Hi Diane! Way to kick it out in honor of the great Bob 2!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm coe:

'ello folks
DK knew I could depend on you to give Bob2 his due.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I predict great things with today's fun machine.
Avatar 12:05pm Cecile:

Diane, this has been a terrible year in Devo for you. I'm sorry.
  12:06pm P-90:

Hi DJ Diane K! Yes, thanks for the Devo lead-off.
Eagerly anticipating your pair-up (duet?!) with Mr. Hearty White
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm common:

knew it was gonna be a devo day. rip bob2.
Avatar 12:07pm MikeY:

I never knew this was a Devo song I hear it once in while. At work
Avatar 12:08pm SmokinJ:

Devo rule! Thanks Diane!
Avatar 12:08pm MikeY:

I saw them a few years back I think At Turning Stone casino
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm mariano:

RIP Bob C. Hard to believe two of them are gone.
Avatar 12:10pm Cecile:

Can U play Girl U Want?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Guido (Cologne):

Hi Diane!
Thanks for DEVO !
Avatar 12:11pm MikeY:

I have uncontrollable Urge myself.... wings and beer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm common:

my favorite cover song ever! thanks diane!
  12:11pm P-90:

re: "Rage": This was the first Devo song we heard in high school at the end of the seventies, it came slicing right through the bloated dinosaurian Album-Rockosphere just the way it was intended to.
Avatar 12:12pm MikeY:

I saw this preformed on Howard Cosell's ill fated TV show years ago I was about 14 man flashback city
  12:12pm P-90:

Not "Rage" , "Urge". ---"rage" is how I feel about Bob 2 checking out so soon
Avatar 12:13pm Luna:

Greetings! DEVOtastic day to you all!
Avatar 12:13pm Cecile:

you are right P-90 - did you see it on SNL?

Diane, I have sponsored you for another year.
  12:13pm Robert:

Maybe 4-5 yrs. ago a WFMU DJ played a partially-Spanish version of "Satisfaction" that I really liked. Better than this one, sorry, and also better than the original. It had horns and plucked & bowed strings, and a solo singer.
Avatar 12:14pm V Priceless:

fab tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm mariano:

If you're taking requests, how about "Peek-a-Boo!"?
  12:15pm Robert:

He sang the refrain in English, the rest in Spanish, I think (or English so bad I couldn't make it out).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coe:

I was talking to a friend the other day that one of my top ten live music experiences was seeing Devo perform Gates of Steel at McCarren Pool in 2008
Avatar 12:16pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm coe:

Cheri is going to be so bummed she missed the Devo set.
  12:17pm Robert:

It captured the emotion of "Satisfaction" better than either Devo or Stone version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Rich in Washington:

Devo was the first rock concert I ever attended, back when being a Devo fan could get your ass kicked by feathered-haired douchebags and hillbillies alike.
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

Gates of Steel is pretty perfect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm steve:

coe - i was there also! i agree, it was one of the best shows ever! also i caught the banana that Mark M threw into the crowd at the end, which somehow made it all even better.
  12:18pm Tom:

Thanks for all the Devo, Diane. The reason SUCKS tho. "Mongoloid" would be nice to play...the single version on Stiff beats the LP version by a mile. Have a great show.
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

  12:18pm Robert:

Then again, I've been told EVERYBODY else's version of "Satisfaction" is better than Stones.
Avatar 12:19pm Luna:

feathered-haired douchebags, haha
Avatar 12:20pm Cecile:

In the midwest, the two weird groups that it was kind of OK to like were Devo and the Cars.
  12:21pm P-90:

@Cecile: first the album cane out and was polarizing-- funny to think of high school kids being "polarized" by an album, but you know how opinionated kids are about their music. Like I said above, that was at the end of the Fleetwood Mac/Eagles/British arena acts/etc. cycle of domination, and although we'd been tracking Punk and infant New Wave on our radars for a few years by then, that album sounded SO Rock n Roll and SO not like those huge AOR-type acts, the statement was unavoidable, the timing was perfect.
THEN we saw them on SNL and got the visuals....and oh BOY
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Rich in Washington:

In the NW in the late 70s/early 80s, if you didn't have designer jeans or look like a logger, people would throw shit and yell DEVO! at you from customized pickups.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm joe:

@steve that show was proof that sometimes reunions do not suck.
Avatar 12:23pm Cecile:

my response was my jaw dropped and it took about a year for me to process it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm coe:

@cecile why does that not surprise me about devo and cars. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm maestroso:

Playing in a cover band in the midwest in the 80's... we had to play "Whip it" multiple times per night.
  12:23pm P-90:

also@Cecile: and thanks for sponsoring Diane K :)

Record Store Day - Devo releasing Max's Kansas City Live set vinyl from '77 w/Bowie intros - limited to 2000 copies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

I remember seeing Devo at Portland OR theatre The Paramount and I guess Van Halen were also playing at the colosseum and dudes would drive by in their pickups, firebirds, vans, etc and yell stuff like "hey fagoots! Why don't you go see Van Halen instead?!"
Avatar 12:25pm Cecile:

coe - Ohio and Michigan and Illinois are filled with secret cults of weirdness. Also, we like anyting British or that sounds British.
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

thanks, P-90!
Avatar 12:26pm V Priceless:

Yes!!! Twist & Shout!!
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

It's quite exotic to us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm coe:

@cecile I've always had a secret love for Ohio. I don't think I could live there. But there something in the water besides the flammable stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm coe:

I remember getting my first apartment with my sweetie (and a roommate) in '80, and going out and buying Freedom of Choice, BLack Market Clash, and a dozen Italian cookies from the bakery we lived above.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm common:

I remember seeing DEVO spray painted on a stop sign when I was a kid. I had to know what it meant. then...ah, mr. dna!
Avatar 12:30pm V Priceless:

@ coe - yeah..."Gates" is a goosebumper all the way through! As is...THIS!

