Good morning Dave!
I was nine years old in 1996.
That was fun, mostly, if I remember correctly.

@HarktheUmpire: By 1996 I was already working and had given up too things for good: wearing ties and getting haircuts
Avatar 6:11am
HarktheUmpire:

Goeiedag Guido!

@Dave: are you referring to an LSD trip?
@fred: no relapses in the last 18 years?
Avatar 6:13am

good Morning fred dave ... happy easter days off !
Avatar 6:14am
Dave Bombay:

@Hark - I am referring to my state of molecular being during 1996. It was a complicated time.

Good morning Guido & Jay!

@HarktheUmpire: none, I've been clean and fully intend to remain so (the haircut thing is in the process of getting irrelevant anyway)

"A Love Supreme," only the greatest album ever made, probably. The perfect choice as the sun comes up on Good Friday.

Thank you mark! I 100% agree.

@fred: Congratulations! :)
I admire your persistence, especially in our hair-obsessed times.

I have nothing against a good colourful tie though.

Thank you 4 the links Sem. I'm afrais I never appreciated German the way I propable should. Though I was somewhat in touch with the scene in the 90ies.

Here a film about 80ies cassette culture (where I also was involved in). Haven't seen it yet, but the trailer is quite promissing: vimeo.com...
And this is the whole feature: vimeo.com...
(I will watch the tresor film as well. Thanks again Sem.)

Legendary and long lasting psychedelic/spacerock band, call it "British Krautrock" if you want. Once featured Lemmy Kilmister long before he startet Motörehad.
Avatar 7:34am
HarktheUmpire:

That's going to be educational then. A big gap in my knowledge.
I probably won't call it British Krautrock too soon though, they'd have to be pretty amazing to live up to that name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am
Sem Chumbo:

The Bombay 45's jukebox is rockin' the stream this *good* Friday. www.hell-cat.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am
Guido from Cologne:

"British Krautrock" is a quotation from shindig magazine.

"krautrock" was kinda swearname back in the 70ies in Germany
And it was less adressed to the experimental bands but rather to some prog/AOR in the shadow of UK/US competitors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am
Guido from Cologne:

Yeah! Really dig the punk jukebox!
Avatar 7:47am
HarktheUmpire:

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was aimed at Can, Faust, Neu and all.

Wonderful. I like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am
Guido from Cologne:

@hark
That is the Julian Cope kinda view on that name.

Though:
Faust and Neu were not really taken seriousely by larger parts of German music scholars.
Avatar 7:56am
HarktheUmpire:

I am blissfully unaware of the opinions of German music scholars, but if not Faust and Neu, then who did they take seriously?
  7:58am
169barMEGAfanJPEE:

What about an Altered Commonwealth?

J Patlen is God:

Big fan of that space alien song. I listened to it within an Altered Colony.

Only his number 1 fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am
Guido from Cologne:

stay blissful! Germn music scholars of several generations could be obnoxious for several reasons.

Kraan, Grobschnitt, Lake, Lindenberg ... well, what does it tell us nowß
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am
Guido from Cologne:

Guardian Alien is awesome.
This "perfec"-?? also
Avatar 8:04am
Dave Bombay:

Hahaha! Well welcome one and all!
  8:04am
J Patlen is Danzig:

I know there's not a whif of Danzig anywhere on this playlist but I awoke this morning with Danzig on the mind and can't help but wonder if in the future people will, not unlike with Elvis, have Danzig sightings.
Avatar 8:05am
HarktheUmpire:

"Grobschnitt"?!
That name is just perfect.
Avatar 8:08am
Dave Bombay:

@J Patlen - I bet it will happen. I have Joey Ramone sightings from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Guido from Cologne:

Grobschnitt: legendary prog rock band.
Maybe you know EROC, long time their drummer, to day highly regarded producer and mastering engineer.
Most people did not know the name came from Film editing.

Just tried listening to some Grobschnitt. noodle noodle noodle, going absolutely nowhere. ugh...
Music scholars are idiots.

Avatar 8:24am
HarktheUmpire:

Some German music scholars who apparently decided that wanky prog rock were to be taken seriously and bands like Faust and Neu were a joke.

I don't actually know those scholars. But I feel a tremendous amount of disdain and scorn amassing in my tummy.

Give me some targets Guido!

Avatar 8:27am
bibi:

@hark, i have personnally the same problem with prog, but we must assume people dont always look at the thing while listening to music. for some people, the aim is the technicity of it, the virtuosity, for others (like us i presume) the aim is somewhere else.
@fred, thx ill check this out !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Sem Chumbo:

@Dave: please tell us you are not drinking this:www.toxel.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Guido from Cologne:

The virtuosity-obsession was a typical 70ies desease. Then came Punk and one generation of music scholars were taken over by the next generation. Anywway the next generation was better informed, but also often enough putting sh**. I must be very carful to give any names.
Avatar 8:36am
HarktheUmpire:

@bibi: those people... I guess you're right and I'll just have to accept that they're out there. The world is a scary place. I'll just try and stay away from them.
