Hey there Gary and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm
Gary:

Heya, Bob!
  6:59pm
Jill B.:

Hi Gary and NDBob! Gary, received the postcard about the WFMU music fair. Is that your art work????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm
Gary:

Hi Mom! No, I'm not sure who did that -- will have to find it and see

Most of the obscurameter stuff I looked up I got an obscure rating of 0%, but it should have been null set, as they had no record of any of the artists I looked up (I did that on purpose).

why is a raven like a writing desk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Gary:

NGH + Hyde! Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Gary:

I was surprised by the things I assumed would be 90% or greater, but weren't.
Avatar 7:07pm
northguineahills:

...and I also second Gary's belief it's queries LastFM's database.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
davex:

Great track to start, actually. Quite an interesting sound.
  7:07pm
Jill B.:

Okay, Hyde, what is he answer, as I have no clue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
davex:

Yes, it definitely goes through Last.fm. But it still gives a general sense of what people listen to (and a lot of people "scrobble" their own music through the site). Of course it's all just for fun.
Avatar 7:11pm
hyde:

@Jill B I don't know! the Mad Hatter asks this riddle during the tea party in Alice in Wonderland, but he never gives the darn answer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Gary:

@Hyde: How about: Poe wrote on both
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Gary:

I almost used Alice in Wonderland imagery for this show, actually, Hyde (think: rabbit hole)
  7:14pm
Jill B.:

Hyde.....Well, let's just make up an answer then!
Avatar 7:14pm
hyde:

@Gary yes. I also think Lewis Carroll finally came up with some slightly lame answer because people bugged him about it for so long....
Avatar 7:17pm
hyde:

only one of the 7 bands I was in even comes up in the obscurometer, and i think that's because they've kept going for like 15 years after i stopped playing with them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm

100%: Jackpot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm

What were the bands, Hyde?

Simon! Booty's shakin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm

And my head is achin'.
Avatar 7:29pm
hyde:

@Gary I think I miscounted--there was 8. they were: The Household Appliances, The Insane Assholes, Chore Wheel, The Half Worcesters, The Corn Lords, Triple Thick, Rodentt and Jumbo. There's really only tapes of everything except Rodentt, the bad lounge band I was in, we had a 45. (except Triple Thick, who still play). Jumbo was my 40+ piece circus music project. I have .wav files of our tapes somewhere that I guess someday I should convert to .mp3...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Gary:

You should definitely convert them. I'd love to hear some of this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
pacific standard simon:

If the writing desk is the old roll-top type, I suppose the similarity could be that they're both corvid.
Avatar 7:35pm
ndbob:

this is great Gary - the Mimi Sisters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
pacific standard simon:

Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
davex:

That was one warped answer, Simon. (But ingeniously warped.)
Avatar 7:37pm
hyde:

@Gary careful what you wish for! there was actually a Jumbo 45 too, and it looks like one of the many, many members of the band uploaded it to.....myspace? myspace.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Gary:

I should also say that a certain amount of today's stuff came to me via Carol -- she sent me a few discs a few weeks back ... in fact, this song and the song before it I think were among the treasures she sent along
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm

i loved that Aris San awhile back. reading about him, his life sounds kind of crazy! now I want to see that movie about him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
Gary:

Yes! We definitely all gotta track down that movie, it sounds awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Gary:

I"ve played Josie Ho before. I'm shocked at her obscurity level. She's a very popular movie star / producer / singer in Hong Kong. I even typed in her name in Chinese and still got an above 90% obscurity rating for her.
  7:53pm
juan-gotama:

LOL, this is Josie Ho 何超儀, daughter of Stanley Ho Hung Sun, "The King of Gambling" of Macau.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Gary:

You are correct, Juan-Gotama! I super-heart this woman -- I have three or four of her albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Gary:

Pappy's the richest man in Macau, if I'm not mistaken
  7:55pm
juan-gotama:

This is not obscure at all for any cantonese speaker growing up in the '90s. The obscurity level is due to the fact that Chinese music listeners use last.fm less frequently I think.
Avatar 7:55pm
hyde:

looks like someone uploaded that Aris San flick to youtube, but there's no english subs. from the way it opens it sure looks like it's probably worth watching even if it's greek to me: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
pacific standard simon:

Behind her back, her friends call her a ho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm

Yeah although slightly less powerful as he used to be, pappy still a tycoon in Macau no doubt!

ndbob:

excellent first hour Gary! Catch the rest on the archive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
Gary:

True, Juan -- for instance, I was thinking of playing Naseebo Lal, the single most popular singer in Pakistan right now -- she had an obscurity rating of 93.8%
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm

Have a great night, Bob!

I'm too scared to look around on the internet right now Hyde, for fear I'll step onto a page that has an automatic video or sound file, or I'd help with the research
Avatar 8:58pm

I've found some hypothesizing that he was the kid of some Turkish psych guy or something, but I don't know if that's at all accurate. i also found him doing a cover of the Doors' "Mosquito", which is cuh-razy. it seems to be early seventies stuff, near as I can tell.
