The program formerly known as Dinner at Andy's, The Fuzzy Glove Hour, Whores, and The Happiness Hut. Ken and Andy, also known as The Enema Boys, further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards on a weekly basis. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw. (Visit homepage.)

Is Shazam an elephant? Or that midget that danced to Clam Caravan on the live Spinal Tap dvd?

this show is already a success, if the past 2 minutes are the best part

Very appropriate to have a Shazam theme the week after Jim Nabors sang at his last Indy 500.

Info from the newsletter:

"Can You Identify a Song Faster Than Shazam Can?

Tonight, it's yet another installment of our never-ending series, Andy Breckman Discovers the Internet. This eveing it is episode 421: John Henry versus the Shazam Engine.

Or as Andy prefers to refer to it, ShazamaramaBingBangaRooaRama.

Ken and Andy will take one caller at a time to see if they can identify a song faster than the song recognition app Shazam. To keep it fair, we wont be choosing super obscure songs. In fact, we will let you choose the overall musical genre you know best. For every listener who beats Shazam, Andy will give $20 to his favorite charity which, these days, is Mothers Against Masturbatoriums, but that could change."

Is the 7 second delay going to ruin this again?
Avatar 6:19pm

Speaking of cool music apps, try TouchTunes. Most of the juke boxes in your town use the service, and you can control them via the app. There's nothing better than sitting around playing with your cell phone while people feed money into the juke. You can jump their selection and play something off the wall. Watch 'em go crazy.

2/3rds of the time I use Shazam, it gets no result. When it does get a result, it takes a good 20 seconds at least. (of course, I usually use it when WFMU djs are are taking their sweet ass time on updating the playlist).

I'll take Gay Bar Music for $500, Alex.

@ Danne: Wait, Whaaaat?
Has Jim Nabors been banned from singing at any more Indy 500s?
Avatar 6:26pm
Danne D:

@Carmichael lol - if Andy were buying the free records then I would think it wasn't probably rigged ;)
Avatar 6:28pm
Foolbert:

Any word with the suffix '-ed' can be pronounced using '-èd' in order to maintain the metre of a poem or of a line of dialogue, especially if it were written long ago enough that this was the way it were pronounced, as well as in order to be pretentious. The pronunciation 'wingèd', beside being familiar to us from the show, might also be relatively common from a proper recitation of Marvell's 'To His Coy Mistress', which has the well-known couplet
'But at my back I always hear
Time's wingèd chariot hurrying near'.

More usually, though, if you're not trying to be a jerk or to make a point, it isn't pronounced as 'cagèd', and Maya Angelou didn't pronounce it that way.

Oh, and

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,
When he beats his bars and would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings –
I know why the caged bird sings.
---Paul Laurence Dunbar

@Marcel that's great :) enjoy volunteering hope to see you there

@P-90 Jim Nabors his retiring from the gig - he's had some health issues in recent years.

(as yet I am not volunteering, but I may offer to if there still is a need and I think I can swing it). Would be volunteers should check in with Scott@wfmu.org as I do think they still need folks!

  6:30pm
Allison T.:

KEN IS WRONG.

There is at least one instance in which the pronunciation of "caged" should be "cage-ed"! In THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, there is a speech made by a Lord in which he says: "And twenty caged nightingales do sing..." In order to have the proper iambic pentameter scansion, you need to pronounce it "cage-ED". Go ahead and give it a whirl.

(Also, I'm a female record collector... see y'all at the record fair!)

Pro-tip: If Andy suggests you are on his side, you should quickly clarify that you are on Ken's side. Not being on Ken's side usually gets you hung up on :)
