Hull City lost to Arsenal this weekend - oddly this result actually sorta enhances the chances that Hull City will make the Europa League.

Arsenal plays Hull City (go Tigers!) for the FA Cup on 5/17. The winner gets a spot in the Europa League (the 2nd-tier European contest to the Champions League). However, if Arsenal finishes high enough in the Premier League, they'll get a Champions League spot and Hull City would get the Europa League spot even if they lose the FA Cup Final.

Sorry I am from New Jersey. When they got sold they took every possible New Jersey reference away from this team as fast as possible. 7 years of a team in lame duck status - that's even longer than the Expos I think.

All cover for a guy's real estate project pulling on heartstrings for a team who's fanbase has mostly shuffled off this mortal coil 50+ years ago in another sport.

I am free agent as an NBA fan - if the Raptors didn't have the goofy logo they'd be a stronger candidate.

I'll take that suggestion Danne -- though, not when ordering Montreal bagels or smoked meat..
Avatar 6:37pm
Danne D:

For Bronwyn this should clear this up:

The Utah Jazz used to be the New Orleans Jazz
The Jazz were eventually replaced by the Hornets who moved from Charlotte - recently the Hornets changed their name to the Pelicans.
The Bobcats eventually were started as an expansion team to replace the Hornets in Charlotte. Since the Hornets name is now available, the Bobcats will change their name to the Hornets next season.

None of this has anything to do with the Tennesee Titans.
Avatar 6:37pm
northguineahills:

Well, next season, the Bobcats will be renamed the Hornets.

Michael Jordan owns the Bobcats, right? I can't root for them then.

Avatar 6:43pm

Danne D, adopt the Golden State Warriors. They kick the Lakers'asses every time they play. That should be incentive enough.
Avatar 6:43pm
Danne D:

Now the Sacramento Kings - that's a different case - they nearly moved to Seattle to presumably become the new Sonics (or SuperSonics) but then the NBA didn't approve the move. Previously they were the Kansas City Kings and for a brief time they actually were divided between Kansas City and Omaha (as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings). Before that they were the Cincinnati Royals (with Oscar Robertson) and I guess when they moved to Kansas City using the Royals name was frowned upon by the baseball team of the same name. Before they were in Cincinnati, they were the Rochester Royals which was a name change from Rochester Pros which in turn was a name change from the Rochester Eber Seagrams and originally the Rochester Seagrams. Believe it or not the organization that is now the Sacramento Kings was founded in 1923(!)
Avatar 6:44pm
Danne D:

@Carmichael the problem with adopting the Warriors is they are moving to San Francisco and abandoning an adoring fan base in hardscrabble Oakland. Can't do it.

I was bugged when the Denver Rockets changed their name to Nuggets after the Houston Rockets got started, but I gotta admit Nuggets was a better name.

Remember the Toronto Northmen? Before the season started they became the Memphis Southmen, but the locals preferred the name Grizzlies.

Then there were the Baltimore CFL Colts, who were obliged to call themselves officially the Stallions.
