Favoriting April 7, 2014: A Celebration of Shulkoth! Communiqués with the dearly depared Citizen Kafka.

photomontage: Marty Cutler

As Edward Haber, one of Citizen Kafka's co-conspirators says, "Based on the lunar calendar, the celebration of Shulcoth has arrived. To determine the actual date, Mr. "Angry" Red Weltz commented thusly: “I've rolled the shards of 3 Boswell Sisters 78s, studied the entrails of a Howdy Doody hand puppet and read the soy sauce smears on a Wo Hop lo mein plate. All the signs say April 7th”. And so it shall be-- another celebration of the dearly departed Citizen Kafka on Irene's show, featuring Edward Haber, Kenny Kosek and Marty Cutler and a cast of???.

H'Irene and hi all Trues to come.

Not exactly live, not exactly WBAI, but I remember these ridiculous fun shows!

Nice beginning! Good almost noon for everybody!

Okay, here's a question. If I want to listen to some of Citz K's FMU archives, and I don't want to download Real Audio, is there any other player that will run the RA format? Sorry to get this geeky this early in the proceedings.

Hi Irene, everyone -- thanks for the much needed dose of merriment!

This probably wasn't the ideal day to be late, looks like. Oops.

But the Cherry Blossoms needed a shoulder to cry on. The weather has them pretty confused.

Yes, humor is the antidote here for a very rainy day and Monday and just back from the County Clerk's office where nobody -- I mean NO ONE -- had a smile on her face.

Webhamster Henry:

@Parq: you can use VLC .. do "Open Network", paste the link from the archive into the "Network" url
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Irene Trudel:

@Parq, use VLC. It works for all of those files, Mac or PC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Webhamster Henry:

VLC can be little choppy though. I used to keep an old version of realplayer around that didn't have so many ads, but I bet it doesn't work anymore.
Avatar 12:14pm
drumsoverbogota:

It's normal for a non-english native speaker not understand a lot of things in this program?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm

Approx when did this Citizen K stuff originally air?
Avatar 12:14pm

@drums: I'd almost guarantee it.

hi kat330! all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Parq:

Harry, thanks. I know that files can skip on VLC, but that sounds like a good solution for the occasions when I want to hear a really old FMU archive show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Irene Trudel:

@ drumsoverbogota, yes. And even some native speakers might not understand the language. We will translate presently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Ike:

I didn't know that VLC could do that. I used to use Real Alternative with Media Player Classic for old RealAudio files.

That bit about solid rocketry was true. I'm still trying to get my homemade black powder & whistle rockets to fly consistently rather than either exploding, fizzling, or flying at the audience.

I have not attempted the wire method of charging as given in that recorded bit.

You have to hear these in the context of WBAI's community Bulletin board and promotional carts.
Avatar 12:58pm
kat330:

I'm amazed how much works outside of context.
Avatar 12:58pm
Cecile:

it is quite funny, if you've ever heard a community bulletin board anywhere, Henry. I used to edit those things back in the day for a smalltown NPR station. YOu wouldn't believe what people thought were events.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Webhamster Henry:

Agreed, but at WBAI, the events were things like this: www.echonyc.com...
Avatar 1:02pm

I"ll have to listen to that when I have a minute.
