I used to cram for exams to Popol Vuh all the time. Great music, but brings back horrible memories!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Lewis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Scott Williams:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Davis:

the stream has stopped, is my computer broken? maybe it is, i'll get the hammer
Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

mama get the hammer, the fly's on the baby's head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm steve:

stream's fine over here Davis.
Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

this is hilarous. This is the drum pattern to every Sepultura song ever, seems like.
Avatar 3:58pm northguineahills:

Brazilian kids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Davis:

i'll reboot with a ball peen
Avatar 3:58pm Cecile:

this could also be called "soulfly"
Avatar 3:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

In my collection, at least, 1971 keeps coming up all over the place, just seems like the most magical time...

..& 128 stream working fine here.
Avatar 3:59pm Cecile:

I think 1981 or 1976 are kind of magical, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm steve:

if i could pick one decade, it'd be the 70s
Avatar 4:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

For me, 1981 definitely had the mojo as well (sky records, berlin electronic stuff)
Avatar 4:05pm Cecile:

1984 was a pretty strong year across the board, too.
Avatar 4:06pm Chris from DC:

Also some of the best postpunk stuff like the Comsat Angels and the Sound in 1981.
Avatar 4:07pm Cecile:

hardcore had a lot of its best stuff come out in 81
Avatar 4:08pm Cecile:

'88 was stupendous for hip-hop IMO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm fleep:

Is there a bad year for music? I need to know what to avoid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Fred Vom Jupiter! YES!!!
Hi Scott and all Scotians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Parq:

What Matt said, re Fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: There isn't really a bad year for music, though some years (such as 1990) come up noticeably "thin" on good music.
Avatar 4:11pm Cecile:

1985 was kind of a let down year in some ways. I dunno, I hated a lot of stuff in the 90s - I mostly listened to free jazz and GBV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Parq!

@Cecile: Free jazz? Doesn't that contain a lot of...you know, guitar "noodlin"???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Matt from Springfield:

Icelandic? Whatever this is is good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DCE:

it's only "noodlin" if you don't like it, Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm steve:

this is from 71 too. 71. great year. just listen to this guy. case closed.
Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

no, not really. I tend to like classic jazz instruments playing crazy-ass shit.
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

Feo means ugly in Spanish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Parq:

I really felt that 1977-82 spoke to me in a way that no other time had before or has since. Just one guy's opinion.
Avatar 4:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

FEO is god-damned amazing.
  4:15pm rasmus:

it's danish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Then I guess that explains Fabio's and other's hostility to "noodlin" around here :)
@Cecile: Ah, that's "hardcore" jazz--nice!
Avatar 4:15pm Cecile:

Yeah, Parq, I tend to agree with you. Also
Avatar 4:15pm dc pat:

I'll take all the years, even '85.

Bedstemer is my new favorite song.
Avatar 4:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm common:

Avatar 4:17pm dc pat:

SST years always make my soul warm and squirmy....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm fleep:

@MattfS Based on this metric, you're right about 1990 en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 4:18pm dc pat:

no wait, THIS is my new favorite song!
  4:18pm r i s k y:

SO GOOOD! Love it Scott!
  4:19pm Sandy in Houston:

Sudden Infant always wins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Parq:

1895 was the year I got married. Can't beat that. I remember driving on our honeymoon listening to "Tarzan Boy" and "Running Up That Hill."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Heh, a lot of those ended up on Nat Roe's Reverse A/C Chartsweep premium!

There's always something great coming out: The La's only album came out in '90, and I like The Church's Gold Afternoon Fix, but for the most part that year was quite "thin"!
Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

hey BBV and Mellow Man Ace were the jams in 90. BUt there was also a lot of crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm fleep:

1895 wow you old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, comin' up close on 120, Parq! What do you give for the Double-Triple-Diamond Anniversary? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Parq:

What's really sad is, I carefully corrected about five other typos in that before posting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm steve:

wait... is the "Mother" song Ken plays all the time now (low monotone voice... "Mother, don't tell me to clean up my room") also SF??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Matt from Springfield:

"MBV", yes that was '90, and on the 4AD front there was His Name Is Alive and Cocteau Twins Heaven Or Las Vegas. I got at least one hand's worth of good releases!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Matt from Springfield:

ha, Parq :)
Prob because the mind reads the first and last letter/character in a string first of all, and since you got the 1 and 5 right, might not have noticed the switcheroo in the middle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm steve:

doh, i mean, SI... Sudden Infant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm davex:

I wanna bamba in America?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Matt from Springfield:

I get all of my Latin rock interpretations from Reader's Digest instro albums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 4:34pm PKNY:

If I could go back in time to see one band, it would be the OG Funkadelic lineup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Matt from Springfield:

A needed update for anyone who covers that song, Cecile!
Avatar 4:38pm Cecile:

I was as impressed as hell by that Fabio LAFMS show the other week.
  4:39pm Clay:

