Hi davex! Hi ndbob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm davex:

Congratulations, Doug and daughter of Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

If the vocal cords at left synchronize at any time with the singer on air, everyone gets a prize!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Gary:

Okay, am avoiding the obvious joke, and am just going to sit down and shut up.
Avatar 6:06pm ndbob:

Congrats Doug and Lincoln.. and hello Dave and Gary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Better than shutting down and sitting up Gary.

Yes, we are all very proud of Lincoln. She was accepted into the 2nd best youth orchestra in the city. For, as she describes it, the non-prodigies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

WARNING: All prepare to be Gigli'd.
Avatar 6:10pm ndbob:

ah I've heard Gigli before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Doug Schulkind:

The Gigli performance I am about to play used to be the opening theme to my WFMU colleague Kenny G's show.
Avatar 6:11pm Carmichael:

I'm getting all giggly watching the pic. Hi Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Gary:

Congrats to Lincoln!
Avatar 6:12pm ndbob:

I've got the pic covered up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Parq:

Well. *you* can just rock me to sleep tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Carmichael and Parq!
Avatar 6:15pm ndbob:

This is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Gary:

Beautiful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

Ms. Callas was romantically attached, for a brief period, with the performer who shall close this sequence: GiuseppeDi Stefano.
Avatar 6:23pm hyde:

welcome to my shop. let me cut your mop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Maria Callas could cut your hair with her stare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Opera is punk rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

We have the Nazis to thank for Elisabeth Schwartzkopf. I explain presently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Jussi is not the only Swedish tenor we shall hear this evening. Any guesses who there other will be?
  6:33pm Dean:

I'm like a broken record, and I really love these so-called "bleeding chunks" of opera's greatest hits, but if you're going to play opera you must play Wolfgang Mitterer's Massacre. You won't find Bjorling singing it, though.

Can't guess the second Swedish tenor. But I hope you manage to slip Fritz Wunderlich into the set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

OK, everyone, follow along at home: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 6:33pm northguineahills:

Wait, Kenny G used the theme song for the movie starring J-Lo and Ben Affleck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Doug Schulkind:

@Dean
Ol' Fritz almost made the cut. It's hard to squeeze all this into one hour. I would like to pepper my regular Friday show with more opera. Used to do it years ago, but I ran out of material. (My collection is slim.) But now with Youtube and downloading, I should be able to get virtually anything... Stay tuned.

Howdy, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm davex:

Thanks, Doug, it does help to be able to read along...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

My pleasure, davex!
Avatar 6:38pm northguineahills:

Even taking out of context, my former statement wouldn't be out of place on Mr. Goldsmith's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Uncle Michael:

Must. Scroll. Quickly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Doug Schulkind:

No, no it wouldn't, northguineahills!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Doug Schulkind:

That was Richard Tucker singing there with Ms. Price.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Uncle Michael:

I have a lifelong fear of larynx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Ms. Moffo was born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, but later had her own show on Italian television.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Our second Swede: Nicolai Gedda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Continuing the line of succession, Gedda was once an understudy to Giuseppe Di Stefano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Next and last, "The Voice of an Angel."
Avatar 6:53pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for indulging me, everyone. I'm sure many of you know way more about this music than I. I wish I had more of it in my life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Uncle Michael:

I just know that I've evidently grown up enough to enjoy it. Thanks for playing it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm davex:

Thank you, Doug. Those were some great recordings.
Avatar 6:57pm Jesse K:

let it run!
Avatar 6:58pm northguineahills:

Bravissimo, Doug!
Avatar 6:58pm hyde:

thanks for the opera lesson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Doug Schulkind:

That was a blast furnace of tonsil fun! Thanks!
Avatar 🥁 5:52pm bobdc:

Great show, great idea, and worth doing again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Doug Schulkind:

@bobdc
You got it! But I promise, no more larynx-cam animated images.