Something in the ether drove me to this site. Thanks for all the Devo, Diane! I've seen Devo three times since the 80s, most recently last summer opening for Blondie.

Avatar 1:17pm Cecile:

max, I think he's stressing that it was harder with less power and megabytes.
Avatar 1:17pm Cheri Pi:

who tells someone to stop talking? the topic is not trivial especially as they are describing their lives to others who don't know?
Avatar 1:17pm Luna:

Ha! "Anything at Roadburn!" Indeed.
  1:18pm P-90:

re: technology and "dragging an organ up a mountain": there was so much attention paid when Greatful Dead dragged all their crap to the pyramids in Egypt to record there, it was such a Quixotic thing to try at the time. Nowadays, would be no problem, everything so compact, portable, digitized, "roadworthy"
  1:18pm LovecraftDude888:

I one had a Radio Shack TRSash80 PC and whoahhh it suckedddd! haha

My guess on the heaviest note in LOTW? The two bar section before the first time the 'verse riff' shows up.
Avatar 1:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Terribly late to the party, as usual.
Good to see the Devo set up there. I blasted New Traditionalists for the dog yesterday. Perhaps not their best, but it was my entry-point LP, when it was new. A fully guiltless pleasure.

started in the late 60ies as German Bonds.
Singer later with Uriah Heep ...
... and Les Humphres Singers ... hehe
Avatar 2:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...and holy hell, yes, Lucifer's Friend! I was just watching some LF on german tv footage yesterday, recalling the mighty-ness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Guido (Cologne):

... the early LF were something .. yes!
Avatar 2:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...from a krautrock DVD scored in London a while back. Great stuff. Brilliant footage of early Frumpy [Inga, i swoon]...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Guido (Cologne):

I Think you have the Kraut Rock Nacht ...
... or some Beat Club DVD ..
Avatar 2:09pm dale:

i would think a stout is bitter enough without rhubarb - cranberry version probably a better outcome. dried elderberries would be interesting too.
Avatar 2:11pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Guido: it's a compilation of mostly Beat Club clips. Love all that chroma-key background effects. So cheesy good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Guido (Cologne):

Hahaha ... Mike Leckebusch directing ...
... they got lot of complaints at the time like ...
"Do you really think all your watchers smoke pot?"
Avatar 2:17pm dale:

type o played a show at my county fair back in 1995 - one of the best shows i ever saw, great stage show with huge video screens behind.
Avatar 2:19pm dale:

EDIT. the opened for queensryche - THEY had the video show

DK I got my schedule in late this year and missed both chances to be on your shift :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Cory:

damn, i wish i could cook for you guys...
Avatar 2:31pm Cecile:

wow this is an oldie!
Avatar 2:31pm PKNY:

Never heard the original version of "Evil Woman" before, very horn-y. I saw a copy of this record recently; if this is indicative of the rest of the tracks, I'm glad I left it there.
Avatar 2:31pm Jim:

good choice of songs..
Avatar 2:32pm PKNY:

The singer is very Gary Puckett-esque. I'm half-expecting him to start singing about underage girls any second now.
Avatar 2:32pm V Priceless:

smashing show today, DK!
Avatar 2:33pm Cecile:

It's early hard rock. Still trying to figure out the sound
Avatar 2:33pm Jim:

don't hate on Lil" Steven and the Porcupines. I like this song.
Avatar 2:38pm Jim:

This is a little less prog rock than the stuff I have
Avatar 2:39pm Cecile:

this is from the years where Steven was hanging out with Opeth all the time.
Avatar 2:40pm Jim:

I thought that was STORM CORROSION
Avatar 2:40pm Cheri Pi:

I call dibs on his peplum
Avatar 2:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Peplum for a dewlap. Fair's fair.
Avatar 2:41pm V Priceless:

I'm thinking "Complain" / Kings X would fit in nicely here!
  2:42pm Vincent:

Was difficult to find the interactive playlist. Is there a general link to click each week to access it?
Anyway, nice to hear you again. Has been a long time! Dead Babies song kills!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Cory:

Avatar 2:43pm Cheri Pi:

Mellotron-call hunting is good in these parts. I bagged 3 proggy producers at deer camp.
Avatar 2:43pm V Priceless:

Avatar 2:44pm Jim:

I think I know what's coming up in the next 15 minutes..but I won't say it..you will know when it's here
Avatar 2:45pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm coe:

@vincent it should be on the front page under the picture of the day
Avatar 2:47pm Cecile:

ugh, controversial women's skating final. Inflated score. The new system was supposed to stop that. *pouts*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Mike East:

@Vincent - go to www.wfmu.org - about halfway down the page, under where it says "Now Playing," there's a link that says "playlist/comments" - that will get you to the playlist page for whatever show is currently playing.
  2:49pm Vincent:
