Recently had the "what if he had lived" convo about Buddy Holly with Dave the Spazz. topics: would he have had a mustache? would he have been in the traveling wilburys?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm

I have a friend that's sure James Dean would have appeared on The Love Boat.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm

Part of me feels Buddy would've went the way of Johnny Burnette. But I could be wrong! The other part that he could've had a career like the Everly's and championed by the Brits and Sunset Strip scenes.

buddy holly would have been jimi hendrix before jimi hendrix. or something.

Whoa! Andy, I didn't know that but I just happen to have a Lightnin' Slim record picked out for today's show! Probly in the last set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm

Another theory is that Buddy would have been Doug Sahm before Doug Sahm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Uncle Michael:

A live version of The Gift kind of blows my tiny mind.
Avatar 2:23pm
Holly in NC:

Oh man, I can't imagine anyone outDouging Doug Sahm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Uncle Michael:

Buddy might have spent the '60s making records with Billy Sherrill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm

Chet Atkins might have gotten his mitts on him too.

Is this "The Gift" strictly instrumental, or am I short a speaker?

Little known fact, "The Gift" was called "The Hobbit" before the Tolkien estate intervened. It was composed for a Pickwick-produced educational filmstrip.

March 13th: On this Day (select)

1960, Johnny Preston was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Running Bear', also No.1 in the US.

1965, Eric Clapton quit The Yardbirds due to musical differences with the other band members.

1966, Rod Stewart left the British blues band Steampacket to work as a solo artist.

1966, Pink Floyd appeared for the first time at The Marquee in Wardour Street, London, England.

1977, Iggy Pop and David Bowie kicked off a North American tour at Le Plateau Theatre, Montreal, Canada with Blondie as the opening act.

2006, The Sex Pistols refused to attend their own induction into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. . Blondie, Herb Alpert and Black Sabbath were all inducted but the Pistols posted a handwritten note on their website, calling the institution "urine in wine", adding "We're not your monkeys, we're not coming. You're not paying attention".

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm

George Jones does a great Running Bear.
  2:46pm
Doug Schulkind:

Penn and Oldham magnificence!
  2:47pm
drr:

Matt: that's nothing! The one that gets me is how Reed and Cale hired LaMonte Young to do some arranging, just as a favor, not even a real recording date, but the lead sheets survived and were the basis for the Trammps' "Disco Inferno".

DUKEPARK] Missing Hipster Poodle boy....
To DUKEPARK@yahoogroups.com

My black and white poodle boy Algonquin has somehow gotten away and is (hopefully) roaming the neighborhood. If you've seen him (he's a small black and white poodle with a mohawk and a goatee) please (PLEASE PLEASE!) email us to come and get him or return him to us at 2604 N. Roxboro Street. He just had dental surgery on Wednesday and still needs his antibiotics and pain killers.
