A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Germans, yes. But watching Netherlands and of course Brazil.

There was a 70s sitcom called The Liver Birds about two women form Merseyside and that was definitely pronounced "lie". So who knows?

Believe it or not, the recent TV serial "Lost" was based in part on "The Life and Loves of a She-Devil".

Avatar 10:53am
d¢ pät:

I gotta tell ya, I was lost in Rhode Island once and stopped at a fire station to ask for directions. I couldn't understand one thing that guy said.
  10:55am
Robert:

"Lost" contained various clues to its She-Devil cx in the form of references to hunter vs. fisher, and a character with a couple of moles on her face. It's all part of the theme in the hidden plot of "Lost" of persons imitating & usurping other persons' identities, as per "She-Devil", "Seconds", and Flitcraft. There were clues all over the place.
Avatar 10:56am
duke:

When I started working in RI, I was told that if you are driving for more than 45 minutes in RI, you're lost.
  10:57am
Robert:

It also helped that David Lindelof (the father of "Lost" co-creator Damon) sat us down one night and showed us the entirety of the TV serial adaptation of Weldon's novel, plus the Roseanne Barr movie.

The Smithsonian Natural History museum also has a big pollinator thingy going on.
  11:09am
Robert:

"Lost" even had its character corresponding to Fisher live in a big foot at the edge of the sea, and it was implied that the foot had once been part of a high tower.