Just read the news ... Jerry Vale died. Sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm common:

bummer, clay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Matt from Springfield:

When you're hot you're hot, and when you're gone...you're not.
We've all got a long way to go in life, but a short while to get there.
  4:45pm Clay:

Avatar 4:46pm Cecile:

that is sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm chris:

I loved that show, too, Cecile. Surely one for Fabio's greatest hits 12Gb box set.
  4:48pm P-90:

RIP Jerry V.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm chris:

Now we're really in the holy land! Father Yod!
  4:48pm Clay:

always remember ...
Avatar 4:50pm Cecile:

no, but you're going to tell me, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm chris:

our loss re: Vale... i can only hope to live to 83 with my loving family and wife of 55 years. may we all be as blessed as he!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm chris:

"Everything that you were, you are now and will be." Amen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Moe: I say, Jasper, what comes after 75?
Larry: 76!
Moe: That's the Spirit!
  4:53pm KP:

This is very excellent
  4:56pm KP:

I had to pull over to say that. Felt it was important
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Scott Williams:

thanks for pulling over, KP!
Avatar 5:03pm Chris from DC:

Really liking this new Amen Dunes stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Scott Williams:

yeah, it's great! check the live set he did on Thomas's Dangerous for the Brain show last weekend: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:05pm Chris from DC:

That was what tipped me off to his new record and all. Great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Matt from Springfield:

CHARTSWEEP!!! WoooooooHooooo!
  5:09pm P-90:

We can haz ChartSweep? Yummee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Andy Breckman:

Finally, they play some half-decent stuff on this dirty hippie station!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm davex:

This is stirring subconscious and semiconscious memories for me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Mike East:

my buddy Jeremiah just walked through my office and heard the "joy to the world" intro and said "Fuck this song." That just cracked me up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Mike East:

nobody wants to be called a bullfrog
Avatar 5:10pm Cecile:

yah! Jerry Reed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Unfortunately I believe "Green-Eyed Lady" is '70, and their '71 follow-up prob didn't make the charts. I wants their rock organ solo!!
Avatar 5:11pm V Priceless:

waiting for "I'm Eighteen"!
Avatar 5:12pm Sem Chumbo:

God, I was locked in an AM TOP 40 station writing copy in 1971, with no way to turn off the monitor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm davex:

The final Mad Men episode will end with one of these songs as the outro.
  5:12pm P-90:

Croce > Cher
  5:13pm P-90:

and Cher returned!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Davis:

computer wont stream anything. everything is broken, listening to Agnetha now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm listener james from westwood:

The Tom Jones was on the "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" soundtrack, and there are indeed some digworthy cuts on that sweep. And then there are some that remind you why Thompson and his attorney kept "Sympathy for the Devil" on a constant loop while driving from LA to Vegas....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Davis:

the music seems to have been created by demented baboons, but i am in the presence of a goddess
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Matt from Springfield:

All The Crap That's Fit To Rap, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Davis:

actually the baboons are ok on this one, except for the hammond organ licks
Avatar 5:20pm Cecile:

here is the soundtrack music for the bittersweet post-coital movie scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Parq:

I am reviving my dormant autobiography project and renaming it "The Music Seems to Have Been Created by Demented Baboons".
Avatar 5:23pm V Priceless:

wow - I love that bass guitar sound - gotta be a Fender Jazz bass, I'm guessing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Davis:

excellent Parq sir
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Davis:

Scott, according to my friend Graham 1987 was the only year without a Fall album, so maybe thats the shittest of all
Avatar 5:30pm Cecile:

what other group was K Leimer involved in?
Avatar 5:33pm Cecile:

Savant, I looked it up. They were a favorite of Special Ed at WCBN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Scott Williams:

K. Leimer's been on a lotta comps (my fave being that double cassette comp from 1987 called "Film Noir American Style"), but I don't know what bands he played with
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Davis:

so anyway i gently tapped wmp with a rubber mallet, cracked open pls with wmp on the head with the ball peen, tore out the sound card with the claw hammer, smashed the silly virgin superhub to pieces with the lump hammer and obliterated the processor with a sledge hammer...... still isnt streaming at all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Parq:

Davis, I see that, in addition to a shared sense of destiny, we also have repair styles in common. I can't understand what the problem is, when it worked so well for my roller-skates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Davis:

generally i find when theres machinery malfunction, a hammer's your man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Davis:

not on this occasion though- i cant understand why
Avatar 5:48pm Cecile:

sounds like the shopping list for this album.
Avatar 5:54pm northguineahills:

Thanks Scott. It was a groovy time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Matt from Springfield:

Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Ralphine:

I think that Badfinger song came out in 1972. I was in 6th grade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Scott Williams:

Fair nuff, @Ralphine - but it was recorded in early '71, so i gave it a pass. this ain't zackt science here!
