Maybe one of things which worked is that the dynamic of choosing the movie was playing against gender stereotypes: I really wasn't at all interested in sitting through it, kind of preciously turned up my nose, thought it was the kind of crudeness I just didn't need. Kathryn rented it anyway, because she thought it'd be fun.
And we both laughed our asses off, in between cringes.

I've long enjoyed the work of those Trey 'n' Matt kids, AND I used to love the Supermarionation shows like Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet as a kid...
But the puppet sex scene TOTALLY creeped Kath out.
Understandably, it was pretty terrible on purpose. But she kept having flashbacks of it surprisingly long.
