As for Metal Machine Music you play it for people when you want them to have no choice e.g. its that or the Eurovision Song Contest and it is 6ft deep snow outside! Or you could play the Zeitkratzer 'classical' version which hurts....just differently.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am

And recent gigs to pick that theme up again - Swans excellent!! A shorter set but better for it! Neutral Milk Hotel - very disappointing! It had its moments but was based on the premise that if you have comedy beards, a musical saw and.....well you know where I'm going with this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12am

Yes Brian - you must have written that, perhaps in the Motel Yorbafornia

Good to hear from you Chrissy. Apparently lotsa buzz surrounding the entire DVA CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am
Brian in UK:

Love this drum sound, reminds me of Sly Dunbar.

Hey Chrissy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am
Fran:

Magic Band - still wonderful to see live but they are almost at the point of touring the UK too much - I make it 3 times in the last year I've seen them. As for NMH - the problem with the hall was that I was in it with them and 1500 others of which 1400 wanted a few singalongs! I agree - I saw NMH back in the 90's in a small room and without the festival singalong approach and it was magical. And you can still see A Hawk and a Hacksaw/other offshoots doing a magical set in a room of 150!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22am

Fran, I missed A Hawk etc last time they were over but they have done the soundtrack to this film live I believe. Not on this link though.

I formally experienced Swans with Hawk & a Hacksaw as openers. Yeah, the crowd element of the NMH show was off putting too.
Why the Magic Band doesn't tour the states I'll never know. Seems Europe are currently their cash cow - I'm sure they'd prefer to play and make some dough than repeat the BS of days gone by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am
Fran:

Thanks Brian - went to a show where they played live to that film in an old Art Deco cinema in Leeds - wonderful

@Fran - I also saw NMH last week and at times it felt like watching a community sing-a-long novelty act.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am
Brian in UK:

Would have loved to see that, Fran. What a start to a film.

I saw Jason Isbell the other week and even there the right arm was going up in the air for some choruses. When he plays acoustic, his favourite line is 'if you are waiting for the happy songs, you better go now'.

Oh yes Brian - the 'tache is a Movember award winner for sure and may even get a Peter Wyngarde award of merit - who if I remember rightly in 'tache terms was once referred to as 'that highly polyesterised porno-tached fopp' - best description ever!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36am

Brian - that seems to be a standard line for 'Americana' artists talking to audiences now - either 'here's another about death' or variations on the theme

Yes Bill - Rape and also at the other end of the scale Neville Thumbcatch and Hippie and the Skinhead - truly a lyricist of epic proportions. But the lp cover is a treat in fopp fashioning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39am
Brian in UK:

I know Fran, Mary Gauthier is similar but it does not diminish the power of the song. Isbell's Elephant or Yvette are powerful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am
Brian in UK:

Hey you have the same trouble with your leiderhosen as I do.

Hey DJBMac ,,GOOD SHOW and sorry guys for this on the comment board. I was thinking the other day about an adult swim cartoon called"Squidbillies", The episode was titled "The Fine Ole Solution" It had to with genocide against humans by Early the dad squid. I kept thinking of that title and i thought that is exactly what THE USGOV. has been doing since Reagan/Bush took office. A final solution on a grand scale! Conspiracy theory does not fit in this at all ,,it is what it is! Only this time they are not wiping us as fast azay can. They are killing us slowly by destroying our environment around us with GEOENGINEERING/ chemtrail spray/HAARP weapons located round the globe in agreement with all the allied countries. NO RAIN ,NO CROPS,NO BEES eventually just freezing dry weather ,,10 TO 20million TONS OF ALUMINUM OXIDE ALONG WITH OTHER DEADLY COMBOS sprayed on a timely schedule. A plan to reduce worldwide poulation to approx.500,000,000 or whats left of us to serve the new master race. THE FINAL SOLUTION ON A LARGER SCALE. Stanley - I could go on but currently I'm enjoying Casper Brotzmann, Tashi Dorji, Fred Frith, Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt, Keiji Heino, Marc Ribot, Loren Connors, Jon Collin, Noel Akchote - some old and some new, some easy to get and some more obscure but lots on the Free Music Archive!

Brian in UK:

Hey you have the same trouble with your tunic as I do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39am
Stanley:

Fran - yes, the FMA is fertile ground. Agree with the Keiji Heino and Casper Brotzmann. Thanks for the suggestions. Looking forward to checking these out.

@Jay/London no just my first time commenting... This app seems to be improving. If only it would pick up from where you left off. If you're listening to archive shows and pause them for any length of time or switch Apps it starts the show again from the beginning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am
Fran:

Ha! Adios Brian!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am
Stanley:

Sayonara Brian.
See you later.

Bill Mac:

See ya Bri, good to see you all today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am
Fran:

The most annoying thing with the app (or possibly my iphone skills) is that very soon the end of the comments board is well out of sight!!
Avatar 5:45am
Jay/London:

@ Leo you can just move the player on to where you left of just take a note of the time on the bar so you can go to where you left off

I'm surprised there's enough real estate on the screen for everything to fit

@Jay yes that works, the clickable playlist helps too.. Would be nice it remembered though... But I guess you just can't have it all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am
Stanley:

Fran - reread your comment. I've just discovered Tashi Dorji, too. A Tibetan axe man?

Leo from London:

My screen has about enough room for four comments... If you want more you have to scroll..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am

Haha, the ol' Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Nice move, Bill.
