"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

HarktheUmpire:

Good morning John!

@Frederic: My parents are on holiday in Bretagne. If you see a Dutch couple in their 50s with a caravan and a golden retriever, say hi! There must be a ton of those about though.

Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, John, and hello GOT, Frederic and Hark. Lovin' these sounds.

Guido from Cologne:

Hi John!

The JOHN FAHEY episode last week was great .... content wise ... it made me even order the biography (about which i was sceptical fist, heaving read so much).

But from the oint of sound-balance it was horrible.
I had to change the volume all the time.
Not to talk about the switched off mike for the interview partner in the beginning.
Wasn't any technical support available?

John Allen:

hi Guido. we pre-recorded that show, only in hindsight did we realize that the volume levels were off at the beginning. note to everyone who intends to listen to that special, do what Guido did and change the volume all the time. - JA

A LOT! What's the name of this Fahey tune? I don't think I ever stumbled upon this album and it sounds brilliant. like the middle eastern vibes

Good Morning John Allen.
Saw Bill Orcutt at Issue Project Room a few weeks ago, was so amazing!

Guido from Cologne:

Coming oup to my mind about laer recordings. I rarely read about how John fahey recycled older ideas. There are quete a few versions of "Wine and Roses" under various song titles ("such that with the "Disco Void"). And that " melody mcbad" seems also to be a rework.

John Allen:

steve didn;t want to go into analiziing Fahey's recordings in telling his story , but yeah Fahey would often tweak a theme

the Tucker Zimmerman version is beautiful. I've first heard this song sang by British folkman Wizz Jones, such a beautiful version.

Thought this was Jim Dickinson doing Stagger Lee. Turned out to be Mike Deasy. Great stuff, either way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am
AndrewC.:

I always go for Nick Cave's filthy version of Stagger Lee.

This is nicely overblown though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am

Been great again this morning, John. Thx!
