am P-90:

@jake, you should ride your choo-choo out there some time, there's a lot thats worth saving and an abundance of land to build whatever new shit anyone could want without crushing the irreplaceable past. And the locals do care, very much, it's the politico$ who find excuses to sell them out
Avatar 2:00am BadGuyZero:

Stop living in the future!
Avatar 2:02am BadGuyZero:

CLARIFICATION: I was flipping the whole "stop living in the past" thing people say. I want you to continue living for a long, long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Matt from Springfield:

Stop living in the present--start living in the future, before it creeps up on ya and becomes the past!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Matt from Springfield:

Oh good Lord--I don't know what this is yet but I'm already Clicky-Starring it! 70s synth zone outs! The hazy future is the stoned past! Or, something!...
Avatar 2:05am Whooda:

@BGZ haha. Good thing you clarified that.
  2:06am ?:

A space probe in the outer wrapper reports that this signal "♬♩♬♪♩♬♫" was intercepted from WFMU
  2:06am P-90:

who's version?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: From you pushing play to me favoriting the last track, you've earned the winning time! With 0.2 s, although to be fair that's the fastest I can start and stop my stopwatch...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am Therese:

Yes! I WIN!!!!
Avatar 2:12am Whooda:

@fleep, what could possibly go wrong in building a skyscraper directly over an active fault line, just for good measure they should include an nuclear power plant on the site too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: You receive the GOLD!...Starbucks gift card! Or, any color you'd like instead!
Avatar 2:16am KP:

Therese, it was a fun ride for us all the way up pike from Va. Thanks
  2:19am Steveroo:

what a song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Matt from Springfield:

Hey KP! In honor of NJ hosting the Super Bowl, did you stop at the St. Vince Lombardi Service Area?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am Therese:

That service area is basically another stadium concession.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am Matt from Springfield:

Oh yeah, that's almost at the stadium. Appropos I guess.
Also, I make sure to add "Saint" before listing service areas, since that's the highest honor New Jersey can bestow on one of its own! :)
  2:32am P-90:

if by "service areas" you mean "roadside toilet facilities"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Matt from Springfield:

Why so wild, child??
Avatar 2:34am BadGuyZero:

I think it's "owl;" their website is owlbrotherhood.net.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Hey! Don't forget the Roy Rogers restaurants! Even if you're veg, you can buy a biscuit there, and take some tomatoes from their Fixins Bar for a satisfying cheap snack!

(I can also provide a comprehensive history of said chain, on request..)
Avatar 2:36am BadGuyZero:

There's a metal band from Austin called Ancient Wisdom that spells it V-V-I-S-D-O-M. I guess it's some name/spelling variation fad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am Matt from Springfield:

Whoa whoa WOW! Yes, Space Lady!
Excellent choice of song for her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Ancient typeface, interesting choice.

Yeah Space Lady!
  2:43am P-90:

@BGZ: unless it's an oblique reference to Voivod(?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am Matt from Springfield:

Space Lady into Haden Triplets, NICE!

@P-90: Ooof! :P
Avatar 2:45am BadGuyZero:

Regardless of how it's pronounced, it was nice of Therese to play it. That's something that 99% of the radio stations in the U.S. won't do. And at least one of her proposed pronunciations was correct.

The ball crawl at Pizza Rat is a festering petri dish of bodily fluids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am Matt from Springfield:

@Whooda: I'm fortunate to have a few branches of Roys pretty close by. The indie franchise now operating them is based in Frederick, MD--if people are jonesin' for a Roy's Roast Beef, there are like SEVEN locations in that area! Take 95 down to 70 and go westward!
