Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Doug Schulkind:

Yes Philo G! Herzog has used Reijseger's music in quite a few of his films. An absolutely sublime collaboration!
Avatar 10:29am Philo Gristle:

Fittingly ancient sounds. Then again Werner has always had a great taste in music.

Philo, if you're into Ernst stuff, check out Clusone Trio (with Han Bennink & Michael Moore). They're amazing!

Andrew Cyrille ~ drums

Fitting for the holiday, the proofs I'm reading are of an American history college textbook. The chapters I have in house only go up to 1730, however, so no deep "Schoolhouse Rock" territory just yet; just a lot of depressing conquest and exploitation thus far.
Avatar 10:38am hyde:

@Doug whoa. that's a lineup!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

@duke
Funny you should ask. Grachan Moncur (I) was a very well respected bass player. Played in numerous bands, most notably the Savoy Sultans.

Most of the expat African-American musicians who recorded for BYG/Actuel regard the label owners as vile gangsters who ripped them off completely. If there is a documentary made, it will be rated NC-17 for the language and quite possibly the violence.

Good lord, never heard of him, but wow

We really loved our days in your area. Want to get back there since so much we didn't get to.

Two things:

(1) Don't forget to stay tuned for Uncle Michael's Hinky Dinky Time broadcast, up next here on the Drummer Stream. It's gonna be a good'n: wfmu.org...

(2) The soul set closing today's show is gonna knock your socks off, wash 'em, fold 'em, and put 'em back on.

Avatar 11:30am Philo Gristle:

@Doug Damn. First time ever I wish I wasn't barefootin'
Avatar 11:33am kat330:

@annie:! You got it! Couldn't make vacation plans this summer because I got a 3-mo. long jury summons (to be on call at least). Even got my passport renewed in April so the globe's our limit (well, actually, our budget's our limit). Saw a really nice area near Cookeville, TN -- only a 4-hour drive away -- and might take a long weekend before October.

NC Outer Banks bound on Sun. NC12 currently closed, but damage looks minimal. DOT hopes to re-open it later today or tomorrow. Vacation reprieve soon, please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
I think so. I can't remember if that was the source. The old Google Reader was terrific at searching already visited pages.

Whoaaa, Mack attack!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:40am listener james from westwood:

Shame about the on-call status; hope there's some room for a vacation after that. I haven't been called since March 2000. I vote consistently, so I'm somewhat surprised I haven't been.
  11:40am marcury:

Hola, late but checking out The Preacher!
Avatar 11:40am kat330:

Don't have on any socks to knock off, but this sure has my toes a-tappin'!

Happy B'day to the Linc!
Avatar 11:42am annie:

well, kat, you'd be welcome at my place if you choose to come
Avatar 11:44am kat330:

@james: This is my second time since 2011! That time never even had to appear (it's a call every weekend to see if you're needed) and imagine much the same this time. However, JT MUST use his vacation days by the 3rd week of Sept., so not a lot of time.
Avatar 11:46am kat330:

@annie: :) ☼
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

I'll tell her you said so, marcury!

Top notch soul set Doug!
Avatar 11:50am kat330:

The local Knob Knee-anderthals have it in for us, we're convinced. Philo (oops on the JT) got his FIRST and only traffic ticket ON his very birthday on Tuesday. And it was a traffic trap set up (not for speeding, but at a stop sign).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:51am listener james from westwood:

UM, will be there with sparklers lit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

@GUMBY
Just keepin' my feet on the ground and reachin' for the top notch!

Avatar 11:52am kat330:

Agreed, Gumby! Nice to find a whole lotta soul, esp. when living in a soul-less town. ;)

I forgot to say HEY to you, Webham Henry! And HEY TO YOU, earrie!
Avatar 11:54am annie:

Fine cap to a terrific show, Doug. All the great american genres covered; blues and jazz and soul and folk and, uh, exotica. Happy 4th!
