you're welcome, Ernest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Big Tubb of love to you all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
It has been scientifically proven that Stream listeners have an extra X and and extra Y Drummasome.
Avatar 6:00pm ndbob:

evening Doug and everyone!

That would explain my calico coat!
Good later-on-Tuesday, Doug and all!

Drummasome: rhymes with rhizome?
Avatar 6:02pm Carmichael:

My late father-in-law's favorite musician. Heya Doug and drummees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Doug, for your comments Sunday night. It was cool to ID the folks in the old videos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Sorry about that crummy alignment, Gary.

@Carmichael
Hey der bruddah! Did you see that there IS a video archive of Sunday night? The link was on the WFMU homepage.
Avatar 6:05pm ndbob:

Certainly a lovely day here - sunny and 71
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm listener james from westwood:

That'll give a body hope for spring, that 71.
Avatar 6:06pm Carmichael:

Yes I did, Doug, thanks. It will be thoroughly scrutinized many times over!

Hey, did Bas get hold of you regarding an obscure Congolese (perhaps) song ID? I told him you were knowledgeable in that area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Nope not yet. I have yet to converse with the ubiquitous and extraordinary Bas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Doug Schulkind:

NWS says we're getting 4 inches of snow tomorrow night. Hahahaha! That's a funny one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Stanley:

Hi Doug and fellow listeners.
Funny it was a fine Spring day here in Edinburgh, too.
Maybe the good marathon vibes are spreading around the world!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Gary:

It's 64 here and the app on my phone says "feels like 64," which makes me think they need to factor in the previous week or two's temps for "true" "feels like."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Fine meeting you here, Stanley!

Take a screenshot of that, Gary, or no one will believe you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Doug Schulkind:

In addition to trumpet and flügelhorn, Mr. Daniels blows into a French hunting horn and Moroccan bugle on this record. Just thought you'd want to know.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:28pm listener james from westwood:

I keep expecting to hear that the record we're hearing will be up as a prize for a pledge of $15 or more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Doug Schulkind:

The rest of this song is a prize going out to all who pledge $0.
Avatar 6:29pm hyde:

this ted daniel tune is fantastic, though it needs more Moroccan bugle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Or at least some Moroccan bügle.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Jeff Golick:

GOODNESS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of French hunting horn, here's a fun fact: Laurie Anderson's family was a wealthy lot the used to go on old-time fox hunts (with the red jackets and the beagles and such) in the Illinois countryside. My wife once went on a hunt and said it was A GAS. (No foxes were harmed in the making of this comment.)
Avatar 6:33pm Carmichael:

Is there a Moroccan cowbell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

And a Moroccan dog whistle. Both are rocking the top of this playlist.
Avatar 6:35pm ndbob:

wow Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

The fabulous drummer Thurman Barker was just playing marimba. Marty Erlich is handling all the woodwinds. Lindberg is solo across the Atlantic on bass.
Avatar 6:38pm hyde:

@Jeff Golick by the way, the stream dropouts during your show yesterday were mildly annoying but also led to some spectacular dada jazz moments
Avatar 6:40pm Carmichael:

I've always wondered about vibraphonists: would their background be in percussion or keyboards? Both?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm listener james from westwood:

That Beckett was bloody amazing.
Avatar 6:43pm hyde:

Flare Up is a live link if anyone's interested: inconstantsol.blogspot.com...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Jeff Golick:

@hyde: Well, thanks for hanging tough. I tried listening to the archived version of the show -- ostensibly to see if the glitches carried over to the recorded version -- and couldn't last very long myself. (Sadly, those audio hiccups are all over the archived show.)

@Carmichael: my unscientific, totally anecdotal and faintly remembered sense of vibraphonists is that they are more likely to double on drums/percussion.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Jeff Golick:

@hyde: sweet link -- thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks hyde! I had no idea that was available!
Avatar 6:48pm Carmichael:

This sounds suspiciously like "(I Want to Marry) A Fine Irish Boy". Remember it from my choldhood.
Avatar 6:51pm Carmichael:

My cold childhood ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Doug Schulkind:

@Carmichael
Vibes players are more often drummers than pianists.

Whoo, got here for the last few minutes after din-din.
Avatar 6:53pm ndbob:

Hello UM!
Avatar 6:53pm hyde:

@Jeff yeah, it was the archived one I listened to. But I'm a surrealist at heart.

@Doug I also saw there was once a Mining the Motherlode link to the Beckett in my search! (p.s. I miss the Motherlode)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

What are we having, northguineahills?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello Brother Uncle!

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Ride home safe, Jeff!
Avatar 6:58pm ndbob:

@Gary there's a food delivery service here in Bloomington that picks up form lots of restaurants
Avatar 6:58pm ndbob:

definitely not available in North Dakota

  10:20am heinz:

Hello Doug,
I have not visited you place for some time. I feel at home right away though.
I am going to read your http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2014/02/uncle-bernie-novelty-mart-and-frank-zappa-in-the-comics.html . I have been listening to '70-'76 Zappa last couple of weeks. With George Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth Underwood, Jean Luc Ponty etc. Much is on youtube that I never heard before.
Do you like that stuff?
